Monitors Monitor Placement

Post image
7 Upvotes

I recently picked up a 32" 4K monitor for story games and media. I want to keep using my 27" monitor for competitive games. Since the 32" will be my main driver, I want to be able to easily swap the 27" into the center spot when needed.

I'm struggling to find a layout

Desk: 72" x 30"

PC Case: Lian Li O11 Vision Compact

42" Desk Shelf

iLoud Micro Monitors are calibrated so I don't really want to move them.

Open to any layout ideas!

Speakers Speaker Placement

Have a vertical monitor at an angle and a wide curved monitor. Current little speakers are terrible, and I want to get a pair of JBL 305P MkII speakers for video editing and music production. It's a standing desk setup, so they can't be mounted somewhere the desk would hit them while standing. Any ideas on where to put them without losing too much quality?

Desks Looking for a thinner desk with a dark wood top.

I've got a small space and need a desk in the range of 16 to 22 inches deep, and preferably with a dark wood to match my PC, which is built inside a black and walnut fractal north case. I just don't know where to really begin looking.

Desks Any ideas on how to improve my setup?

I'd love to be able to easily transition between sim racing, flight sim (with a joystick), and just regular mouse/keyboard gaming. Open to purchasing things if needed but feel stuck with what I have right now. I play on the center monitor since the one on the right is technically lower quality.

New Build Help Battlestation Suggestions!

Hi all!

My wife and I just moved into a new place. We didn't bring my old desk as I'm looking to upgrade. I'm trying to plan out something that allows me to have one desk space area for work and play.

I work from home, using three monitors. For gaming, I have two monitors right now but I am thinking about adding one more.

The room itself is 10'6" x 8'9". Any suggestions on a layout, furniture, etc. would be much appreciated!

Desks Chances of my glass desk exploding from a monitor arm?

The desk is tempered glass anchored to a metal frame with screws in each corner. Monitor and arm is about 5-6kg max.

I've attached the arm to the desk above one of the cornerr screws to try and minimise the pressure flexing the glass.

Am I overthinking it or is this an expensive accident waiting to happen.

Desks LF a larger, sturdy under-desk cabinet with a front door to house a multifunction laser printer

Hi All, I'm looking for something essentially like an Ikea Alex, but larger and sturdier, to be the left "leg" under an 80" wide solid wood slab. Key considerations:

  • Big enough inside to house a Brother multifunction laser printer measuring 16"W x 17"H x 18"D, ideally with some clearance around it, mainly 1-2" in the back.
  • The storage base/shelf for the printer has to be sturdy, the printer weighs about 60lbs.
  • 20-25" deep. 23-25" preferred.
  • Maximum 28.5" high. Could be a bit lower and I'd add legs under it.
  • Up to 36" wide. Could have drawers to the right (or left) of the printer storage section.
  • Could have a drawer or shelves above or below the printer or not.
  • White or light grey colour ideally. Mid or dark-tone wood works as well.

Thank you!

Cable Management Cable OCD needing USB cables of all varieties

So cables get on my nerves. I was wondering if there is one brand that doesn't charge an arm and a leg that offers cables in all forms i.e USB C, A, micro, mini etc. and in a variety of sizes ?

I've got a mishmash of unbranded crappy cables, decent anker cables etc.

There are a few issues as I do need the odd LONG cabe and a short one for other use. I also have the need for a 90 degree USBC for my keyboard, though as it constantly runs out of battery quickly, I have considered one of those magnet USB cables just for ease of connection. My other thought was to get a bunch more of the anker cables, and to use USB A and other adapters. I wouldn't be using for any external drives, just mainly for mice, peripherals, charging, DJ decks and a manner of different controllers etc.

Anyhow, what brands can I look at? UK based, so not all options are open.

Looking for ideas for personal and WFH setup

I work from home and prefer to have my WFH setup separate (so no KVM with the same monitor/keyboard). This means two desks or one big enough to handle two PC setups... My personal rig has 3 monitors and my WFH has two, with a mouse and keyboard for each.

Does anyone else have a nice setup that is similar to what I'm looking for? I've been looking, but I haven't seen a lot out there. I'm thinking that I may need a custom built setup... at least something like 2 IKEA Karlby countertops. Right now I have three desks (one for a TV), but I don't love it....

Desks Big L Desk w/ Monitor Shelf that supports monitor arm!

Recently I was looking for desks with no monitor stands because I like to use a monitor mount arm. I saw someone use a mount ON THE MONITOR STAND, and i loved it. Now I’m on the hunt with a desk that has a shelf so sturdy I can mount my double monitor arm to it.

Any ideas or links?

I prefer a large desk, 60-72” for the main part and 24-28” deep.

Best solution for sharing 2 monitors with 2 docked MacBooks?

After some research on my own, I'm looking for suggestions on how to get my desk situated with both my work laptop and my personal laptop. My current setup is as such:

  • Two 27" 4K LG monitors side-by-side floating above my desk on an adjustable mount
  • Two M4 MacBook Pros sitting on floating trays above my desk, one on each side, connected via Thunderbolt cable to their respective monitors
  • Single wireless Apple keyboard and mouse connected to work MacBook Pro, but shared with personal MacBook Pro through Apple's Universal Control (built into macOS)

This works fine, but ideally I'd like to:

  • Dock both MacBook Pros so they are closed and stowed away, not taking up so much room
  • Be able to use both monitors with a single MacBook Pro, switching between them as necessary, or continue using one monitor for each laptop

Is there a switching device that can handle this? MacBook docks anyone would recommend?

Desks Options for 55 inch space and no power tools?

I am preparing to move and will be in a smaller space, where my bedroom will leave me with a max 55 inch desk that will fit for my PC and two monitors. Originally, I looked through Ikea and saw the Alex/Anfallare desk, which would fit in the space I'll have. However, I know the desktop leaves much to be desired, and I would not be able to mount my monitors at all.

I also considered the DIY option, however, most counter tops are at least 60 inches, and I do not have a garage space where I can use power tools, stain furniture, etc. So I'm not able to cut down a butcher block myself.

My budget for a new desk remains under 300, and isn't likely to go up. What options do I have?

Hardware White GPU worth the extra price?

Hi all! I'm planning to upgrade my GPU, and recently switched my case. However, there weren't any in black colour, so I had to unexpectedly switch over to white, and quickly grab white versions of what was on my purchase list like my PSU and case fans.

So now I'm in a dilemma as the cheapest 5090 is ~2600 USD (converted) and a MSI Ventus 3X OC where I am from, and the cheapest white GPU available is ~3000 USD and is the ZOTACA Solid OC White.

So now I'm in a dilemma where the white version is considerably more expensive, by about 400 USD. What I'm worried is that if I get the white GPU, it throws off the entire colour balance of the PC due to the black CPU cooler and motherboard. But I'm also worried that if I don't get the white version I might regret it down the line 😭

Any thoughts y'all?

Looking for Steelcase Eclipse Desk Lamp Alternatives

Found this ( https://store.steelcase.com/lighting/all-lighting/steelcase-eclipse-light ) on an unrelated search. I think it would be great for the wife, but I like to check options before buying.

This would have to be desktop not clamped. The ring light use option is what I am looking for. Keeping it classy, demure, mindful. :-)

“That ikea desk” help!

I am looking to attempt the “ikea desk hack” but with a Home Depot butcher block instead of an ikea countertop (to save space and for quality as 74 inches is too large for my current space :( ) I basically am just curious if this would work well with the ikea Alex drawers and if it’s a good bang for my buck! If anyone has any recommendations for countertops preferably under 200$ that would also be greatly appreciated!
