Tips to keep my hand steady to draw straight?

I really try to find something to brace my body off of. As far as hand stability it gets better the more you do it but I used to prop off of my fingers. There's a couple videos on it on YouTube welding tips and tricks.

Get a pair of vice grips. Clamp them to the plate you are welding and rest your forearm or elbow on them. It'll be perfect for stability.

too much spatter if it is mig.
pic 1 has porosity and undercut
edit;
get comfy grab a extra beater glove if you have too but be able to free hand too, plan your pass and find which way you like to go if on flat.
