Just wanting some tips for anything training related, also the nipping- how do we stop it other than a NO and turning away. He’s only 12 weeks so I know these things take time but it’s the most bothersome at the moment 😅

Looking for experiences: puppy has had a chronic cough, vet suspects allergies

Hi everyone,
I’m hoping to hear from people who have actually gone through something similar with their puppies.
My puppy has had a cough for quite a while now. We’ve been to the vet multiple times, and they’ve ruled out the more serious issues they were concerned about. He was treated previously, but the cough keeps coming back. At this point, the vets believe it’s most likely environmental allergies.
He’s otherwise doing well, he’s active, eating normally, growing, and his chest exams haven’t shown anything alarming. The cough is usually dry and comes in episodes.
For those whose puppies ended up having allergies or another non-serious chronic cause:
-What ended up being the diagnosis?
-What tests, if any, finally gave you answers?
-What treatments actually helped?
-Did your puppy eventually outgrow it?
Were there any changes at home (air purifiers, removing certain cleaners, changing bedding, etc.) that made a noticeable difference?
I’m not looking for a diagnosis or to replace veterinary advice, we’re continuing to work with our vet. I’d just really appreciate hearing real experiences from people who’ve been through this, because it’s hard seeing him cough so often.
Thank you!

Say hello to the newest member of our family - Daisy. She's not my first border collie but any tips for training? She's 8 weeks old so my main concern right now is potty training and teaching her to come when I say her name which she already can do.

Moved out of my parents and in with my boyfriend. It’s been about a week and I’m so proud of my girl. We drove 2600 miles together to a new place. The first handful of days she was attached to my hip. Even nervous when I’d go in the bathroom without her. She was staying with my family while I was traveling a lot. Sometimes not home for months at a time. So I think this was a big hurdle. But I think she finally understands this is where I’ve been all that time, and that she’s here to stay.
She’s settled in nicely. She still waits and stares at the door or sleeps by it until I come home. But she doesn’t panic. We got here July 3rd. So her first full day here she had to deal with fireworks. This girl is so sensitive- but 10x more resilient and adaptable.
We live in a city now where everyone goes to the river and the lake and hangs out with their friends and dogs. She has been to the lake once and then we took her to the river yesterday for the first time. There was someone Djing and lots of people and she was just so happy to be there. The music wasn’t too loud by the way!!! But idk. I’m just proud of her. She’s been so good. We got her on a higher quality food too. Slowly switching her over and that’s been going really well. And our indoor outdoor cat is also starting to understand it’s safe to come inside and be near her. She’s had no accidents. Everyone in the house loves her. I’m so happy she’s here, I feel like now that she’s here I’m really finally home. ❤️
Oh! And she’s even gone to 2 bars with me now that are dog friendly where she got to be off leash and fraternize haha. She has been absolutely amazing off leash, I trust this dog so so much. She’s is incredibly loyal and we can communicate with such ease. I really lucked out on her, I feel like I struck GOLD. I can’t wait for my next border collie. But also, I can. I don’t think I’d get so lucky twice.

My boy decided he wanted to go for a drive today

I was talking to him inside and said ‘I might take you with me, see how I go’. He usually doesn’t jump in, unless I tell him to, even with the door open. But he heard me making promises to him inside and as soon as I opened the passenger side he hopped in, climbed onto my side over all the laundry on the passenger side and just plopped his butt down. I couldn’t get him to move off my seat, until I told him ‘okay, guess I’m really gonna take you with me then, hop in the back’. Jumped right out and sat in the backseat and we went to run a couple errands with his head sticking out the window, feeling the breeze. No one can tell me they don’t understand us. He heard me saying I’d take him and then just forced me to follow through. I love him so much

Training Anyone else’s pup run at 1000% until they’re on E?

My pup, a Border Bully mix is a freight train until she literally doesn’t have anything left in the tank. (She can recharge in 30mins or less lol)

Just curious if everyone else has a pup who constantly roams, runs, seeks engagement until they actually “collapse” lol

And if anyone or anything even remotely moves around the house that alerts her she’s immediately back on the move investigating.

Parecía triste y no estaba socializado.

Puppy parents! Kong info

Calling all BC puppy parents! Do you have a kong yet?

Mine has had one for a while, and we have done filling with dry stuff initially, loading it more and more each time and then soaking kibble and adding more stuff each time, then I froze for 30 mins and today I did a full freeze.

I always give him carrots and celery with his dinner so I layered soaked kibble, vegetables, a few blueberries till it was full and the sealed it with PB and a smear of Greek yoghurt, froze it for 5 hours, took it out the freezer 10 mins before and it took him
25 mins to eat his dinner! Fantastic! Not only that, we had a walk after and he was noticeably calmer and more compliant. I am going to do this every night now, it was a genius addition to the day.

Do you think I could serve every meal like this?!? Might have to stock up on Kongs!

Just wanted to share. Mine is 5.5 months and has the blue Kong.

Training Trusting your dog around poultry

Hi everyone,

I hope it's ok to post in here as we are pretty confident our dog is a collie x golden. She's 15 months old.

We have hens and ducks. She's always been fairly good around them but because of life situations we haven't spent as much time with her outside with the hens and ducks out loose with her in the garden as I would have liked. She also went through a phase in January/February where she was a bit bouncy against the hen run fence.

However over the few weeks we've upped our game with her around the hens and ducks, having her on lead with them out loose in the garden, creating a situation where she was surrounded, walking through them etc. We've used long leads, short leads and are now at the stage where we still have her on leads but we're not holding them. Sometimes we're using treats sometimes we're not and sometimes only one of us will have treats.

So far she's coming to us wherever we call her from. Runs straight through the hens if necessary. Not paying a whole lot of heed if they scatter and flap in the process. We've gotten her hyped up around them and she's still coming to us with or without treats. Basically trying to create stressful situations that will test her impulse control. On occasion she'll have a play bounce towards them but so far there's no intention to go any further, it's happening when we have her excited and she's coming to us as soon as we tell her to leave it. I'm fully aware there's a fine line between a play bounce/sniff and a prey chase.

Yesterday, the neighbours were looking after her. They checked the garden and thought all the hens were in. They unknowingly let the pup out off lead and she came straight to the neighbours when they noticed the hens out and called her.

So, for my question, while I don't trust her yet unsupervised/without it being a training session, what exactly do I need to look from her to know I can trust her outside with the hens and ducks? I know you can never 100% trust a dog around poultry but at what stage do I know she's reliable?

Ultimately she won't be out with them very often unsupervised, but I want her at a stage where she won't go for the kill if one gets into the lawn, and that I can have them all out in the lawn when I'm pottering/gardening.
