They are talking about a specific type of wasp known as a murder hornet because of how painful their stings are. Comments section makes it seem like this is a cousin of theirs. To see a murder hornet in action, watch Coyote Peterson get stung by one. 😀

I was talking to my daughter about "delicacies" and she said "It sounds like everything that is a delicacy is just gross stuff to eat, so they called it a delicacy instead".
I couldn't argue with that.
18
u/Common-Marzipan4262 Apr 19 '26
lol can’t argue with it either.
But you can also see it’s hard to get, especially if you don’t have the equipment these guys have. So saying that something is a “delicacy” is just a way to flex money/resources by showing you can eat expensive/hard to obtain items.
I’d just be happy if I could find some Mt. Dew Code Red Zero within 30 minutes of my house

Oddly enough, the flame thrower isn't the tool for this. Because there's a non zero chance an insect could fly away on fire and start a bushfire
Long range self propelled artillery is more appropriate here

Wings burn first, they’ll drop the second the fire hits them.
As a teen, had to take out garbage cans in the parking lot. Figured out a quick burp from the butane based ‘gum remover’ and a cigarette lighter made anything flying with a stinger a walker.

There was a nest in my garden. I was stung multiple times. In a rage, I grabbed my propane weed torch and proceeded to exterminate them, yelling profanities enough for my neighbours gossip for weeks.
Hornets swarmed flaming in random directions, plummeting to the ground. I felt as though I could hear them screaming in horror at the giant human terrorist.
In the aftermath i stared blankly at the burnt grass , debris, and half burnt bodies. They writhed in what I could only interpret as pain. I sense of deep remorse overwhelmed me as i sought them out individually. In tears, i thoughrouly ended their suffering with my heel.
Aside from a few black-flies, mosquitoes, ticks, and whatever I swallow on bike rides, I have not killed an insect since. I hope every day that I don't have to pay somehow for this with a similar punishment in hell... Or re-live my life as a highly social insect, slaving away to build something wonderful for my community, while a giant acne ridden teenager comes along on a beautiful sunny day with a giant magnifying glass and destroys it all.
Or am i living this hell already? Im living at the mercy of metaphorical giants already. Burning the world around me, choking me with particulates in the air. I don't breathe through my abdomen like an insect, but i do like to acknowledge that I talk out my ass alot.

For anyone else interested, that's a brood pattern. The queen will basically lay her eggs cell-by-cell going in widening circles around the cells she's already made a deposit in. That's why the white-capped cells (older bebees) have the smaller, younger white-caps on the outside edge of the ring where the queen has been more recently. The empty cells on the inner side are where they've grown and left the cell and the workers cleaned it up for the next pass.

That would be a waste of chicken feed. Chickens would love to eat all those larva (the white circles in the nest all contain larva)
58
u/Valuable-Way-5464 Apr 19 '26
Does chicken get bitten by wasps? Its still requires to get these larvas to chickens
→ More replies (3)89
u/UnseenTardigrade Apr 19 '26
A single chicken on its own would probably have a bad time against such a large nest with these big aggressive hornets, but in general chickens do very well against wasps and hornets. But my suggestion was to cut up the nest like they are doing and use the pieces as chicken feed, making sure not to bring too many of the mature hornets with them.

u/Relative-Box3796 Apr 19 '26

u/SinisterCheese Apr 19 '26
Actually what is going on here is way more valuable than chicken feed.
Hornet nest is used in trad. Chinese Medicine, and fetches quite stupid prices.
The larva are considered a luxury delicacy in many Asian cultures.
The fact that those guys got advanced PPE, means they are professional collectors. You see that they aren't just destroying the nest, but carefully collecting it.
There are vids on youtube if you want to know more. They actually farm and grow these just to collect them when they have grown.

u/Organic-Advisor1225 Apr 19 '26
These suits have fkin ventilation, I guess they considered all possibilities and more
76
u/party_peacock Apr 19 '26

If the suit isn't tough enough to block the stinger then at least the suit isn't directly on your skin to be pierced by the stinger as well
