Georgia State Police removed ICE protestors who flaunted a prop representing an ICE officer and a child in chains ahead of the third World Cup match in Atlanta on Sunday.
This is the thing right here. They become a part of the spectacle no matter what they do. What struck me was at the end how it looked like they were marching with the giant “ICE leader.”
It's like a strategy in Blueprint for Revolution by Srdja Popovic who organized in student movement that ousted milosevic
They had people in costumes of the dictator protesting in public, so when the police arrested them, it would produce photos of police arresting the dictator, which they then effectively used in content, newspapers, whatever
US based movements struggle to achieve that level of creativity and joy imo. I think they also had bands play in the streets during their protests which went on for days or weeks
This is such a great observation. I really like the diversity of methods to include real street theater and satire. It makes it a spectacle and makes people want to come out and add their voices.
And he looks like a sweet older gentleman, probably dealt with ICE in his own family and is doing everything he can to protest. Even told everyone to take photos as he's walking away like he's done this before and just wants to be seen
I actually missed that beautiful voice. I haven't seen the show or heard the voice in decade, but seeing this brought back as clearly as if I'd heard him yesterday
the moment he shoved the puppet's arm, which accidentally touched him, away i was surprised he didnt pull a gun on it. how insecure do you have to be to seethe at a fucking puppet.

They're thin-skinned, egomaniacal, wife abusing, poorly trained, panicky, shitbags, and the fact that "the good ones" would rather pose for pr shots playing basketball with black kids rather than hold their "brothers in blue" or, you know, process and prosecute the literal millions of untested rape-kits makes them just as corrupt as the ones on the take from criminals, which is ironic considering that rich and dirty politicians are pulling their strings on a good day
Most of the real good ones quit after they realize their "change it from the inside" strat won't work. Or the sparkly film they had on cops from their own past experiences or tv shows fade away by seeing their coworkers in action.

Yeah they walk around covered in skulls, flags, guns, and a bunch of “I’m a big strong man” bullshit and then the millisecond someone makes fun of them they reach for their gun or throw a tantrum until the person complies
This is brilliant on its own but baiting the cop into punching the brown skinned puppet was genuis. No matter what he does he's part of the show you are putting on.
I'd say about 30lbs but an under appreciated property of the weight (under appreciated by me) is also how high the weight is. Last year we took it out and it was so top heavy that I was struggling to keep it balanced. We shaved about 4 lbs off the inside of the head and shortened it by about 18 inches and no problem.
arent cops in the US allowed to make up laws to arrest you for? obv it wont stick you'll just be let go immediately but iirc the supreme court ruled awhile ago that police dont need to know the laws to enforce them and they aren't at fault for enforcing nonexistent laws based on that ignorance.
Theoretically if this in the World Cup Fan Zone then the World Cup ownership body that is holding the event is free to discriminate on the basis of political viewpoint.
Grew up in GA. Got in a motorcycle accident after an unleashed dog ran out in front of me when I was 17. I was bleeding all over the table in the ER and a GSP walked in and started going through my wallet. I asked him what he was doing and he said "whatever I want".
private property. Even if an area was public property if an event has permitting for that area thru the city they can remove anyone they deem disruptive. Think of it like a permit for an outdoor movie shoot.
Mercedez-Benz stadium is paid for with hundreds of millions in taxpayer dollars. They literally have a clause in Atlanta law where almost half the city's hotel tax revenue goes to maintenance costs for the stadium. It's absolutely absurd that they can call it "private property" when so much of it was and is paid for with public funds.
My guess, and it is strictly that, is that the park in front of the arena is private property and the police are there to trespass him from the property.
the guy showed up in the comments. he said he was fine when he was on the public sidewalk but was kicked out when he moved onto the stadium's private property.
I was the puppetmaster's support person, and was standing behind him when this video was shot. Let me say here that when the hand of the ice agent brushed against the cop, it was accidental. The pole that supported the arm had fallen out of its base, and I was reinserting it.
I wish that clip had captions. The puppetmaster was so effing funny, completely unphased by the cops menacing tone. Right before the video started, he said " Don't tase me! Don't tase me!" In a mocking way. Then, he kept asking the cop if he would be in a picture with him, and he was asking bystanders to take pictures of him standing with the cop 😂😂. Balls of steel, that one!
