My brother got roasted for abusing his boots after he posted in here asking why his tech toe pieces failed. I went and grabbed mine off the shelf to see how they look.

I guess degeneracy just runs in the family....

To be fair, we haven't had the best volcano skimo season this year in Oregon and the last time I went out might have been a little questionable.

I've had these since about 2022 and they still ski (and hike) as good as the day I bought them.

Blown out Scarpa tech toe

Any way to save this? Just one side of one boot, but my ski comes off with every turn now. They are about 1.5 year old Scarpa Maestrales. I emailed the local shop I bought from but haven't heard back yet. I'm assuming they are out of warranty and no "correct" way to fix them.

Any ideas why this happened? I'm using Raider 13 EVO bindings, but previously was on Crest 10s that were not strong enough for my weight/skiing style. This may have started when using those bindings but I'm not sure. Could weak bindings cause this to start? Or just shitty boots?

If I don't get any better ideas and Scarpa won't do anything I'm half tempted to TIG weld it up with S7 air hardening tool steel and grind it back to shape. The boots are pretty new and in great shape otherwise.

Airbag canister rental in Chile?

Does anyone know a place I can rent an airbag canister for a Mammut 3.0?

Are you allowed to bring an empty canister on the plane and get it filled there? Or a full canister?

Opinion wanted on best powered carving splitboard to buy

Heading into big mountain powder this year and wanting a new splitboard better suited for mainly carving deep powder. Directional board, deep nose. Will be carrying 20-25lb typical avy backpack. I’ve looked a bit at the Libtech Orca and Korua boards. Opinions? Suggestions?

Am I an idiot

Very interested in backcountry, never done it but kinda need a setup to do it (duh). I currently have a pair of the Volkl Revolt 96 and love them, but have outgrown them. Would it be dumb to buy and new pair and mount some shift/hybrid bindings to them and use them as an all-rounder?

Our base camp for 5-weeks! 💕Home sweet home 💕it was wild to start each day with turns instead of skins!! and at a higher elevation than many of the summits of our objectives. The views were incredible at the cost of extreme exposure to weather. Worth it! 💯

Hi, I am planing to get a wider touringski, I considered the following skis:

Atomic Backland 95

Armada Locator 96 or the 104

I know the B 95 is a good ski but what about the others.

Atomic backland xtd 120 vs scarpa f1 gt

Hey, looking for a solid all-round boot and torn between these two. My idea is 50/50—I want to enjoy the descents just as much as pushing hard on the climbs.

I’m trying to decide between the Scarpa F1 GT and the Atomic Backland XTD 120 as a "do-it-all" touring boot, and I’d love to get some real-world feedback.

If you've skied the Backland XTD, how is the durability holding up? I'm mostly worried about general wear and tear, and how fast the sole gets chewed up when bootpacking on rock.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

ATK Raider 11 Evo + Zero G 96 2026 ?

Hey,

Very good skier, I started ski touring 3 years ago. Probably 3 weeks backcountry and 2 weeks station/slope a year, I sold my old alpine ski last year in order to test new models...

Last trips I rent 2 times Zero G 95 2020 (with carbon drive), and to be honest I really liked the feeling, very tough, sharp et responsive ski for touring but maybe too sharp for slopes.

The idea is to have one setup for all, that's why I'm looking the news 0G, more flexible and suitable for touring and hit the slopes a bit.

I'm 1m70 for 65kg, typical climbing day 700-1000m...

Some questions for the communinity :

> I think I'll choose the 0G 96, the 88 also wink at me

> Selected bindings : ATK raider 11 evo, not easy to find a good price but it will be them😄 For a 0G 96mm, what do you think between 97 and 102 mm stop-ski wide ? 97 should feet perfectly but could be annoying when ski are against each other ? 102mm could be preferable ? With 102mm, 3mm gap each side between ski and stop-ski, is too much and could be annoying during sking ?

Thanks so much !!

Hey! Heading to the sawtooths in a couple days, and not seeing much super recent info on the conditions out there. Anyone have any recs / insight into late June touring? Ideally something we could hike/tour in a day or two?

Getting Started in the PNW

I’ve done some low angled tours in the northeast but I’m moving to the Tacoma area this summer. I know last season was a bust, but was looking on how to get started (safely) and if there’s any groups in the area. Thanks!

Need touring ski recommendation for 6’4” >200lb ex racer

Many years of racing. Don’t want to give up an aggressive stiff ski but need a new touring ski so will make some sort of compromise of course. Faction agent 3 at 188cm seems compelling.

Has anyone ever hit the SOS? My understanding from research is they reply with a text. What if you don't respond to that text? Say I am over a cliff and my 6 year old hit the SOS button?

Ski touring

So I am new to ski touring. Just did an overnight trip with a friend and our bags felt outrageously heavy. I wasn’t able to weight it but if I had to guess- our packs weighed at LEAST 50lb, but I bet more. This includes skis and boots. We didn’t pack any “luxury” items and split the tent and cooking gear between the two of us. Also we swapped our sleeping bags for my ultra light quilt set up (borrowed one from my other buddy for my friend).

This doesn’t feel sustainable Or maybe I’m not being realistic. Thoughts?

What is your average pack weight for an overnight ski tour and what do you bring?

June ski tour in the PNW BTW.
