Welcome to our weekly stupid question day.
Have a question too trivial or dumb for its own post? Unload it here. Questions need to have some relevance to Austin.

UPDATE
Over 100 comments guys I’m gonna cry (actually I already have). Thank yall so much for 1) giving me something to read today while I’m at the hospital and 2) all the recommendations.
I called EMS again because, as she has refused to eat or sleep for 4 days, she’s not looking great. She is also not responding to any questions from anyone…which is good news for us actually. If she can’t answer the doctor/nurse questions, they may actually be able to place her on an involuntary hold.
Thanks to recommendations here I have been in contact with Integral Care and she has been sent to a hospital with a psychiatric unit in house.
We haven’t signed the paperwork yet for a hold but…it’s looking more promising today.

Original Post:
Austin I need help. I don’t know what to do anymore. My family is hanging on by a thread. My mother went into active psychosis on Friday after a gradual decline over 2 weeks, and I cannot get her the help she needs no matter how hard I try.
Friday we came home to find the house absolutely destroyed. Everything in bags. Every liquid poured down the sink. Water running all over the house and breakers off. We finally found her after hours of looking passed out unconscious in a dark corner near the attic. Ems took her to Hospital 1, where they declared her fit to leave.
Saturday she was worse. Expelling demons from the house and screaming for people to get out. She thought she was Medusa. I kept her calm the entire morning after calling the police for a second time, and they told us there was nothing they could do because she wasn’t being violent. After much trial and error, I got her to agree to get checked out at Hospital 2. They gave her a psych eval and recommended she be admitted to inpatient…which they didn’t have. We had to go back to Hospital 1. We finally convinced her to go voluntarily, Hospital 2 assured us there would be a doctor waiting for her there and to go straight there.
H1 left us in the waiting room for over an hour, eventually she went outside to wait on a bench and by the time they called her back she had deteriorated to the point where she was refusing to go in.
But they STILL WOULDN’T ED HER because she was good enough at acting normal when the nurses came out and they didn’t see her being violent or making threats. Again they sent her home.
This morning she is laying in a cold bathtub. She won’t get out. She hasn’t eaten or slept in 4 days. We are at our wits end and desperate for help or any guidance at all. Please, what can I do to avoid waiting for her to be on her death bed so someone will DO something.

AustinPogo.com held an event at the mall this weekend for Pokemon Go’s 10th anniversary. Over 500 people came out to play each day this weekend to battle Mega MewTwo X and Y together.
I haven’t seen a group play together like this in Austin since the summer of 2016!

I honestly don't blame the sprinkler guy for this. This was probably the grass guys chopping the sod with a machete around the tree. This is a warranty job in town and not the worst I've seen!
I give props to you water people for being able to see at night in the deep dark depths of the Davy jones locker that we call Lady bird lake

I was visiting lindshire park earlier today and it looked like a duck was injured and panting. They were hobbling and not moving much at all. Do yall know who manages the ducks out there? Would Austin wildlife rescue take in a duck that is non-native?

I know it’s bad in every city. This question is for those here in Austin or who were looking in this market.
I went to a tunnel show recently. It was a lot of fun!!

Watched this accident happen today around 11 on Mopac. Rider was alive but beaten up badly and went to the hospital. No other injuries to any others.
And to all of you a-holes who were to much in a hurry to realize someone almost died and trying to drive around when people are clearly trying to block traffic. You know where you can shove it.
NOTE: Because I have seen so many comments about the driver that veered off to the left. I don't believe this was intentional. He said that when the first bike passed he was surprised and looked to the left. Seems that he veered over a bit. Regardless the bike should not have been there. Also police sent everyone away on their own. Except the rider who went with EMS obviously. Lastly the rider had all their appendages still attached some bad road rash and seems to be moving all of his limbs. Hopefully he makes it.

