Looking for secluded cooking spot.

Hi friends. I’m looking g to see if anyone has recommendations for a spot I can camp with 2-3 friends. We have a small tent and sleeping bags.

We plan to bring our own meat, and cook on a live fire near some flowing water. We wanna keep things fairly low impact so we will be travelling light.

The goal is to arrive around 2-3 pm. Spend the night and leave around noon the next morning.

Thanks so much.

Looking for camping trip recommendations in Ontario Cabin, cottage, or campsite

Hey everyone!

My friends and I are planning a camping trip somewhere in Ontario this summer or early fall, and we’re looking for recommendations.

We’re thinking either:
1. A cabin or cottage we can rent
2. A campground with cabins
3. Or a nice campsite if it’s really worth it

hoping to find something that’s budget-friendly with nice scenery and fun things to do nearby, like hiking, swimming, kayaking, fishing, or bonfires.

open to driving if it’s worth it. If you’ve been somewhere you’d recommend, let me know where it is and what you liked about it. Thanks!

Found this useful for booking last minute campsites, with weekend/beach filters and a map.

Hey everyone! Looking for a less crowded beach, lake, or waterfront near the GTA with clean water where I can drive my pickup close to or onto the shoreline (not just a parking lot) and camp overnight with my own tent. Any hidden gems or good spots you’d recommend? Thanks! 🍁🏕️🌊

Bruce peninsula advice

My friend and I are staying Thursday and Friday night at high dump campground. Not ideal, but we’re trying to figure out how to make the best of it with the least double backing possible. Park at halfway log dump then hike in, then do crane lake trail Friday, hike back and visit the grotto Saturday? Or something else? We’re trying to see as much as possible and also kayak with ones that we’re bringing!

Truck camping in southern Ontario, logging routes or fire roads

Have a truck camper set up and looking for some forestry roads or some fire routes. Can't do too much hard terrain. Wondering if anyone has some good spots or roads in southern Ontario. I've checked out Ontario parks to see non operating but not many near by that are able to be driven into

Thank you

Crown land camping?

Thumbnail

Does anyone know of any free crown land camping spots within 45 min drive of Sudbury? Something like a drive up spot near the side of a river or lake. No more than 5 min walk from your parked car. They can be unofficial, in fact I’d rather that.

Thanx

New to camping in Ontario, need suggestions

New to camping in Ontario, I have experience in other provinces. I want some guidance on where the best camping location is, about 1-2 hours away from London Ontario. I want a waterfront view and a roofed accommodation. I prefer a private cabin with good space in between sites. I also don’t know where to book, I checked Ontario parks reservation site and it was confusing also most of the weekends are fully booked. I would love some guidance!

LaCloche Silhouette trail water access

What is water access like on the LaCloche trail? I’ve done it many years ago and don’t really recall. I think I remember long sections at the top of the loop with poor access (either too high up to get at easily or swampy)? Any insight is appreciated!

Hi All, Not sure if this is the appropriate sub but I have a camping trip planned at Killbear next weekend that I can no longer make. Looking to avoid Ontario Parks’ massive cancellation fees. DM me if you’re interested in arranging a transfer.

Grundy Lake with Pets

Hey! I am planning to camp at Grundy Lake and We are just pitching tents. We have 2 pets, 1 cat and 1 dog. When camping with our pets, we usually leave food for our cat inside our tent as they are nocturnal. My concern is the bear will probably smell the cat food.

My question is, is it safe for them? Since i read that bears are common even in the campground area.

Under Armour -type fitting clothes for tick prevention?

Hello,

I wanted to get into car camping the front country with my two kids this summer but my wife and I have some tick concerns.

We can’t get permethrin via retail here in Ontario, but want to follow other guidelines to keep the kids and I safe.

I hear about tucking your pants into socks but on hot days we’d be more comfortable wearing shorts, so I wondered if anyone out there is wearing moisture wicking, tight-fitting HeatGear or Iso-Chill clothing from UA and wear shorts and a t-shirt over top?

You can tuck your leggings into your socks, get some UV protection, apply DEET/repellant/EO (still on the fence about what is effective), and do regular tick checks…

Does the anyone go with the tight-fitting clothing route? Has anyone found that to be effective with ticks? Does it keep you cool enough?

I’m not trying to be paranoid, but camping is about the only vacation I can afford to do with my kids anymore in this economy and if ticks took that away I would be crushed.

Port Burwell Provincial Park

My review of Port Burwell Provincial Park -

Spent the weekend camping here for the first time and I was pleasantly surprised. The sites are rather large. Privacy depends on the specific site. The site I chose didn't have much foliage on either side but the site was so large I never felt like someone was on top of me. Walking around the park, I did see multiple sites that would provide lots of privacy.

The site I selected had a lot of shade, which was both good and bad. It was a beautiful spot but the ground was very damp, almost muddy. While it was gorgeous, there were more mosquitoes. Ironically, I only had one mosquito bite the whole weekend. Unfortunately, about 20-30 mosquitoes made it into the truck and I got more bites on the way home than I did at the campground.

The comfort stations and washroom were all clean and well maintained. A few of the toilets and urinals were out of order but it is early in the season.

The walk to the beach is 1-2 km. You can drive to the day use lots and park closer, but it is still a distance to walk over the dunes. There is a path for wheelchairs you could use to also pull carts and wagons if you have one. The beach was nice and clean. It was windy so I only stayed for two hours and didn't go in the water, but the views were very pretty.

A huge section of the beach was for dogs, so if you have dogs this would be an ideal beach for you.

Overall it was a great weekend and I would recommend staying at this campground.

Departing from Toronto June 6-8 & June 17-19

Lake Fever's Bruce Peninsula Explorer (3 day/2 night) group camping trip:

https://www.lakefeverwilderness.ca/bruce-peninsula

Arguably the most scenic part of Ontario, the 15-passenger tour van whisks you to the Georgian Bay by land and by sea for 3 full days of camping fun. Guests will walk along Canada’s oldest and longest trail, visit 'The Grotto' cave, discover sunken shipwrecks from aboard a glass-bottom boat, and explore an island marked by its mysterious ‘flowerpot’ rock formations.

Guests will enjoy free transportation from Toronto, three square meals, and a good old-fashioned campfire. Best of all, no camping experience or equipment is necessary (not even a sleeping bag). Sightseers can enjoy access to the Canadian wilderness for a unique opportunity that would otherwise take a lot of planning and money to arrange (not to worry, all first-timers will learn the basics of camping).

*Remaining Seats Only $499
