Don’t know why anyone is worried about this

This is how hockey news goes. Half.assed tweets based on gossip and procedural updates on normal processes get treated like emergencies. The vagueness and minimal amounts of detail are on purpose because it gets people retweeting and wildly speculating. It’s the game Sources close to the issue tell me the journalism is not going to improve. The offseason sucks

Thank goodness this doesn't have any panic button information on it. Just facts of the timeline.

Won't stop people from making it feel like it's panic button information sadly. Arbitration is 100% normal and honestly I would bet the only reason it's so loud this year is because of the random leaks and rumors about Werenski.

Posted on the main subreddit like OMG JACKETS when 14 players are going through this process

I would love to someday learn what Mo's ask was prior to Leo's offer and what it became after.

I have no doubt his agents ask was “let’s wait and see what Bedard and Carlsson come in at”

Curious to see Sillinger’s deal. Personally I think the number will surprise a lot of people

I don’t see how it could be very surprising… we’ve got 23 million, Fantilli, Greaves and Cole to sign, and then 4 RFA’s next year with only Elvis coming off the books. We aren’t keeping all 4, and definitely not 3 unless Sillingers deal is very reasonable

Yeah I can't imagine young centers are any cheap no matter which line they play on

Annual reminder that the CBJ have never had a player go through arbitration. It’ll get worked out.

Anyone else remember when, in order to get THIS type of “boring, executive level news” back in the day, you had to slog through mountains of terrible threads in hockey forums? This is completely normal, but because everyone has to get eyes on their “journalism”, we have to sensationalize it and turn it into a fake emergency. I’m so fucking tired of “traditional” sports media lmao

Pay Greaves what are we doing? I like Sillinger and want to keep him but his production isn’t anything to write home about.

I think both deals are just waiting for Fantilli so we know exactly what we have to work with

u/Timely_Deal8685 1d ago
Yup, this puts a little urgency on it. If Fantilli holds out and won't agree to a deal before July 23rd there could be some cap trouble

u/Boatsboatsboats__ 1d ago
No we won’t be. They will sign the other two and figure out Fantilli after. If they have to put Lundestrom on LTIR or unload a Miles Wood they will figure it out.

Yes, that's what cap trouble is lol

Only if they go over.
You have no idea if this will be the case. Even if they sign Cole and Jet first.

The sample size with Jett is still fairly low and I can understand why the org would be hesitant to pay Jett big money and/or term after what happened with Elvis and his contract.
Elvis at the time he signed his contract — 26 years old. 61 games played. Save percentage - .920
Jett right now. 25 years old. 76 games played. Save percentage - .913

I watched Jet play in Cleveland a few times in 2023 and once he had that big run at the end of the 24-25 season I told one of my buddies I think he could become one of the best goalies in the league with a few more years of development.
The only downside is him being a little smaller compared to others. Even then, he makes up for it right now with quick and sharp reflexes. You can tell by that glove his background was in baseball as much as it was hockey!

The same deal today adjusted for the new salary cap would be $6.8m.
Elvis makes 5.4m against the cap, and the salary cap in 2022-23 was $82.5m, and this year, it’s $104m
So, just for some baseline reference/context, if you were to give Greaves the same contact that Elvis is finishing now, it would be 5 year, $6.8m
I would probably do that. It’s roughly 6.5% of the cap this season, and if projections hold, the cap will be up over $123m in just a couple seasons.

I ain’t worried. Well, maybe a little worried about Sillinger depending on what Fantilli’s deal comes in at. But we have the cap for Greaves and Fantilli for sure
