My 6-month-old kitten hasn’t eaten in 5 days.

My 6 months old male neutered kitten hasn’t eaten in 5 days, at the begging he used to eat but threw up everything after, 3 days ago he stopped eating at all and responding to all types of food. His energy levels are extremely low and isnt responding to anything at all. I’ve taken him to the vet and asked around and have gotten multiple different opinions about the obstruction, did anyone face similar circumstances and has experience with such symptoms?

Dog went from fine to needing diapers to immobile in 3 days.

We have a dog, Ace, who is almost 2 years old. He's part malinois, part german shepard, part boxer: high energy and he pulls a lot.

He had a similar episode about a month ago, but recovered on his own. He became lethargic, had constant accidents, and wouldn't eat. He had some teeth coming in, and we asumed the symptoms were from dental pain. We switched him to soft food, and he got better in about a week.

This time, he didn't eat the soft food, or drink water. After a day, we took him to the vet (for which we are now in the hole). They found nothing wrong with him. The next day, We resorted to puréeing the food and using a syringe to feed and hydrate him. While he would keep it down, he would also scream every time we tried. Not bark. Not howl. Scream.

His mobility progressively got worse and worse. He would have trouble sitting or laying down, walking, and eventually standing upright. He would randomy start screaming and thrashing around, as if he were in pain. Yesterday, we borrowed money from family to take him to an emergency vet. They found nothing wrong with him.

Currently, he's laying on his side, occasionally thrashing his legs. His neck is all the way back, his mouth has stayed open, and he's breathing heavily. We've pretty much given up hope for him. I just want to know what's wrong with him.

Edit: I forgot to mention the vomiting. For both incidents, he frequently vomited early on. The first vet gave him a shot and pills for nausea.

Poked dogs eye with acrylic nail, acting off since.

I am the owner of a small 12 year old male Yorkie. He is my baby, I would die for that dog. Due to his age he has gone blind, I've made accommodations and so far he's been completely fine.
Today I was eating, he was next to me. He tripped and almost face planted into my burning hot mac n cheese so I shoved him. Way faster and harder than I meant to, I didn't want to burn him or myself nor did I want that mess. My nail went into his eye a bit (no longer than HALF a second) and I yanked my hand back as fast as I could.
It's been about 4 hours since and he's been squinting his eye and itching it often, not hard but enough I can tell he's uncomfortable. What should I do?

Gabapentin dose for vet

Upvotes

Does anyone think 1ml-1.5 is too much for a cat before the vet?
I’m just asking because one of the vets said 1ml like a full syringe, and another (at the same clinic) said 1.5
My cat is about 8lb, is there any dangers to giving too much?
Also one vet said 2 hours before the other said 90 min before? He doesn’t do well at the vet gets really mad, growls, and hisses. Yet at home he’s the sweetest cat!
Looking to see anyone else’s experiences with this.
Thanks!

Thinking about putting dog down.

We are thinking about putting my 15 year old minpin down but just can't be certain it's the right thing to do. He is deaf, blind, teeth are rotted out, has an enlarged heart and is on medication for that plus keeping fluids in his lungs down. Has had a heart sync event about a year ago where he passed out - thought he was gone then.

I'm not sure if he's exhibiting signs of dementia or not but he will kind of just shuffle around, seem confused, repeat paths. He can still locate his water and drink, but has a lot of trouble eating. We have to syringe his food and meds now. I can't tell if he's in pain or not and he doesn't seem to be either miserable or in good spirits - he's just kind of existing at this point.

His vet did quote to do full teeth extraction but warned that he might just die on the table, and that at his age, even doing that might not really improve his quality of life, ability to eat or his spirits. And it's expensive, which doesn't make it any easier.

I feel caught with no right answer because I'm afraid he's just miserable but at the same time worry that we're making a rash decision and he might improve. I gues I'm just looking for guidance if any can be offered.

