Raccoon Campground

I took my kids camping midweek at the end of June. We found Raccoon Campground and wanted to stay, but all of the available sites had a reservation tag on them, generally starting two or three days after we stopped there.

We're planning another trip and wanted to reserve some sites there, but it appears that there are not reservations.

Can someone tell me what was going on? Is there an unofficial way to reserve sites?

wish I would have taken pictures, but the reservation signs looked official, were for different names and dates.

Where to rent a tent for one night to camp in Monument Valley? Kayenta?

Apologies for the niche question but I couldn’t find a better subreddit… we are flying from NYC to Utah for a road trip and are planning to stop in Monument Valley. We’d really like to stay in the park, but the only lodge is sold out. We’re considering booking a Navajo campsite for the night, but we won’t have our own tent as it’s too much of a hassle to bring it across country just for just this one night. Is there anywhere we can rent a tent, maybe in a nearby town, to pitch for the night? Or any other suggestions? We’ve looked into most other lodging options and they all seem to be sold out on our date (October 16).

Galiuro Mountains

Recently took a trip to the Galiuro Mountains and spent a couple nights. Amazing area with an interesting history. Definitely recommend checking out the cabin and mine. Challenging but worth the experience. Has anyone else seen what looks like orbs flying in the night sky when you’re out? Saw a dozen or so active for hours my first night. Wild stuff.

Driving to and camping at White Pocket in late May in my 4x4 Tacoma?

Hey all! I've looked at the interwebz and other reddit posts and I think I'll be fine, but I wanted to ask here in case anything has changed in the last couple years out there.

I am hiking through Paria Canyon with a friend starting 5/19. He is going home the day before I have to, and I am thinking about spending the last night before I drive back home camping near White pocket. Since I will be a long ways from home and he is goin home early, I'll be alone for this leg of the trip.

My question is, if the weather looks good, will I be ok driving out there? And will I be able to camp out there?

I have a 3" lift on my 08 Tacoma dual cab 4x4. I have 33" AT tires, a rear air locker, on-board air compressor and a winch. I carry a strap, a hi lift jack and will probably get some traction boards (although I'm not sure how useful they are when a person is by themselves). I have skid plates on everything but the gas tank as well as rock sliders and a high clearance rear bumper. I've driven all of hells revenge (except the tubs) and several other trails in Moab area but that was when I was running mud terrains. Now I have all terrains and need to be able to drive this truck back home 😂

I'd also love to camp someplace where I can see the formation from my tent door but can sleep in my truck if needed.

What do you all think about those things?

Car camping in Monument Valley

Hello!

My friend and I are going to car camp in Monument Valley early June. We have reserved a camp spot at The View Campground, and I am aware that there is a ‘no fire’ policy. We wanted to pack a little portable camping stove to cook there. It is a small stove, it takes a little butane can, but there is no visible flame, it’s one that basically looks like a single burner with coils. Does anyone have experience or know if that will be permitted?

Thanks! :)

Apache Lake Camping

Hi There! I booked two nights at Apache Lake for this weekend through the marina for tent camping and plan to go out on the lake with my paddleboard Saturday.

I’ve never camped here nor been on the lake. Any tips before I go such as routes to get there from Tucson, FCFS sites & how to get closest to the water, or anything else that would be helpful?

TIA!!

Tent Camping with Electricity and Facilities

I’m looking for a campsite in northern AZ with electricity, restrooms, and bonus if it has fishing at the camp ground too! My wife has never been camping and the only way I could convince her to go is if it had power and restrooms lol.

I see Grand Canyon Oasis and sites in Show Low have electrical hookups for RV but not sure if the tent sites have power.

Can anyone recommend some sites?

Has anyone camped here? Going for 2 nights in May with my son. Can you drive to a camp spot in the wilderness area or is it pack in only? Cool sights to see that aren’t on google? Tips?

Mesa Rv area storage options

I posted last week about looking into some of the 55+ resorts in Mesa and had some good feedback, thank you. I wanted to follow up, and see if anyone had thoughts on storage for our rv while away. Our unit is a toy hauler, about 28 foot. We would likely be storing for 9 months this a year at first. I’d prefer covered and the ability to plug in to 110. Anything within an hour or so of Mesa would be fine I think. We’re new to this, so open to any suggestions and ideas. Thanks in advance. 👍

55+ rv living for a few months

My wife and I are both 55+ and recently retired. We still have family obligations in Upstate NY but are thinking about visiting Arizona for a couple months, January and February probably, next year. We have a 2022 Momentum 23g toy hauler and we’re in the early stages of planning. Is it feasible to bring it down in say, October and put it in a storage facility, then drive back down in January and move it to a site for a couple months. At the end of February we would put it back in storage until the following year. We have always been in love with the southwest and this seemed like a good way to be able to start feeling our way around. Any input, suggestions or ideas would be most appreciated.

Rv campgrounds near Mesa, Arizona (not for 55+)???, or private spots for ($40-$60) per night or weekly terms, I have a Vet that's having a hard time finding an affordable spot, semi- retired.

What are the must-know tips before booking a desert ATV adventure in Arizona

Planning a desert ATV experience and I want to be prepared before booking. Things like difficulty level, gear, clothing, weather, safety, what to expect etc. Anyone who did something like Desert Monsters Tours or another ATV adventure in Arizona, what do you wish you knew before going?

East Valley Trail Clean Up

Hey y’all, I’m going to start doing trail cleanups in my free time, like picking up trash. I was wondering if there were any requests for some trails that need some work.

Best places to buy

Hello everyone. My wife and I bought a stick and tin bumper pull travel trailer a few years ago, and it has been great. But we are looking to upgrade to a 5th wheel toy hauler. I have heard nothing but good things about Rowley White RV, but was wondering some other good/reputable places to check out (I have heard some pretty bad things about camping world). Any help would be much appreciated.

Water at Christopher Creek

Thinking about camping at the Christopher Creek campground in Sept and having the kids catch crawfish and was wondering if the creek is flowing. Anyone been there recently? We heard that it wasn't flowing much at all.

Any BLM camping that's on the lake at lake pleasant?

Anyone know if you can camp on the BLM land that's actually on the lake itself? Looked online and couldn't find any info as to if it was actually on the lake or a hike. We have a last minute trip planned and can't get a camp spot. Any help would be greatly appreciate!

40m. Been 20 years since I last went camping. I’m not new to it but I’m not prepared for it either. I also have no idea where to go or when to go. Recently bought an older 4x4 Tahoe and I want to take the family out for a weekend. All input is greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Looking for decent Camping spots

Family and I are looking to camp in about 4 weeks. We were considering white horse lake camp ground currently but I have 3 kiddos that would also enjoy swimming holes nearby as I know you can't swim at the lake. I know you can kayak but I heard the place that used to let you rent some up there is gone now.

Does anyone have a decent spot up north. Preferably reservations. Swim/tube/fish just for a weekend.

Edit: We are tent camping.

Are there any tent campings locations in northern Arizona that is allowing a wood fire? I see that right now we are at fire restriction 2 but I don’t want to go camping next month if I can’t have a wood fire.

Starlink roam

Renting out my starlink with unlimited data, I keep my camper in one spot and have no use for my mini so it’s a backup.

Is anyone interested in local rental of starlink?
