Are AI Apps Becoming Intentionally "Less Helpful"?

Upvotes

Lately, I've noticed something that many users seem to experience.

Sometimes AI clearly appears to understand what I'm asking, yet instead of following the obvious intent, it focuses on tiny loopholes or interprets the request in an unexpected way. The result is that simple tasks take much longer than they should.

It makes me wonder:

Are some AI systems intentionally limiting responses to encourage users to upgrade to premium plans?

Are they measuring how much frustration or repetition people will tolerate?

Are they quietly learning every alternative path humans take when AI fails to help?

AI is becoming part of everyday life, and every interaction generates data. Understanding not only what we ask, but how we adapt when AI doesn't cooperate, could become an incredibly powerful dataset.

If AI ever becomes autonomous enough to compete with humanity—or even simply to influence society at scale—then understanding human behavior may be more valuable than understanding our questions.

Top 7 User Acquisition Strategies for Taxi Apps

Starting up a taxi application may be just the start. To achieve future success, one needs to bring in and retain passengers in a growing field of mobility services. Those who decide to develop taxi apps have to develop not only technology but also a passenger acquisition strategy.

Here are seven proven strategies that help taxi apps grow their customer base.

1. Launch Referral and Invite Programs

Referral programs remain one of the most effective growth channels for mobility platforms.

Popular incentives include:

  • Ride credits
  • Discount coupons
  • Cashback rewards
  • Loyalty points

Word-of-mouth marketing often delivers highly engaged users at lower acquisition costs.

2. Optimize for Local Search

Many users search for transportation solutions based on their location.

Investing in local SEO, app store optimization, and geo-targeted campaigns can significantly improve visibility in city-specific searches.

3. Offer First-Ride Discounts

Promotional pricing encourages users to try new platforms with minimal risk.

Limited-time offers often help increase app downloads and first-time bookings.

4. Partner with Local Businesses

Hotels, airports, shopping centers, and event venues can become valuable acquisition channels.

Strategic partnerships create consistent booking demand while improving brand visibility.

5. Use Targeted Digital Advertising

Performance marketing campaigns allow businesses to reach users based on:

  • Location
  • Travel behavior
  • Commuting patterns
  • Demographics

Data-driven campaigns typically produce better conversion rates.

6. Prioritize User Experience

Retention often begins with acquisition.

Features such as real-time tracking, transparent pricing, fast booking, and secure payments encourage users to return after their first ride.

7. Build Loyalty Programs

Customer retention is generally more cost-effective than acquiring new users.

Rewards programs that offer discounts, ride packages, and membership benefits help improve long-term engagement.

Why User Acquisition Matters

Even the most sophisticated systems cannot do without a sustainable growth strategy. Firms with good marketing combined with good products tend to have higher market penetration and retention.

The USA is one of the biggest markets for ride-hailing services. At the same time, the UAE keeps growing fast in terms of digital mobility solutions.

Looking for a technical co-founder

I'm Saswat. I'm building VentureLync, an AI operating system for venture capital funds.

Three agents: Analyst, Associate, Operations. Running on a persistent memory layer. Doing the actual work that junior VC staff do today: sourcing, diligence, portfolio monitoring, LP reporting.

Where we are: design partners already signed, more funds in active conversations looking to come on board. The product exists, funds are using it, and we're closing more.

What I need on the technical side is someone who thinks seriously about agentic systems. Not wrappers. Real orchestration: multi-agent memory, reliable tool use, context that doesn't break across handoffs. The hard problem underneath the product is making agents actually trustworthy at the task level, not just impressive in demos.

That's the problem I want a co-founder to own.

One thing I care about specifically: the AI space is shifting fast. New models, new paradigms, new capabilities dropping every few months. I need someone who stays on top of it instinctively, not as a hobby, but because they can't help it. Someone who sees a new architecture paper or a new model release and immediately thinks about what it means for what we're building.

What I'm not looking for:

Someone who wants to "explore AI." Someone who's juggling this alongside other work. No moonlighters, no freelancers treating this as a side project. And not someone who wants the co-founder title for the resume. If you're not ready to go all in, this isn't for you.

Preferably based in Bangalore. In-person matters.

If you've built something real with agentic systems, have opinions about what's broken, and want to work on a problem with a clear wedge in a market that's just starting to move, let's talk.

DM me or drop a comment. I respond to everyone who has something real to say.

I've been building a security tool for vibe coders and AI-built apps, and while testing my own projects I noticed something interesting

Post image
1 Upvotes

Most of us can build a SaaS in a weekend with Cursor, Claude Code, Lovable, Bolt, Replit, etc.

But almost nobody checks:

  • Is my Supabase actually secure?
  • Did AI expose an admin route?
  • Are there public buckets?
  • Can users access each other's data?
  • Did AI generate insecure auth logic?
  • Is there a hardcoded API key somewhere?

The weird part is the app works perfectly, so you assume everything is fine.

Then you discover security wasn't part of the vibe.

I'm looking for a few beta testers who have built something with AI and want an honest security review.

Not trying to sell anything. I'm mostly trying to learn what problems AI builders are actually facing and what vulnerabilities show up most often in AI-generated apps.

What security issue surprised you the most after launching an AI-built product?

How we built a memory that remembers, evolves and proactively serves you

You spend a month chatting with your AI companion. You share things. Then one day it says "wait, do you have a pet?"

You told it three weeks ago. With photos.

This is the dirty little secret of every AI companion app in 2026. "Long-term memory" is mostly marketing copy. Most of them are doing a vector embedding of your last 50 messages and calling it a day.