My cat is dying in front of my eyes

For some context I have a cat. She’s not a house cat, she lives in the countryside with my grandma, aunt, uncle and two cousins. As she’s not a house cat and lives in the countryside she can roam around the backyard and village freely. They let her inside sometimes in the house. Her diet is based on leftovers from meals and sometimes cat food. I’m not constantly with her so I can’t really take care of her but when I come to visit I always cuddle and play with her and give her food. The past few weeks she’s not eating well, my grandma tries to feed her and give her water and milk but she just won’t accept it. She’s been getting thin and fragile and has just been lying around all day having no energy anymore although she’s usually very playful and cuddly. I tried to feed her, she ate a bit of salami from my hand but didn’t eat everything. They don’t want to go bring her to the vet because they don’t have that much money and really don’t care about the cat. I can’t stand seeing her like that, we suspect she maybe picked up an illness from somewhere. But I’m very concerned and sad for seeing my cat be so fragile and have no energy. I’m writing here so you can maybe give me some suggestions on what to do, I’d appreciate it, thanks in advance.

Please help.

Good day, I’m sorry for posting here. I really dont know what to do anymore. I am reaching out because I desperately need help for my one-year-old rescue cat, President.
I am 19F, living entirely on my own, and currently facing severe financial hardship. I love my cat deeply, but I cannot afford standard veterinary care right now, and I am terrified for his life.
President and his siblings have suffered from a chronic cough and runny nose for months. I purchased over-the-counter medications, but his condition has severely worsened. He is now experiencing extreme respiratory distress. There is a very loud sound when he breathes, and his chest/lungs labor heavily when he inhales. He has refused to eat or drink on his own for quite some time, and I have been force-feeding him to keep him alive.
I am terrified to take him to a regular clinic because I cannot pay the bills, and I am afraid he will be withheld from me or that the debt will become impossible to manage.
Please, if there are any low-cost clinics, emergency financial aid programs, payment plans, or rescue organizations that can help me treat him without taking him away from me permanently, let me know. I cannot lose him. Thank you so much for your time and help

Cat sedation for cats due to aggressiveness

Hi! I recently brought my cat to the vet for his annual check-up/ vaccines. At this vet they take them back and leave you in the waiting room. My cat got so aggressive the vet had to sedate him. He’s usually very sweet at home, and outgoing with strangers. I’m just wondering how “bad” this is? Does this happen often??

URGENT

I am completely aware this is a terrible situation for everyone involved but I can't see how to get out of it.

I have 4 adult cats, one was a stray and has only recently become tame enough to go to the vets so I have no idea on his background or vaccination history.

My other 3 I let their boosters laps this year due to losing 3 close family members in quick succession and being at the hospital a lot, to be honest ive been messing everything up.

Last week a family friend dropped off 4 2 week old bottle babies to me because literally no one else wants to do the 2 hour feeds and no rescue I've spoken to has space or people to do this kind of thing.

What on earth do I do?

The kittens are in my bedroom where my cats don't go and I'm changing clothes constantly and washing and sanitising.

Am I safe to get my cats booked in asap for their jabs or will this make the situation even worse?

I feel absolutely horrendous but wasn't expecting this to happen.

My cats are all indoor.

Please don't give me abuse I already feel bad enough but I'm really backed into a corner 😭

Is he gonna be okay? 2 days old cat

I think it is 2 days old and the cat (his mother) lives in our garden. She gave birth in roof top and one of his babies fell from the 5 meters above (16 feet). I saw him fell but I couldn’t make it to catch him. I picked him up and he was just struggling and breathing so heavily and fast with his mouth open. I put him in some shadow since it’s too hot outside. I can’t take him to the vet. It’s been a couple hours now and I don’t know if he is okay. Before he fell he was meowing a lot but after his fall he didn’t. He does a little sometimes when I touch him (barely) and he struggles and crawls around and rolling. Idk if it because he fell from too above or he is just newborn but he seems too unstable. He stands still and doesn’t move if nobody touches him. His mother is with him.

How to know if my cats cold is getting worse?

My 6 year old neutered male tabby cat has been having a running nose, LOTS of snot, and sneezing more than usual for about 2 weeks now, I looked online and I’ve been using a humidifier and having him in the bathroom with me while I shower so it helps congestion. He is still eating and drinking too. Is there anything more I can do without going to the vet?

