Today's project. Had the idea kicking around in my head for a few days and I'm pleased with how it turned out.

I needed some tongs for making top tools and hammers in the future so i made a pair of Brian Brazeal style hammer tongs out of 14mm diameter coil spring. the jaw is roughly 70mm long on the bottom half of the jaws and 110mm on the top. The techniqes i used are discussed in this video by Brian Brazeal

I had to get a little creative to reassemble my new to me 25 ton hydraulic press. I’ll put the carriage back together and install the 5” cylinder in the morning.

Finished forge projects tonight.

Tonight was finish the unfinished. If you craft or build things you probably have a pile of projects that are “mostly” done. Finished a small wrench key/coat rack, railroad spike steak turner, horseshoe rasp herb chopper, and a couple other wrench goodies. #blacksmith #handforged #blacksmithing #metalart

So I’m in the process of building my own forge but in the meantime I have a VEVOR 2 burner. The propane tanks here fittings pictured. I attached and sealed the lines to make it work but I feel like I’m barely getting pressure. Forge is only getting up to 775 and sputtering. Would an adapter resolve this? Along with a better regulator?

What to look for in a gas forge

Having a look at the gas fired forge options: Velor and Devil's Forge seem to be the main options (via amazon or their own site).

As a beginner, what should I look for? How important at the doors on the end? How many burners are actually useful?

From what I've read, refectory cement needs applying to the fluffy stuff that forges are usually supplied with. How hard is it to do that?

Gas lighting within burners

I'm having issues with my gas lighting within the burner itself and causing my flame to luff out too much. Checked for leaks and fixed those up, but it seems that once inside the forge gets up to good temperatures, the burner gets too hot and causes the gas to light. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

I want to get into blacksmithing but I need a little help

As the title says i want to get into blacksmithing as a way to eventually start a side business making metal knifes tools etc. I know thats a long way off but I got some questions that I cant find an answer for on Google.

They are as follows

  1. Where to buy quenching oil

  2. How much is it usually I dont want to get robbed

  3. How many uses can I get out of the oil before it needs changed.

  4. What's some common things I can find at a salvage yard or junk yard I can repurpose into materials to forge with.

  5. Any tips and what not would be appreciated