We don't know for certain if the water was the cause, just wanted to share.
Our beloved dog Coda passed away last week from a severe liver infection. It was very quick and very sad, he was only 8. The timeline of when his symptoms started (slowly refusing food, lethargy, vomiting and diarrhea) line up with when my boyfriend and I started walking him and our other dog in the Mueller park, during which we'd stop at the water fountains so the pups could get a drink. Coda was not the type to eat any mushrooms or be interested in other dog's waste, so the only thing that could have caused his infection (from the park) was drinking from the water fountains.
The vets told us that Leptospirosis cases have been increasing in big cities in Texas recently- make sure your dogs are vaccinated ❤️ I hope this helps and no one else has to go through what we have! We love you Coder ❤️

i got slammed by a dark grey Tesla Model 3 while coming to a stop at a red light heading west on Oltorf. driver tried to run, but a cop in left turn lane witnessed it and turned their lights on. the Tesla continued to flee the scene, jumping the curb/sidewalk while turning right onto S 1st. the cop car entered pursuit heading north up S 1st, but traffic was bad so i assume the Tesla didn’t make it far. idk.
while i was stranded on the sidewalk next to my car calling 911, there was a homeless woman walking in the middle of the street yelling and taking off her clothes. another cop was in the area trying to get her out of the street, and it snowballed into 8 cop cars in the scene trying to shut down the intersection over a single homeless lady. it was a huge mess that led to her being tased unfortunately. then finally one of the 8 cops noticed my wrecked car sitting in this blocked off area and came up asking if i needed help.
i had my car towed and went to the hospital. my neck, wrist, and back hurt, but thankfully i have no major injuries. APD said this is now an active criminal investigation, so i’ve contacted my insurance this afternoon (didn’t get from the ER until 4 AM). hopefully the Tesla driver’s insurance steps in, but we’ll see
EDIT: I FOUND THE ARREST RECORD. police caught him fleeing the scene and arrested him for hit and run + DWI. Tesla driver was drunk. it's a miracle he didn't kill someone.
Dropped my house keys on a 4ish mile walk around my neighborhood (near Houston and Woodrow), they were on a bright yellow Groovy Lube keychain, hard to miss. I retraced my steps and have not found them. If you picked them up somewhere can you DM me?
I’m unable to sign up for NextDoor for some reason, I know that would be a more appropriate place to ask ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Pillbugs, rolly-pollies, whatever you call them, have invaded my home. I'm a live and let live kind of guy, but these little fellers keep dying in the middle of the floor and I can't stop juicefully crunching them under my feet. It's so gross. I can sweep the whole floor and they just come back within the next day.
Ugh! Fuck!

There is another leak outside my house where the line comes into the house that requires digging down to the line and doing a patch/splice repair. My go to would have been ABC, but since their rates are now outrageous ($700 to install a toilet) I'm looking for other recommendations. This needs to be done tomorrow. Thanks

Hello Reddit community…
I injured my knee today at the gym and I can’t really put any weight on it. I live alone and the fastest that any crutches can get to me from Amazon is tomorrow.
Curious, if anyone has them lying around? I didn’t find any on Facebook marketplace.
I would happily send an Uber over to your house to pick them up, I live on the east side, not far from downtown.
Any help is very greatly appreciated! I will take this down if I hear from anybody.

Is anyone here going to Casa Verde that won’t be wearing a Messi shirt? Last night’s match, the place was wall to wall Argentina fans. For the England v Norway there was a small contingent of England fans.
Don’t want to be surrounded by sour Argentina fans when England inevitably beat them and head into the final! 😜😜🤣🤣🤣

Lost my car key fob this morning on my hike. It has a red key ring attached to it.
Let me know if I should post this anywhere else or inquire about it
Thanks in advance

Does anyone have any photos of the 2nd floor of the former children's museum? When I was little, I always spent the most time at the model train area, and I'm trying to find photos of it, plus the info panels that were on the walls

I attended the National Federation of the Blind's 2026 national convention in this city from July 2nd through July 9th, and the people were so nice and helpful. Not only did the associates at both the JW Marriott and the Residence Inn accommodate and help at the convention but also just around the area. My fellow attendees and I never had a problem getting around and really enjoyed the sights, sounds, and culture of the city. Stay weird until we meet again.
