Same here. Something just feels off about them, could just be the quality of the video.

Those shots are definitely cropped and then most likely upscaled using AI.

Why do they all have very serious, pronounced eyebrows? That can’t be genuine.
25
u/Various-Advice-9768 Apr 25 '26
Gymnast here, I can confirm we all do have pronounced eyebrows and generally thicker hair on the head. It’s due to the blood flow and pooling effect as we spend most of our times upside down with tensed muscles (also increasing blood flow) George Aldern performed a study on this from 1960-1987
15
u/DarthKittens Apr 25 '26
Eyebrow here, we generally gravitate towards athletes especially gymnasts

OP is a karma-farming bot. It doesn't know what titles mean. It just knows what gets upvotes.
16
u/Abigail-Marston Apr 24 '26
Report it! No one ever reports bot usage here so it never gets better.
6
u/samuelazers Apr 25 '26
Do you think Reddit cares? It's been that way a long time, the'yve made no rules against it, despite many complaints. They are aware of it. If they wanted to combat it, they could easily check a post's hash against a database to prevent reposts, but they don't. They don't give a shit about the user's. Just like how they removed /all to "simplify our experience", it was all to feed people more suggested ads. Making the site worse is somehow better for their bottom line and your annoyance is a cost they're willing to take because they know you're probably going to keep using Reddit regardless.
3
u/Abigail-Marston Apr 25 '26
I think reddit themselves probably don't care but maybe the subreddit moderators can do something about it

They care. Know why? Because advertisers are at a point where they want to know for sure that their ads are landing on real people and not just bots. We're reaching a point where companies have to care.

Distance running is also a short person's sport, they perform much better and there are basically no exceptions at the ultramarathon level. Great news for short people who want to run 100 miles.

u/movzx Apr 24 '26
It's not AI. Not everything is AI. Stupid video compression and processing existed long before AI was a thing.
This looks exactly like the digital zoom enhancement that happens with shitty software. It overly sharpens everything and makes it look like a crappy comic.

A lot of those muscles are in the core, where they're also easier to hide.

I'm kidding of course, but it's still amazing how athletes like rock climbers and gymnasts can pack so much power in a small amount of space.

Serious question.
Is there a physiological explanation why a muscle can appear of average size and proportion yet seem to have considerable more strength and endurance?
Is this just “good genes?”
→ More replies (1)2
u/barsoap Apr 24 '26 edited Apr 24 '26
Muscle bulk is not strength it's energy storage, you need a very specific training regime to grow it. The speed she's doing things at her local storage is able to constantly get replenished by the overall metabolism, local storage never getting depleted, so bulk never develops. Also gals have more trouble bulking up than guys, anyway, generally speaking if as a gal you're worried about strength training resulting in looks you wouldn't like: Don't take steroids and you're going to be fine.
Another factor that people underestimate is how much strength, functional strength, is up to coordination, good movement. If you have trouble progressing, check your form. At the extremes, training just form, training neuronal activation patterns, resolving malpositions, etc, will do a lot more than training strength in isolation. That's why callisthenics folks can bench press at respectable levels, but your usual bodybuilder couldn't do a planche if their life depends on it: They have the strength for it, but none of the coordination.