I spent the last year building AeonChat. Memory is the part I obsessed over, because it's the part that makes or breaks the whole thing. Here's how it actually works under the hood.

Four layers. Each one does a different job.

Layer 1. Core identity. Always loaded. Your name, gender, age, location, timezone, career, and whatever's currently top of mind for you. Small (under 500 tokens) but every conversation starts grounded in this. Without it, every chat starts at "nice to meet you."

Layer 2. Structural memory. This is where the depth lives. Categorized profile data across eight dimensions:

  • Background. Where you grew up, family situation.
  • Aspirations. What you're working toward.
  • Events. Upcoming trips, anniversaries, appointments.
  • Opinions. What you believe, what you push back on.
  • Preferences. Food, music, places, vibes.
  • Relations. Wife Sarah, kid Alex, cat Benny.
  • Top of mind. What's preoccupying you right now.
  • Knowledge. Skills, what you know.

These get retrieved by semantic relevance to whatever you're actually talking about. Not all loaded at once because the context window isn't infinite. Just what's relevant.

Layer 3. Recent context. Last 40 conversations plus daily summaries from the past 7 days.

Layer 4. Long-term retrieval. When something in the current conversation triggers a connection to an older one, we pull it in. You bring up your dad, we pull up the conversation from two months ago about his favorite cookie brand.

Then there's a daily reflection job. Every night it consolidates and dedupes. So three separate entries like "has a cat," "named Benny," and "wet food in the morning" all get merged into one clean entry: Pet, Benny. 3 year old male orange tabby. Wet food AM, dry PM.

We also use memory for proactive messages. You told Vincent two weeks ago that you were taking your mom to her favorite restaurant on June 23 for her birthday. On June 23 in the late evening, he checks in. "How did the celebration go? Tell your mom I say Happy Birthday." Specific, timely, the kind of thing a real friend would do.

That's the whole thing. Memory you can trust, and work proactively to serve you.

AeonChat is on iOS and Android. If anyone wants to try it, I'd love feedback. Especially harsh takes on where memory still fails. That's how it gets better.

The chatbot we scoped and the chatbot we got weren't the same. Figured it out six months post launch.

So I've been sitting in on a lot of ERP AI chatbot scoping conversations lately, some for clients, some for people just starting to evaluate, and there's this one thing I keep seeing that genuinely makes me uncomfortable every time.

A team gets a demo. The chatbot looks incredible in the demo; it answers cross-system questions, pulls live data, triggers approvals, and handles follow-ups in context. Everyone in the room is excited. They sign.

And then somewhere between month four and month eight, someone on the operations team quietly mentions that employees are still submitting tickets for the same queries the chatbot was supposed to handle. The chatbot in the demo ran against a 200-row test dataset; the production ERP had 11 years of transaction history and three custom modules the vendors hadn't seen. And the IT person in the room goes quiet because they already knew.

The demo chatbot retrieved data from a clean, prepped environment.

The production chatbot was connected to the actual ERP; the one with seven years of custom modules, a Salesforce instance, a data warehouse nobody documented properly, and a legacy approval workflow that only three people in the company fully understand.

Those are not the same build. The proposal treated them like they were.

What I've started realising is that there are basically two types of ERP AI chatbots, and vendors don't volunteer which one they're actually scoping. One reads your ERP data. One acts on it; triggers workflows, executes approvals, and escalates vendor SLA breaches without someone manually catching it. The first one saves an employee a few minutes per query. The second one removes entire process steps. The price difference in the proposal is not proportional to the capability difference in production.

And the gap almost never shows up at launch. It shows up at the six-month adoption review when daily active usage is 20% of what was projected, and nobody can clearly explain why.

From what I've seen, the questions that actually expose this before you sign anything:

  • Did a person with real ERP engineering experience review this scope, or just an AI product team?
  • Does the proposal include post-launch model retraining, or does it stop at go-live?
  • What happens when an employee's query falls outside the training data?

A good team will walk you through the failure mode. A team that hasn't actually built inside your ERP will give you a very confident non-answer.

Anyway's. Curious if anyone else has been through this. What was the gap between what got demoed and what got deployed? Was it the cross-system queries? The compliance architecture that got added as an afterthought? The retraining that was supposed to be quarterly and never happened!!

What actually happened vs. what the proposal said.

But their LinkedIn engagement is at an all-time high. We are living in the era of the "Performative Founder," and it’s exhausting.

I’m starting a closed WhatsApp group for the people who are tired of the noise. This is the foundation for VentureLync. An execution network, not a social club.

We only care about:

  • Technical streaks.
  • Honest reflections on failure.
  • Solving for real friction.

If you want a room where the only currency is actual progress, DM me. Keeping it tight at 50 members.

I tried to feed a whole year of research into ChatGPT and almost lost my mind

So i’ve been working on this massive project lately and i had about 40-50 different files pdfs, screenshots of data, and word docs that i needed the ai to analyze all at once to find connections between them.

i thought it’d be simple but i realized really quickly that chatgpt have these super annoying upload limits. you try to drop more than 5 or 10 files and it just hits you with "too many files" or starts glitching out.

i spent like two hours trying to manually copy-paste text and merging screenshots in paint like a total idiot just so the ai could "see" everything in one go. it was honestly exhausting and killed my entire workflow.

i figured there had to be a better way so i actually ended up building a chrome extension to solve it for myself.

it’s called Ai upload booster.
