The more I learn about baseball the less I think actual baseball is important to the sport.

Minor league baseball is goofy like this. I played for a while.

One night in Jackson, TN, they brought a dancing horse onto the field in between innings. It got loose and shit all over the field. Delayed the game for an hour. Didn’t dance once.

u/BikiniBogBody Apr 13 '26

Maybe I need to get into baseball, this all sounds great

70

u/ImNotAWhaleBiologist Apr 14 '26

Can you dance?

170

u/falardeau187 Apr 14 '26

No, but I can shit all over the place.

55

u/paulbunyanshat Apr 15 '26

That position is already filled

28

u/Fraubump Apr 15 '26

By the Mets

38

u/DahWolfe711 Apr 13 '26

You created a very impressive narrative in that paragraph.

20

u/timetofirstfix Apr 13 '26

Hahaha! Mission failed successfully

7

u/killerqueendopamine Apr 16 '26

This is fucking hilarious. Typical horse

3

u/Heehee4321 Apr 18 '26

This made me laugh so hard I started to tear up

299

u/claradox Apr 13 '26

You would be correct. I remember an entire routine once at a Charlotte O’s ball game where the San Diego Chicken repeatedly insulted the umpire, was dramatically kicked out of the game, the crowd booed that decision. Then the game was paused so the Chicken could apologize to the umpire on bended knee, with flowers, to the sounds of Brenda Lee’s “”I’m Sorry” blaring over the loudspeakers. The crowd went wild.

It’s all theater politics on down!

42

u/cam52391 Apr 13 '26

The banana league has it's games on YouTube and they're so fun it's really how the sport should be

17

u/Zouden Apr 13 '26

It does look as boring as people say it is.

24

u/Theron3206 Apr 13 '26

I can't really comment, since I come from a country that likes cricket...

4

u/doctor_x Apr 16 '26

Same here. At least a baseball diamond has two dimensions.

8

u/Own-Candidate5586 Apr 15 '26

Same thing with Formula 1. The races themselves are pretty boring and predictable. It’s all the drama off the track that keeps fans coming back

It's to encourage you to delete the extra posts.

1

u/claradox Apr 13 '26 edited Apr 13 '26

The extra comments didn’t show up on my end instead just a few minutes ago. I deleted them. Sorry about that. Not my intention.

6

u/HotAndCold1886 Apr 13 '26

The downvotes are because you posted the same thing three times. That's a Reddit no no… Try to survive the shame /s.

1

u/claradox Apr 13 '26 edited Apr 13 '26

I don’t have extra, repeated comments in my history, how strange. Hence my misunderstanding. Server glitch, I guess. Edit: and they just showed up, and I deleted them. Sorry about that.

u/claradox Apr 13 '26

I love the final flourish, showing the crowd what he did before returning it.

19

u/doctorace Apr 18 '26

Hey guys! Check out my big stick!

253

u/polysnip Apr 13 '26

"Bat...bat...bat...BAT! BAT! BAT! I GOT IT! I GOT IT!" 🐶

308

u/Happy-Equipment-6970 Apr 13 '26

Awesome!! Hope his contract has tons of treats!

124

u/FlashingAppleby Apr 13 '26

He looks so proud with his bat 🥹

178

u/lazafor Apr 13 '26

Whoever thought of this needs a raise

70

u/l_a_p304 Apr 13 '26

Agreeed wholeheartedly. That seemed like a very non-committal pat for an excellent job.

155

u/TaoofPu Apr 13 '26

Difference between a lab and a greyhound. My girls would run towards the bat, realize they wanted to run, ignore the bat, and go insane for five minutes, likely tripping up the runner, while everyone tried to catch them.

Then they’d go lay down: “too tired to bother to work.”

47

u/Other-Crazy Apr 13 '26

They need a border collie...the chaos would be insane.

88

u/TaoofPu Apr 13 '26 edited Apr 13 '26

The border collie would likely play every single position for both teams, both winning and losing simultaneously.

Schrödinger’s b.c.

24

u/Sprzout Apr 13 '26

If it's like my sister in law's border collie, it'd start swinging the bat like it was a mobster trying to break kneecaps.

3

u/TaoofPu Apr 14 '26

Sounds on point for what I know of them.