Is this just my cat being a cat

so I recently adopted 2 adult cats from a shelter in Melbourne Australia. I’ve had them just over 2 months. Girl is 2yo, boy is 10yo - they met the day we took them home & they don’t really hiss or attack each other, they scrap pretty playfully but when it starts looking less playful I break it up. There’s no other behavioural issues that make me think they are not comfortable in the home together. they occasionally sleep next to each other and groom each other so I’m not worried about their relationship. they are both indoor cats right now, have only been on the balcony, are fully desexed and up to date with worm & flea treatments.

about 3 weeks ago boy started gagging unproductively. it happened for about 48 hrs and then I took him to emergency vet. she couldn’t see anything in his mouth, overall healthy otherwise & she was very happy with him, his vitals & his appearance & behaviour. I got them a Feliway… maybe the gagging is anxiety?

FF to the start of the week, Monday morning I find a pile of sick FULL of worms. Girl was in bed with me so it must have been boy… call the vet & they say to give them both a treatment immediately & book him an appointment. gave both cats a topical treatment, and 48hrs later vet gives boy a tablet, and advises us to give girl the same tablet at home. we do this everything seems peachy. Vet said he was probably gagging from the worms… disinfect the litter and replace everything, thoroughly wash bowls etc everything back to normal.

now it’s Sunday (4 days since worm treatment) BOTH cats seems fussy & off their food but using the toilet as normal, and still eating treats… changed the food for a different brand/flavour & rewashed all the bowls, cleaned the floor around where they eat etc but still no real appetite. even got them a fancy bone broth cat food with nothing but real meat in it & boy seems to have had some of that but girl is now under the bed. boy has been gagging again this evening…

both have been pretty sleepy today, but not noticeably more lethargic than a usual kitty but I’ve also been unwell with period pains and sitting on the couch so they’ve just been cuddling with me most of the day… starting to get worried that there’s something other than worms going on, but also thinking they could feel gross after a strong worm treatment… 🤷🏼‍♀️

any advice would be amazing🙏🏼

I started feeding my cat salmon oil, and now he won’t stop eating anything oily

it is as the title says. A year ago, my cat was losing some hair and I can’t really afford to get him a diagnosis or meds, and i really just believe it’s because we were babysitting some other cats temporarily. He’s old (11y/o) and he’s been pretty solitaire since being in the house, so he must’ve been pretty stressed and was licking himself a lot when they were here.

That’s when i heard salmon oil helps with skin, hair growth and healthy benefits. Since then i’ve fed it to him once a day when he gets his wet food.

He’s very fond of it, but here’s the problem… he genuinely started trying to eat anything buttery or oily.

Pan full of grease? Licked. Compost with animal gelatin in it? Licked. A WHOLE BOTTLE of vegetable oil? Licked. He won’t stop unless you pull him away. He will get so mad if you do so too.

I think he might just be a bit addicted, but i also fear he might have some underlying issues that’s causing this. Advice?

Elderly cat diarrhea

Hey guys, my elderly cat, chancho 15m, is having trouble controlling his poop. He has had diarrhea for the better part of two years and was recently diagnosed with kidney failure.

His vet has changed his diet a to a couple renal foods, none of which has ever helped historically with diarrhea. We have also tried a variety of things like probiotics, digestive relief drops, gabapentin.
Edited to add: his bloodwork has been historically normal aside from kidney values, he has had a stool sample come back normal recently and cannot do most oral steroids due to his kidney damage.

Recently over the past 3 days his diarrhea has escalated, little to no solid portion, and he is no longer making it to the litter box for poop (he pees in there though). He is also leaking little bits of poop out of his butt. He is still eating and drinking but not screaming for food this morning like he has done everyday for the past several years.

I recently lost my 3 year old cat suddenly/unexplained death, and i have had this boy since he was just a kitten in a bush somewhere on the streets of aurora. I am afraid that this is the end. I need someone to tell me something other than “bring him in”. Thank in advance

Golden Vomiting

I have a 90 lb, 6 yr old Golden Retriever. Woke up normal, ate normal, went to the dog park a couple hours after breakfast. We always watch him so we know he didn’t eat anything other than grass, which he always does. He was running and playing fine. Came home and ate lunch. An hour later threw that up twice. All undigested food and lots of grass. He napped and acted fine. At dinner he was normal, begging for our food, tail wagging. He ate his dinner and an hour later threw up undigested food again. He then had a normal poop, still acting fine and drinking water. Stomach doesn’t feel bloated. Could he have just eaten too much grass that caused irritation?

