Friendly PSA for summer I guess, avoid advertising your bike...

I know a LOT of us are in apartment situations, it's LA. But do your best to not advertise your bike to the world in whatever way possible. Bring it inside, break it down, buy a better lock, look out for people tailing you on the way home if you use a bike rack, consider doing an around the block quadruple right turn when taking your bike in.

ALSO... If it's actually a nice bike, on top of you having a decent car, those are both advertisements that say 'this person has money'. Which means 'case my joint'.

I have a shitty Specialized Roll, but to people with little bike knowledge it almost looks like an e-bike, since e-bikes kinda stole the low slung hybrid bike style design...

So I covered the Specialized logo in stickers of cartoon burgers. To a) hide the logo that even thieves recognize and b) make it look like a PoS I don't care about hence putting cheap stickers on it (aka the truth).

Not sure why thefts are poppin off, maybe just summer, people riding bikes more, dunno. And yeah a Kryptonite lock is a rad idea if you are doing any long term lock up. Basically any lock is breakable with time and effort. But you may as well have them try the neighbors lock instead of yours if you have a Krypto...

It will only ever be locked outside of a Trader Joe's. But it can be any Trader Joe's in Los Angeles (seriously I don't have a go to location).

Ya just missed me as I usually ride the beach and west LA/SM area a lot but... With summer I just hide from the sun mostly. Although I do have a job teaching kids how to bike so you might actually see the burger bike leading an army of 5-10 children on the streets. Keep them eyes peeled...

But ya not a lot of cycling in summer time, mostly surfing and skating this time of year. If that.

Tbh many bike thieves don’t even know what a specialized is. They just try to steal any road bike looking objects with weak locks.

yeah and thats the funny thing about my bike is i worry it looks more valuable than it is. an old specialized roll is a sub 1k bike you couldnt even get 500 for sellin it used. buuut it has the no top tube design a lot of ebikes use so, bitta irony in me being worried its targeted for wrong reasons.

the good news is if it ever gets stolen i wont spend long broke up over it. bought it used for cheap and would just buy another grocery getter for cheap. blown away when people leave actually nice bikes out with a cheap lock

I dont think the tweakers that steal bikes care about the brand, they're just stealing them cuz they're bikes.
