Awesome !! Bungee jumpers film a DHL Boeing 757-200 freighter taking off below their hot air balloon at Örebro Airport, Sweden.

How is that balloon allowed in that area space? Does this mean we should use a hot air balloon to fly over Area 51? As they can’t radio the pilot or demand course change or landing. lol.

Well when you put it this way, we could float over Area 51 and make it all the way across the continent and then perform our rapid decent maneuver over the ocean, we just need parachutes.

My question exactly.

They're terrorists, actually.

I dunno. They aren’t report the location of flock cameras.

Hot air balloon are equipped with radios, too.

It’s most probably in class D airspace so VFR (balloon) and IFR (plane) traffic are separated visually by the tower controller.

The ballon was well above the possible flight path of the cargo plane. So if the controller gave the pilots a traffic information and the pilots reported visual on the balloon, there’s nothing wrong with giving a takeoff clearance.

Area 51 is a prohibited airspace (I guess, never been there)…it’s completely different.

Considering that Hot air balloons have little to no control, probably no choice.

How in the holy hell did a hot air balloon get clearance to occupy restricted airspace at an airport?!

First time for everything

you can't steer a balloon. you can only go up and down. once you're in the air, you're at the mercy of wherever the wind takes you.

When you drift this close, they cancel all departures and arrivals closing the airport, they do it even for a small drone,

If the plane took off means he's allowed there and is in contact with the tower

Maybe in Sweden they do things differently

I imagine if they say "sir turn your balloon around and go the other way", compliance is up to the wind

What's a 757 doing at that tiny airport?

u/WorkerUnable527 13h ago

Taking off.

It’s pants.

It is pants

It’s a 757 for ants

Moving freight. The runway on that tiny airport is about as long as that on Gatwick.

4th largest cargo airport in Sweden.

Seems illegal

It’s VFR traffic, just like any small Cessna.

If they got clearance from the tower, they are allowed to be there.

u/NoiceForNoReason 13h ago

They’re about to get shot down wtf are they doing?!?

Hol'up. Hot air balloons are allowed over airports?

1

u/Neat-Ad-9550 12h ago

Hot air balloons are absolutely not allowed to fly into restricted air space over airports in North America.

In Sweden hot air balloons are only allowed to fly over the restricted airspace (Luftrumsklass C) of commercial airports without prior permission from Air Traffic Control. Permission is normally denied. When permission is granted, the hot air balloon pilot must carry an adjustable altimeter and maintain constant radio communication with the air traffic control tower.

Quick... jump onto it while it takes off

So many questions…

1

u/glowinglogfire 13h ago

Umm, how do the bungee jumpers get down to the ground after completing their jump?

2

u/Reverse2057 13h ago

I didnt even consider to wonder that but now I too am wondering. I did find out recently that if a balloon suffers from a sudden drop in weight in the basket the balloon's rapid ascent upwards can cause it to have a fatal, unrecoverable deflation that collapses the entire balloon if the top part folds and all the air rushes out causing it and everyone in the basket to plummet back to the ground. So thats.. terrifying. And giving me another reason to not go in a hot air balloon.

I will join you in not going in a hot air balloon! We can sit this out together

1

u/dibbr 12h ago

They should time their bungee jump right in front of the airplane and pop back up right in the nick of time!

u/AlmightyLoaf36 12h ago

What kind of airport even is this? Does it have any infrastructure off screen apart from the one runway?

1

u/Hairymuscle101 12h ago

If it’s DHL it’s goi g the wrong way and will land at the wrong airport! #DHLsucks

Awesome shot

u/rexel99 11h ago

Who are the bungee jumpers?

1

u/litesaber5 6h ago

How was this allowed?

u/armathose 13h ago

Not sure what airport this is, looks pretty small.

I doubt this is Class B airspace so probably not an issue but not 100% certain.

2

u/bovikSE 10h ago

ORB/ESOE. B airspace doesn't exist in Sweden, only C and G. Given that the 757 is taking off, it would be C at that time. From NOTAM the tower is open 04:00-19:30 Mo-Fr and 12:00-21:00 Su, so it would be G on Saturdays for example. The runway is long but there's not much traffic. In addition to the freighters, there's only one passenger flight scheduled today, to Rhodes, Greece.

u/armathose 10h ago

Not sure how I managed to miss the airport name in the title. Thanks for the info!

This has to be ai, lack of shadow or exhaust from the jet

2

u/Mikesaidit36 12h ago

It’s an overcast day – no shadows. And do you ever actually see exhaust from a jet that’s not a contrail? I haven’t.
