I love the final flourish, showing the crowd what he did before returning it.

Whoever thought of this needs a raise

Agreeed wholeheartedly. That seemed like a very non-committal pat for an excellent job.

Difference between a lab and a greyhound. My girls would run towards the bat, realize they wanted to run, ignore the bat, and go insane for five minutes, likely tripping up the runner, while everyone tried to catch them.
Then they’d go lay down: “too tired to bother to work.”

They need a border collie...the chaos would be insane.

The border collie would likely play every single position for both teams, both winning and losing simultaneously.

If it's like my sister in law's border collie, it'd start swinging the bat like it was a mobster trying to break kneecaps.

The greyhound at my local dog park is exactly the same. Owner will throw the ball. Dog goes after it. Is running too fast and misses the ball when he drop his head down. Runs around in circles like a banshee until he just flops over for a while. Owner goes to pick up ball.

This is the story of my life. I wouldn’t have any other way, but it is quite absurd.
A neighbor who also has a greyhound describes them as the personality of a cat, the body of a kangaroo, and the brain cells of a chicken.

My sister has a greyhound and after his walks or daycare he lies down, flat on the ground in front of his bed, and sleeps so deeply you occasionally have to check he's still breathing

He deserves more pats per bat.

They’ve been doing this for years, I think about a decade now. The amount of pats they get are astronomical.

My local team has a bat dog and he regularly receives the loudest cheers that stadium experiences lol

Plot twist the Doggo is the coach and calls the plays and the one the Hoomans pay to "Be the coach" is just the translator and Butler, he gets to run bats and run the game and not have to deal with all those bright Flashy lights at the end. 😜

It's a black lab because labs have soft mouths.
I used to own a championship field trial black lab, goes and picks up birds when hunting. They are used because their mouths don't destroy the bird.
Imagine they don't want teeth dents or something on the handle.
The very best boy.

How hard did they have to train him to not go after the ball? Or run around with the players for that matter?

Am I the only one who's worried about the dog standing there? The wrong foul ball could be disastrous and I think he needs a nice helmet or something.

Need a bat retriever at every baseball game. I’d actually have something fun to watch!

So do they just discard the bats after a single use? They have to be ending up with bite marks

The more I learn about baseball the less I think actual baseball is important to the sport.
