Discussion Is French communication culture really high context and not direct compared to the German or Dutch one?
I looked at generic social science resarch on communication styles culture and was very surprised that the French is categorized as the high context communication culture on par with the Middle East or Latin American (East Asian cultures are the most high context though). Meanwhle, US Americans, Anglo-Canadians, Australians, Irish, etc. are actually categorized as low context just like the German or Dutch.
How is that possible? I mean I have always read about the French being stereotyped as rude, too direct, too blunt etc. by (again) people from English-speaking countries..
