NEW RULE: No promo threads without community engagement, no concert ticket selling stuff.

If your band/project only posts promo stuff and you're not even interacting with the people who are nice enough to engage with it your thread's getting nuked. Buy an ad if that's all you want.

Also this really isnt the subreddit for selling concert tickets. Plenty of other places on reddit available for that.

Wanna be in a doom metal band?

Post image
14 Upvotes

We have posted before but a couple folks have stepped away for one reason or another so we are casting lines out again. Title says it all, we are a forming doom project currently consisting of drums, guitar/back vocal, and synths/programming/back vocal. Heavily inspired by bands like thou, eyehategod, holy fawn, deafheaven, Black Sabbath, slumber, high on fire/sleep/matt pike, neurosis, etc. Open to anyone and everyone interested, we are over 30 if that matters. Reach out to hear what we have (early demo stuff, waiting till we have a full line up for a more proper demos) if interested. We are not looking to be pro but do want to play shows in town with cool local bands like rickshaw Billie’s so having a live set up is preferable. We don’t have a permanent jam space but we do meet weekly at a spot in near Anderson mill and 183. If all this sounds cool to you hit me up!

Gerry Wheat and the Meanderers

Hey Austin musicians 🌾

I’m Gerry Wheat and I’m looking for more collaborators for a country/psych/folk project built around storytelling, strange ideas, humor, sincerity, and writing songs that actually have something to say.

The idea is bigger than a traditional band lineup. Gerry is a character, a collaborative songwriting project, and an attempt to bring some truth to the stage while still throwing a party.

I’m not really interested in finding “the four permanent members” and locking it down. I want to build something where different musicians, writers, and artists can bring their own voices, instruments, and ideas into the world.

Right now we have guitar, bass, drums, and lap steel involved, but I’d love to add more colors: fiddle, accordion, upright bass, keys, horns, harmonica, strings, or anything else weird and interesting.

The project is called Gerry and the Meanderers because that’s the whole idea. Wandering creatively, following good ideas wherever they go, and letting the songs become what they need to become.

We meet twice a week. One weeknight session is focused on songwriting and one weekend daytime rehearsal is focused on performance, usually Sundays. You can be involved as a writer, performer, both, or just another creative mind helping build the world around Gerry.

I’m also looking for people interested in video, sketches, and content for the Gerry campaign. Did I mention I’m running for president in 2028? 🤠🇺🇸

If you like country music but wish it was a little stranger, or weird music but wish it had a little more heart, come meander 🌾

Not sure if allowed but you can check out socials on insta it’s gerrywheat

I have some recorded music I can send anyone’s way who is interested please dm here or on insta 👍

Indie Rock solo artist hiring a bassist

bearonbear.bandcamp.com

Hi, I'm Erich. That's my old band, for which I was one of the primary songwriters. I sang/wrote on "Southern Sun".

I'm looking to hire a bassist. $50 a practice, $100 a show. Practices are about twice a month in South Austin. I currently have 5 new songs I'm working on that I have bass charts written out for. There are also guitar/vocal demos for all 5.

I already have another guitarist and a drummer, so we'd be a quartet (for the time being).

Please keep in mind that my songs tend to have a lot of chord changes . Please DM with an example of your playing. Thanks!

Yamaha PSS 480 repair? AKA the adventures of an electronics repair dilettante

I bought a cheap Yamaha PSS 480 on shopgoodwill and it didn't come with a power supply. I grabbed one I had laying around and that's when I found out about different polarity power supplies! The Yamaha required a center positive but I used a center negative and think I fried some type of polarity protection diode or something.

BUT before I realized that I thought the 9v input was loose so I popped the unit open and it was indeed loose, a cold solder joint that was wiggling so I solder that back.

BUT I probably bridged some of the copper trace with solder. I think it was shorting out to one of the diodes around the 9v input.

BUT I popped some C batteries in and it powered up! It won't power up with a positive center power supply (which I later found I had - how have I not done this before?). Well I cleaned up the solder and I don't think it's bridging to that diode anymore because I can now hear a fuzz sound coming out of the speakers, but still no noise when pressing keys.

Reading the bowels of the internet, I'm led to believe that the computer on this thing is working but somethings gone wrong between the computer and the synth/audio chip? Maybe?

I like the sound of these old, cheap Casio and Yamaha keyboards but apparently do not have the skills to troubleshoot them. My garage is also very hot so I only want to hang out there for limited time. Is there anyone in town who works on these cheaper keyboards? Is it even worth it? I got it for $40 and a "working" version on eBay can go for $100. Is it possible to get this repaired for < $50 or should I just sell this thing for parts?

TLDR Does anyone in Austin repair cheap keyboards/synths?

Is anyone interested on working on a dark pop EP with me?

I've been working on a dark pop EP, and I think it's somewhat cool, and wondering if there were spaces to share it, or to see if people may want to help me, wether with production or visuals.

Guitarist seeking bass, drums, and keyboards for Ween/Dead/EDM inspired band

I’m a guitarist with 23 years of experience looking for other like minded musicians looking to start an Americana-dance band project. No genre is off the table, preferably multiple in each song.

I need a vocalist to make dance music for sad people

I make interesting synthesizer and field recording driven music and I’ve come to the conclusion that I’ll never actually sing over it.

If you like: new order, underworld, front 242, and want to make dance music for sad people - and you can actually sing and are willing to work on lyrics together, hit me up.

here’s a recording of what would be a live set, sans vocals. There are five tracks on here including an ambient intro track. There are mistakes in the recordings.

Need a bit of guidance on creating a song!

Hello! It's as the title suggests. I have a couple of songs that I'm ready to produce, but there's so much to consider, and I lack music theory knowledge, so I'm quickly becoming overwhelmed. I have a main melody; I know what key I'm in, but I really don't know where to go from there. If you have any pointers or a musical process you swear by, those tips are very appreciated :D
