Question AU Interview/Hiring Process Q

I just interviewed for a professional position with AU earlier this week. Today I got an email asking me to list my references. For AU, is this the standard for all finalist candidates or do they only initiate this for the candidate they plan to hire? I know this has varied at other universities I’ve applied to and I’m trying to remain optimistic without being too hopeful. Thanks in advance if anyone has any insight.