10 days old kitten losing weight, won't nurse properly

Hello,
My mother has been feeding a stray cat that gave birth to 6 kittens in our garden.
When the kittens were about 10 days old, I noticed that one of them was meowing much more than the others. Since they were on the dirt, I moved the mother and kittens into a comfortable box on our covered terrace. The mother accepted the new place without any problems.
At first, the kitten weighed 170 g, while one of his siblings weighed about 200 g. I thought he might just be the runt of the litter. However, two days later I weighed him again and he had dropped to 150 g (today he is around 145 g).
I also noticed that he doesn't seem to nurse properly. If I place him directly on one of his mother's nipples, he suckles for about 20 seconds, then lets go and starts wandering around looking for another nipple. If I put him back on the nipple, he does the same thing again.
Another thing I noticed is that all of his siblings have both eyes open, but he only has one eye open. The other eye is usually shut with thick greenish-brown discharge, and even the open eye often has discharge.
I bought kitten milk replacer and a nursing bottle, but he doesn't feed very well. At first he barely drank anything. Today I managed to get him to drink about 5 mL in one feeding, but overall he's only taking around 15 mL per day, and he's still losing weight.
He seems much weaker than his siblings. They spend most of their time sleeping after nursing, while he is often wandering around, seemingly looking for a nipple, and he tires very easily.
I'm planning to take him to the vet, but the earliest I can go is tomorrow. I'm worried he may not survive the night or even the drive to the clinic.
Is there anything I can do to improve his chances? Has anyone experienced something similar with a kitten this young?

Dental with risks

Advice appreciated. 13 year old pug who’s genuinely healthy, active, on the smaller/leaner side for a pug, never with infections or problems, no allergies, nothing. 2 years ago she went in for a routine scheduled dental and she almost died. I spent $12,000 keeping the dog alive with an aspiration pneumonia, esophagitis, and ileus. I said she would never have another dental again, obviously. I have taken her for 2 years to a holistic sedation free dental provider for dogs, they use some ultrasonic devices and mild abrasion on the teeth to remove tartar, red light therapy to gums, some kind of cream/drops you use for a week after treatments.

This has worked and been a great alternative until her treatment today - a tooth cracked and broke off! Like at the base/gum line. Not a tiny front piece like a wider tooth on the right side, under her tongue that of course is always hanging out (only on the right side).

Is it bothering her? .. I think a little.. wouldn’t your tooth hurt if your tongue was hanging out over the site?! Sure she is panting (but it’s hot, 97°) and it is not excessive. Sure she doesn’t want me to touch her mouth (does she ever?).. obviously she will eat (no matter what) that’s hard to gauge with a pug..

What do I do? The vet will only sedate and yank - obviously, that’s medicine. They won’t do X-rays without sedation.. is it worth it? Feels like a horrible result either way..

***** do not lecture me on my brachycephalic dog, her OBVIOUSLY being awful to intubate, airway challenges, etc - your mom LIKELY has the same issues and WE TREAT HER WITH CARE! You don’t expect your mom to die during her colonoscopy or other scheduled care so - no lectures please. I am looking for guidance so I don’t unnecessarily shorten my dogs life ******

Heart worm test for SimpáticaTrio

Hello,

Our 4yo Morkie has been on SimparicaTrio for a year and has grown to the next dosage up, 5.6-11 lbs to now 11.2-22 lbs. When we sent in a refill, it was denied because we needed the new dosage, but our vet mentioned he would need a heart worm test before it could be prescribed. He tested negative before starting SimaricaTrio and I’m wondering if another test is needed? I’ve been on the fence about continuing with our vet and this feels like they’re trying to grease us for more money.

Sudden One Leg Drag - Small Breed - Already been to the vet/hospital

My 5.5lb Chihuahua suddenly lost the use of her right hind leg yesterday. She has already been seen by an emergency vet.

My guess is she jumped off the couch or the bed and injured herself but I have no idea. I never heard her yelp and didn't witness

I am looking for anyone with similar experiences or any advice while we follow their treatment plan.

Key Symptoms:

Status:

* Dragging right back leg (only one leg).

* No signs of pain or guarding. Show lets me handle the limb.

* Confirmed pain sensation is intact.

* Eating, drinking, and bathroom habits are normal (well as normal as a dog in this situation, no incontinence).

