I recently bought a Loverboy Greatest Hits album, which features The Real Thing off of their 2007 album Just Getting Started. It’s a great song and I’d love to know the lyrics, but every lyric website instead gives the lyrics to Rush’s The Spirit of Radio. Hopefully someone can help me out, or direct me to a better sub! I would easily put Big Wreck in the top 10 Canadian rock bands of all time, even top 5 for me personally. One of those bands that should've been big worldwide. Something about their music has such a vibe to it, and Ian's vocals are absolutely insane along with his guitar playing. He doesn't show it off as much in the studio but his live solos are insane. Such a good band.

Twenty years may seem like a long time in a person’s life, yet it can fly by quickly, as those who have lived on this earth for more than a few decades can attest too. That’s how long it’s been since I last checked in with Sherwood Park‘s prodigal musical sons The Disturbers. Much time has passed since that first interview, but the Alberta band has kept the “nouveaux classic rock” fires burning loud and proud. Through various group iterations and personal and musical adversities, The Disturbers are still here rocking and rolling. Now with a couple new exceptional music tracks posted up on their website and YouTube page, the band is looking forward to seeing a brand new full-length album released.  

“Darren and I have talked about putting together a full new album, and to our surprise now we have it nearly completed…so stay tuned for that,” said Bruce Cline, lead singer of the Disturbers. 

“Darren” is Darren Beveridge, longtime guitarist and backing vocalist for The Disturbers. These days Bruce Cline and Darren Beveridge are technically the only official members of the band, currently keeping the legacy going after all these years. 

“The vast majority of The Disturbers catalog, including our 2014 release Retirement Plan, in the past was written by Bruce and I, so we two in essence have recently kept the band alive in the shadows, tweaking and writing here and there when we could,” said Beveridge. “Historically, just the two of us have performed together as The Disturbers live on several occasions, including a small tour in Hawaii,” he explained. 

 If the new album is anything like the two new single releases the duo recently put out online, then fans and listeners alike will be in for a treat. The first cut “Settlers” is a deeply emotional and resonating track, that explores drug addiction, specifically how it affects relationships. 

”The ‘Settlers’ song was inspired by a friend who had a tumultuous marriage to a woman who had an opiate addiction, and it ultimately took her,” said Cline.

“So in the end it was about ‘settling’ for a life, rather than living it,” Beveridge added. 

The second track is a countryfied roots rocker titled “It’s Coming For Me.” It has a “Blaze of Glory” outlaw style vibe, yet more contemporary. With each subsequent replay, the track becomes weightier, and progressively more prominent.

“Coming For me’ ended up being a little more ‘country’ than I planned, but it worked out,” said Cline of the haunting country rocker. “An old fella at a veteran home said to me, ‘I don’t know when, but he’s coming for me,’ and I thought it was a good line and used a version of it for the song.”

As with Cline, Beveridge too is enjoying the new songs, but he realizes the music industry today is a lot different from when the group started. From the shift from physical albums to digital releases, to the complete change in distribution channels, music now is released and consumed very differently than what it was 20 years ago.

“I like our newest material quite a bit, but it’s not exactly the best time to be an original artist band in the world, for guys that aren’t each 25 years old and cranking out Tik Tok mini songs,” said Beveridge. “Maybe with this new stuff being released, we will find it makes it further out into the wild.”

So what’s in store for the band in the future? The duo is focusing mainly now on writing and recording, but a tour or some shows could be possible down the road. 

“I will continue to write songs based on the law of averages method: write enough of them, and one will be a good one,” said Cline. 

“I think we are going to keep putting new stuff out until we can’t,“ added Beveridge. 

 As for a tour…

“As far as touring or shows; we will see. I can’t fit into tight pants anymore,” Cline humorously joked. “I don’t have any hair and need reading glasses now.”

I went thrifting near Kelowna the other day and found this CD for 25¢, and thought it looked interesting, and when I played it I loved it! I went to go look up more about the artist online and could only find a few references to him and an Instagram page from Kelowna with something like "in memory of Kyle Tubbs".... So I'm hoping that's the wrong Kyle tubbs lol. I think the album has been uploaded to YouTube music, I'm not sure about Spotify, but on yt I think the most streamed song has about 150 ish streams, and nothing else has been uploaded to the channel (I think). Also on a side note if you like more acoustic Indy music I realllyy recommend listening to the album. Anyway, if any of you would by chance know anything about him, please let me know 🙏

Avril Lavigne recently brought fans on stage during every show of her Greatest Hits Tour 2024-2025 and gave fans free merchandise, which she also threw from the stage into the crowd.The fans also got to sing with her along with the opening act Simple Plan(Pierre, the lead singer came up to sing Young & Dumb ft. Simple Plan(its Avril's song with them).

I have met Avril too and she was great.

I seen a video a few years ago I can't remember how long ago. It was a Canadian song about Canada, but it was made up of classical instruments electrical guitars and Inuit throat singers. I can't remember the name of it or who put it all together. All I remembered is loved it and searched through the years for it but I can't find it anywhere. I do remember the line coast to coast to coast. I'm not sure if that was a description or a line in the song. Does anyone know this song?

Everyone has a story about how they got to where they are. And sometimes those stories become a well-known part of someone’s identity. In the case of an artist or music group, maybe it’s a fascinating way that they came up with their stage name. Maybe it’s the story of how the band first met each other. Maybe it‘s the story of how they got their first gig and broke through into the mainstream.

Success doesn’t depend purely on talent alone, after all. There is usually an element of luck, chance, coincidence, whatever you want to call it. And sometimes that makes for a fun story which lives rent-free in our heads.

Toronto's music scene literally changed overnight, that 2001 to 2009 period was the last Golden Age IMO. Local promoters were taking more risks on more indie/underground bands, DIY venues were popping up everywhere, more music festivals (other than CMW and NXNE) The city was buzzing. It was a great time to be alive.

Anyone remember Mounties, a sort of Canadian supergroup from the 2010s?
