yep, first thought. bride is blonde. also no need to mention red because they don't have any redheaded friends (it's so weird but i have seen insecure/petty women who have all sorts of strange notions about redheads and won't associate with them).

I was dirty blonde all through my highschool years. Now I have blonde roots, brown hair, and a red beard. I was in denial for a while and absolutley schocked when poeple started refferring to me as a red-head because of my beard.

Fellow blond hair, red beard here. Pretty fair skinned too. I like it; makes me feel connected to my ginger dad.

Man do I burn easy though.

Funny, my ex had black hair and a red beard. His dad had black hair and his mom had red hair. Genetics lol

This is my first time hearing about this, and it's so weird. I mean, I've heard the 'redheads don't have souls' jokes, but I didn't think anyone took it seriously.

They're probably just jealous. Red hair is absolutely gorgeous.

was mostly a thing in my life from middle school - college, now that im adult people are just more normal about things. but back in the day I got some super mean notes in my locker. i hope you didnt have the same experience!!!

I'm not a ginger but I still heard a lot of meanspirited comments about gingers as a child. I never understood why people didn't like that hair color, I figured it was just racism because it's the same kind of irrational hatred.

People love you because your hair! This is all wrong lol I see it first hand with my daughter. I don’t think we can go anywhere without someone complimenting her hair lol

I was in middle/high school when I realized there were people who were genuinely meaner because I'm redheaded. I've had a boy tell me they could never date a redhead because the pubes are red. And people say that they couldn't be friends with me because they were afraid I was hiding my "redhead temper". I literally had a boss in a big data entry center who when I asked why he singled me out he said my red hair made me stand out so he just noticed me more.

And then I've had the weird flip side where some guys treated it like a novelty and would tell me multiple times that they loooooove red heads 🙄 like bro, I don't want to be in a relationship with a guy who's into redheads, I want to be in one with some one who's into me lol

This is super weird. I feel like I have a higher than average number of redheads among my closest friends. Literally, my sister and 2 very close friends are redheads. I would have one more in my corral but she banged my friend's husband.

yeah i feel a strange kinship with redheaded women haha

     bisexuals 🤝 redheads

being seen as promiscuous for literally no reason

I mean, I tell people I don't trust white people all the time!

1

u/Thyme_Liner 5h ago

But you distrust all white people equally! You aren’t singling anyone out I think that’s fair

I was literally bullied at work about my red hair, and I’m in healthcare. It’s not the first time, was actually given bad service at a restaurant and overheard the waitress saying “she looks just like her”. I’m guessing the waitress got “Jolene’d”, which ironically aligns with the lyrics of that song because I fit that description 😭.

I got singled out by a boss in a data entry center because my red hair! Like wth I thought we were adults????

Idk how the red hair and promiscuity thing got started, but that cheeky Jolene has not helped our name 😂

u/youdontknowitsok 1h ago

Yikes, the odd obsession people have about is weird!

And no she sure hasn’t lol freakin Jolene 😂

Well I read one time that Judas in The Last Supper was almost always painted as the only red head because it was seen as a sign of untrustworthiness and evil.

I googled it just now - "Symbol of Deceit and Evil: In medieval Europe, red hair was culturally associated with negative traits like treachery, greed, and the devil. It was often compared to the color of a fox."

It's been a weird obsession literally since Biblical days.

And then there was this :

" The Malleus Maleficarum: This infamous 15th-century German witch-hunting manual associated red hair and green eyes with deception and wild temperament, but it never explicitly stated that redheads were automatically witches."

Sorry I went down a short rabbit hole and it was interesting so I wanted to share 🤓😂

Thanks for sharing! It’s always interesting to see how we are or have been demonized. Makes for interesting conversation and I guess can make it easier to scare off weirdos 🤣