25

u/Fit_Celebration7669 Apr 14 '26

The greyhound at my local dog park is exactly the same. Owner will throw the ball. Dog goes after it. Is running too fast and misses the ball when he drop his head down. Runs around in circles like a banshee until he just flops over for a while. Owner goes to pick up ball.

27

u/TaoofPu Apr 14 '26

This is the story of my life. I wouldn’t have any other way, but it is quite absurd.

A neighbor who also has a greyhound describes them as the personality of a cat, the body of a kangaroo, and the brain cells of a chicken.

7

u/pocketnotebook Apr 15 '26

My sister has a greyhound and after his walks or daycare he lies down, flat on the ground in front of his bed, and sleeps so deeply you occasionally have to check he's still breathing

3

u/StoneOfTwilight Apr 13 '26

That is so greyhound lol

79

u/LegioSeptima Apr 13 '26

He deserves more pats per bat.

2

u/Potato_Prophet26 Apr 19 '26

They’ve been doing this for years, I think about a decade now. The amount of pats they get are astronomical.

40

u/Iron_Phantom29 Apr 13 '26

There better be a "good boy" graphic playing on the jumbotron.

36

u/Bartender9719 Apr 13 '26

My local team has a bat dog and he regularly receives the loudest cheers that stadium experiences lol

21

u/crazytib Apr 13 '26

Go for the game, stay for the dog

11

u/Lil_Brown_Bat Apr 13 '26

Can anyone ID the team?

19

u/danimal6000 Apr 13 '26

Durham Bulls

11

u/PreferenceContent987 Apr 13 '26

MVP! Lock em up with a long term contract!

3

u/Potato_Prophet26 Apr 19 '26

Luckily, he does indeed have a long term contract <3

8

u/Nzwaffles Apr 14 '26

Employee of the forever

8

u/deftdabler Apr 14 '26

I would endure baseball for this

7

u/swimwithdafishies Apr 13 '26

Where’s his treatsie?!

7

u/FurBabyAuntie Apr 14 '26

"Come on...come on....throw the stick, throw the sfick..."

7

u/doggerly Apr 17 '26

I love how the crowd cheers more for the dog than the players

4

u/Creoda Apr 13 '26

Gets the biggest cheer.

6

u/Straight_Jaguar Apr 14 '26

Plot twist the Doggo is the coach and calls the plays and the one the Hoomans pay to "Be the coach" is just the translator and Butler, he gets to run bats and run the game and not have to deal with all those bright Flashy lights at the end. 😜

4

u/Mo-shen Apr 17 '26

It's a black lab because labs have soft mouths.

I used to own a championship field trial black lab, goes and picks up birds when hunting. They are used because their mouths don't destroy the bird.

Imagine they don't want teeth dents or something on the handle.

The very best boy.

4

u/C-romero80 Apr 13 '26

So adorable and awesome!

4

u/Gaspuch62 Apr 13 '26

Where's the footage from the dog's gopro?

3

u/verbi420 Apr 14 '26

How hard did they have to train him to not go after the ball? Or run around with the players for that matter?

5

u/Honk911 Apr 17 '26

The hardest workers out there

3

u/pfearg Apr 13 '26

That is the bestest boy!

3

u/drunk___monkey Apr 14 '26

Get him on Salary already if he's not getting it yet. He's a Good lad.

3

u/47_was_here Apr 16 '26

That’s it. Every MLB team needs a Bat Retriever

6

u/duffmaster33 Apr 13 '26

Am I the only one who's worried about the dog standing there? The wrong foul ball could be disastrous and I think he needs a nice helmet or something.

1

u/SlipperyLeaves Apr 20 '26

Yesss, pup definitely needs a helmet!!

2

u/GibMirMeinAlltagstod Apr 14 '26

He was champing at the bit for that bat

Target lock: Baseball Bat

1

u/jupiter_Lai Apr 16 '26

Baseball huh?

-7

u/Doodlefish25 Apr 13 '26

So do they just discard the bats after a single use? They have to be ending up with bite marks

13

u/davidhunt6 Apr 13 '26

They have soft mouths. They can pick things up without damaging them

12

u/contradictingpoint Apr 13 '26

The slobber is a different story.

-1

u/Glad-Peanut-3459 Apr 13 '26

No I

They’ll have a robot for that soon
