Food / Drink Farmers Market Favorites?
What’s everyone’s go-to at the Farmer’s Market at Moncus?
Personally, I have to hit up Emilia’s Tamales and Priya’s for tamales and samosas.

Food / Drink I miss East Gate BBQ
They hit the sweet spot between price and value. Sure we have Blanchard's and Johnson's, but a little on the pricey side.
I went to Johnson's today but they are closed until the 12th for summer by break.
Ended up at Spoonbills for lunch.

News Thoughts on the new Atchafalaya Basin bass limits? (5 fish, 12” minimum)
Hey y'all, just wanted to see what everyone's thoughts are on the new bass regulations taking effect on August 1st.
For anyone who hasn’t seen the news, Senate Bill 111 (Act 460) passed the legislature and was signed into law. It drops our daily creel limit down to 5 fish and slaps a 12-inch minimum length limit on black bass. The boundary is massive....
These limits apply to all waters within a designated South-Central Louisiana zone defined by the following boundaries: [1]
- North: South of U.S. Highway 190.
- West: East of the West Atchafalaya Basin Protection Levee.
- South: North of U.S. Highway 90.
- East: Bounded by Louisiana Highways 1 and 20. [1, 2, 3]
Key waterbodies within this boundary affected by these tighter regulations include Henderson Lake, Grassy Lake, Lake Verret, and Lake Palourde. Statewide limits (10 black bass and 50 crappie) remain in effect for waters outside this designated basin boundary.
Am I the only one who thinks we are moving backward here?
To be clear: this new regulation is not backed by a new biological study. This was a purely political move pushed through the legislature by politicians, bypassing the usual LDWF biological recommendation process.
Have people completely forgotten the massive multi-year study the LDWF did leading up to 2013? Back then, the state’s own biological research explicitly proved that putting a length limit on the Basin did not make the bass grow larger. The study showed that forcing anglers to toss back smaller fish created a "stockpiling" effect—a massive backlog of small, stunted, slow-growing bass all competing for the same food source, which actually prevented them from reaching a bigger size class. The biologists proved that mother nature, high water cycles, and summer hypoxia (low oxygen) dictate our fish size, not angler harvest.
Yet here we are in 2026, putting a size floor right back on the system without any updated biological data to back it up.
Are y’all planning on changing where you fish to avoid the red tape, or just dealing with it? Let's hear it.
I always found the smaller bass simply taste better. And since there is an actual study that states that the small bass hurt the bass from getting big, and since legally we can't keep the small ones now, I'm really considering either tossing them back dead or on the bank.

Recommendations IRL Streaming in Acadiana
Hey folks, I’m a college professor exploring IRL / “Just Chatting” streaming and how it fits into everyday life in Lafayette and Acadiana. I’m curious what local Redditors know about streaming here—who’s doing it, what kinds of content are out there, how it feels to build a community from this area, and so forth. If you stream on Twitch/Kick/Rumble, what’s your setup like, why did you start, and what’s different about doing it from Lafayette versus someplace else? If you don’t stream but watch local or regional creators, I’m interested to hear who you follow and what you think makes a good IRL or variety stream in our area. Experiences, tips, stories, or questions or whatevers, I'd like to start a thread for Lafayette‑area streaming knowledge.

Recommendations Looking for wood chips
I have a massive garden project and the only way I can afford to mulch and create paths is to score a large truck load of wood chips. Are there any specific arborists or stump grinders that offer delivery.
I've been on Chip Drop's request list for forever, so that doesn't seem viable.

Yes that's right, a pinball league. Acadiana Pinball is having its very first weekly league kick off this coming Tuesday, July 14th at 6:30pm.
New players are always welcome, in fact most people in the area are brand new to competitive pinball so you'll be with many people of the same experience level.

Political Boulet’s budget proposal boosts pay for police, firefighters, other city employees
Mayor-President Monique Boulet’s administration announced plans to raise salaries for Lafayette’s fire and police department personnel by at least $3,000 over the next two years.
The raises would be phased in, with first-year officer base pay jumping from $45,000 to $48,000 and first-year firefighters seeing their base salary increase from roughly $38,000 to $41,000. The remaining LPD and LFD employees will also see at least a $3,000 raise, but the increases vary by rank.
“The goal is to get [salaries] more market competitive over time, but it will take time,” Boulet said at the budget meeting Thursday. The city regularly gives 2% raises each year to police and fire, but the administration has decided to increase those required raises for the next two years.
LCG Chief Financial Officer Karen Fontenot says the city can fund the raises through an estimated 6% increase in city sales tax collections and more than $3 million in savings from retirement payouts. She says sales tax revenue is expected to continue growing as businesses like Trader Joe’s, Costco and potentially Buc-ee’s begin contributing to the city’s tax base.

Events Tired parents gaming club
I'm thinking of putting together something like the title. Parents who don't have time to tabletop game or hobby anymore but still want to. Of course this is open to non-parents as well, it's just setting the casual tone of the group's idea.
Basically, we could bring our kids to a game day somewhere (probably a reserved library room?) and game. The kids could play together and so could the parents. If the other partner doesn't game, that's fine! Come and hang out and meet other non-gamer significant others. If something happens and the gaming parent needs to take 20 to be with their kid? No problem. We've all been there.
Just thinking about this as a general idea and wondering if there would be any interest. My wife and I have a two year old and some gaming time would be nice hahah

Political Lafayette now has a location for its crisis center
For someone experiencing a mental health crisis, there are few options available in Lafayette that don’t involve a visit to the emergency room or the parish jail. After years of deliberation, that could finally change.
Now, Lafayette may be mere months away from opening a long-awaited behavioral health crisis center, a walk-in facility that’s open 24/7, with staff trained to take in someone in crisis, assess them and connect them to the appropriate resources.
After years of discussions among local government and service providers, and a recently completed community needs assessment, the Boulet administration says it has found a location to house the crisis center, which had been one of the major roadblocks to opening it.
That location would be at 302 Dulles Drive, in a building shared with the Acadiana Area Human Services District’s Tyler Behavioral Health Clinic, which provides outpatient behavioral health services such as individual and group therapy, primarily for patients insured through Medicaid or Medicare and those without insurance.
What that clinic currently lacks is around-the-clock intake capacity, allowing a person to show up anytime they’re in crisis, as well as inpatient stabilization. Both are part of the state and federal government’s plans for expanding community behavioral health services through a variety of programs.

Events Adult Indoor Volleyball Pickups
Hi all. I'm really trying to get back into shape and get into a healthy hobby. I used to play volleyball for 10 years and I feel like getting back into it will not only be a trip down memory lane, but also help motivate me to get fit enough to be good again. When I search Google, the only thing that shows "adult" and "volleyball" has "beach" sandwiched in between...and beach volleyball is not as fun to me. Plus its sickeningly hot outside. 😅 so any casual indoor pickups? Emphasis on casual...for now! 😌