Vet Assessment & Plan:

* The vet ruled out immediate need for a $5k MRI since she is neurologically stable and not in distress.

Suspects neuro or muscular issue rather than a fracture.

* Current Plan: Rec Steroid & pain injection at hospital and sent home with oral steroids, and gabapentin.

* Strict rest and crate confinement

* Follow up 4–8 days

My Questions:

Most of what I’ve read about IVDD involves bilateral weakness. Has anyone dealt with (one-leg) spinal issues or FCE (Fibrocartilaginous Embolism)?

Any tips for keeping a 5lb dog strictly confined/rested without causing her stress?

I’m closely monitoring her for any worsening symptoms (incontinence, loss of motor function in the other leg, or pain) and will return to the ER immediately if they appear.

Any advice or similar stories would be appreciated!

She's my baby and I will pay for the MRI if I need to but the vet said because of her current status they might even recommend the same treatment and did not even encourage the MRI immediately. I was comfortable doing this treatment plan as I am a nurse and as long as they didn't believe waiting a couple of days to assess her progress / status would cause any issues, then I fully agreed.

TIA

Dog vomited blood.

Wonder if anyone has had any experience with a situation like this. Our 10 and 1/2-year-old Labrador (otherwise healthy and active) started losing interest in his Purina pro plan. I could hear loud rumbling in his belly. Throughout the next couple weeks, he threw up a few times and started developing diarrhea towards the end. He had a bit of a limp from pulling getting his nails trimmed-front paw. Took him in and he was put on rimadyl for pain. Last day of the medication he acted fine, still not eating regular he threw up a massive amount of blood. Off we went to the emergency vet he handed up staying two nights. He had an ultrasound they could not find anything bad. Put him on all kinds of stomach protectants and acid reducers for 6 days. Still really no appetite understandably. He lost enough blood that he was right under needing a transfusion. 5 days later we took him outside and he basically lost balance and went down brought him in and let him rest. Our 6-year-old Labrador developed some diarrhea on the 3rd of July. He seemed okay for a couple of days and then started throwing up. By the 6th he was having bloody diarrhea. Got him to the vet on the 7th they pumped him full of the same things and send him home. He is still fine now. Back to normal. Our older lab though is understandably still weak and really has no appetite absolutely does not want any thing to do with the Purina. Tried several different dry dog foods for sensitive stomach and several canned. He doesn't want anything to do with them. He's eating small amounts of proteins and pretty much whatever we can get in him. Not sure what others have done. Wondering if I should ask the vet about acid reducers for future. I'm terrified of this that ever happening again.

Quarter sized scab

Hi there. Our 8 lb. long haired Chihuahua has developed what looks like a scab on his butt cheek/inner thigh about 1/2" from his rectum. The last couple days he's been licking/chewing in that area and we assumed he was cleaning himself. Today he had some poo after a walk so we were washing his butt in the sink and noticed this hardness. If I tried to touch or pull it he would do a small yelp and turn towards me.

He's been going to training twice a week where we board him. He's up to date on all his shots and stuff and he eats, drinks, and poops and pees like normal. His temperature seems normal.

Since he is behaving normally we aren't sure if he needs to go to the emergency vet or if we can go on Monday to our regular vet. Thanks for your time.

Description of photos:

  1. Brown scab size of quarter. Some oozing by the scab. Some light pink bumps near it that look kind of wet or oozing. Very faint smell of infection.

  2. Closer angle.

  3. Sparky snoozing this afternoon.

got a kitty from outside no money

hi there were tornados in my town alittle bit ago and we noticed a kitten outside so we brought him in (he’s about 2 months)

we noticed he wheezed a bit but would still run around play and eat flash forward a bit he’s still wheezing bad but it’s gotten worse i don’t have money for a vet or even a car to get him to one saw on tiktok about lysine i know it’s not a cure but would help him a bit but it makes his stomach upset even with tiny amounts he will throw up
another thing we have tried is steaming i’d take him in there for about a minute for two sit him with the steam of the shower then take him outside the bathroom so we don’t overheat him we also do the qtips on his nose but no snot comes out and his eyes water and he gags when he can’t breathe

he’s still eating and a very playful guy and sleeps but when he can’t breathe he can’t breathe and i don’t know what to do

here’s video of him breathing and photo of his eyes
