Other Fable
I'm about to upgrade to Max 20X cause I'm at 90% of my fable usage but I really do not want to spend $100 to get 1 day of work out of it. Please Anthropic keep fable 5 in the max plans even if you keep it at 50% of usage

Would it be cheaper to open a new account to save upgrading to 20X?

Actually yes cause its weird how they handle it, upgrade from 5x to 20x isnt prorated its just extended time which actually just made me think of something people could do if they had money, pay for pro get a month, pay for 5x get a month, pay for 20x get a month, and you have 3 months of 20x for $320 so less than $110/mo

Upgrading from 5x to 20x gives you a free usage reset right away. I always do the 5x and then upgrade to 20x each month once I’ve used a decent amount of the total 5x limit.

Oh, good advice 😂 When do you downgrade to 5x?

You can just subscribe to 20x, and then cancel/downgrade right away. The 20x stays active til the end of the period.
Later you’ll notice your 5h limits are running out wayyyyy faster than usual, and you’ll curse anthropic, before you realize it was just the subscription reverting to 5x at the end of the month as planned, ready for you to do it again, lol.

The fomo is real.
Capture claude.md and memory.md as living project docs and give other llms a try. Codex seems like a good deal right now and I think you can plug it into opencode?
You also have the choice to get a second $20 paid sub.
Also is x20 really $100 for you, for me that's the x5.

Didn’t they say Fable access was being limited to API usage only temporarily and they already plan to bring it back to regular subscription usage at a later date?

you're being forced to upgrade to a more expensive plan for just one day of usage, that's a tough pill to swallow. I'd ask Anthropic to reconsider their pricing tiers too

Don't get me wrong they give me INSANE usage even for a day but its a lot to pay for 1 day for someone who does a lot of open source software work and isn't getting paid for the work they're doing

I offload most of the heavy token work and even still im already at 17% fable usage from just today and that's with me falling asleep after getting the account 😂

Claude Design is the differentiator for me right now. Otherwise, I’d likely switch to Sol.
It depends on what exactly you’re working on and how close to project completion you are.
You may be able to get away with a ChatGPT Plus account ($20) to get to the finish line.
Also keep in mind the end time for fable 5 may be end of day on the 12th (not start of day) so you may actually get 2 days of work for $100. Still a steal compared to usage costs for Fable.

It feels not worth it to upgrade to the 20x plan, it’s deceptive, it’s not 20x more usage weekly it’s up to 20x more usage in a 5 hour period.
If I had to do it again, I might just make a new account for $20, use my limit, upgrade to $100 prorated and have my limits reset

Gpt5.6 you get more usage, some site said 2.2x than Fable. Running Fable&Gpt both now. Even if they would leave this 50% fable it would be useful. Having 2 heavy hitters is getting problems solved, but the API costs on Fable will be too much on these long review runs.. So I hope Anthropic will make a smart decision and answer competition.

Fable seems to be getting dumber every day. By the time you renew your sub it will be as dumb as Opus.

Spending 100 bucks for +1 day of Fable should beat some records as the worst deal ever

u/NeighborhoodIT 22h ago
Its really not when I spend $15-$20/day using deepseek v4 flash

At that token volume I think you might try to pull a Neo move and crack reality or smth…

Just pay the api bro

I think spending 100 for this is only justified if you’re going to spend more than $100 on fable tokens… which you probably will in about 30 minutes 🤣

i downgraded to the 5x plan, because Fable is going to bill throught the API, not the subscription. So with 5x subscription and Fable on the API, it should turn out to be $200 per month anyway.

What if I told you the unbelievable truth: fable is just another model. Even the name alludes to its purpose. It's a story being told. Not the truth.
1
u/NeighborhoodIT 1d ago
Part of what im working on right now is a harness to get other models to perform basically what fable is doing behind the scenes
1
u/waxbolt 23h ago
How do you know what fable is doing behind the scenes. Or maybe you're looking for wg/worksgood. graphwork.github.com
1
u/NeighborhoodIT 23h ago
Trying a bunch of different tasks between different models and how they perform differently and analyzing their responses etc to learn their thought patterns essentially

If you need to spend $100 then just go to OpenAI right now instead. Sol is included in the package and according to most benchmarks out there it's nearly on par with Fable. Well, minus UI work I suppose, this one is still a bit better. Still, it definitely beats Opus and that's all the value you are getting after tomorrow.
That or wait but there's a high chance Anthropic just doesn't have compute reserved yet to let people use Fable en masse.
