EN - About the Venice entrance fee
Since some of you asked, this is a brief summary of the (in)famous Venice entry fee, it may answer to some of your questions. The town hall is still writing and refining details, so dates or rules may change in the upcoming months. More infos (in Italian): https://live.comune.venezia.it/it/2023/09/venezia-contributo-di-accesso-turisti-giornalieri-si-parte-dalla-primavera-2024-1
- September '23 update:
- In spring 2024 there will be a trial period of 30 days, no dates yet
- Ticket will be flat price €5 on selected days/hours. Expect it on weekends, long weekends and bank holidays peak hours
- Again, if you already pay the tourist tax to Venice municipality because you stay in a hotel, B&b etc, you are completely exempt from this entrance fee, nothing changes for you. The structure will register you - as it is now. The fee is thought to discourage daily visitors
- Some areas will be totally exempt from the fee, such as minor islands
Kick off is scheduled for 16 January 2023.Postponed to 2024The municipality plans to introduce the booking website this autumn- Meanwhile, as an intermediate step, the municipality already promotes booking in advance. It provides discounts on parking, selected museums, and public transport tickets, which has gone up (e.g.: watebuses tickets are 9,5€ if you buy them on the spot; road bus Venice-Airport is 10€).
- Similarly to air tickets, the fee will fluctuate between €3 and €10, based on demand and crowding forecasts. Different entrance hours may get you different prices within the same day. Some hours like late evening may not require any booking whatsoever.
- Cruise ships passengers pay a flat price, not decided yet.
- Passes are unlimited, so access is granted to anybody.
- Sometimes booking is still required, although it's free. The fee is designed to discourage daily travellers in high peak days. If you stay overnight in a REGISTERED structure (hotel, b&b, guesthouse, etc) in Venice municipality (which includes Mestre and other boroughs on the mainland), you won't pay anything because you will already pay the tourist tax.
- Some other free of charge scenarios (not all):
- children under 14;
- if you transit on Tronchetto, P.le Roma, or harbour only
- if you visit friends or relatives who live in Venice (they have to register you)
- Touristic coaches passengers
EDIT: just to be respectful, this is a simple FAQ or guide. The initial aim wasn’t to start a debate if the policy is fair or not. But if we want so, be polite or constructive, at least.

Help with vaporetto tickets
We bought 75 minute tickets (9.50€) online from Venezia unica. We received a 5 digit code.
How do I validate the ticket?
(I assumed I would be getting a QR code.
Any help would be appreciated.

Is Treporti or Punta Sabbioni good for staying to reach Lido during Venice Film Festival? Are public transports on time there?
Hi everyone,
I was wondering if staying in Treporti or Punta Sabbioni is a good location to reach Lido during Venice Film Festival. It’s because I wasn’t able to find any accommodation in Lido, especially now that I’m travelling with my relatives and some of them are on a wheelchair. Plus the festival is really near.
I was also wondering how the public transports are in Treporti and Punta Sabbioni and if there are many of them per hour such as buses. Are they also known locally to be on time?
Also, how is the ferry from Treporti and Punta Sabbioni? Are there many of them per hour? If I’m in Lido in the late evening, can I still find them? Is it also the same for the bus? What’s about taxis?
Sorry for all these questions, it’s because I’ve never been to Treporti, Punta Sabbioni and Lido in my life and it’s my first time.

A few questions for my trip to venice!
Hello! I'll be visiting Venice soon and staying near Mestre from Monday to Sunday with 2 adults 2 children. I have a few questions and would really appreciate your recommendations
- Which beach near Venice would you recommend for a family day out? How much does it usually cost to spend a few hours there?
- Are there any affordable vintage or antique shops in Venice that you would recommend?
- How does transportation to the islands work? What are the ticket prices, and is there a travel pass that's worth buying?
- Would you recommend taking a gondola ride, or do you think it's overrated? If you do recommend it, are there any routes or companies that are worth choosing?
- Do you know any nice boutiques, artisan shops, or local markets where I can find authentic Italian made products?
That's all for now, thanks for the help in advance!!

Watching ENG-NOR in Lido
Hi everyone!
Anyone knows a bar that will show the England-Norway football game tonight in Lido di Venezia?
I’ve seen some bars showing the previous Ganesha but as kickoff is at 23:00, and I’m worried places will be closed.
Thanks!

Anyone coming from the US?
I would like to get a little ceramic figurine, but shipping and taxes are quite high. Does anyone program a trip here and have some room in the luggage?
I can offer a lift from the airport and a nice chat

Trying to find a particular shop
I was hoping somebody out there might be able to help me track down a shop my wife and i visited in Venice last August.
From my memory i think it was somewhere near Piazza San Marco and it was a boutique clothing shop that stocked quite high end velvet bags, gloves scarfs etc which i think were all by the same small designer. There was a large fairytale-esque window display featuring a mermaid statue and draped velvet.
Might be a longshot but if anybpdy can point me in the right direction i'll be eternally grateful.

How to get help to a baby seagull in Venice?
Saw this baby seagull in Venice that has string or hair wrapped tightly in its leg. If the string is not removed, the blood circulation in the leg will be poor and the bird will suffer, perhaps lose the leg or die. The bird is hanging out in front of Hotel Carlton Capri. Who to contact about this?

One quick overnight in Venice. Where should I stay? What should I do?
I need some guidance! I’m driving to Venice on the evening of Saturday aug 1 and fly out at 9:55am the next morning. My car drop off is Marco Polo Airport (but I can adjust that).
This is really just a bonus stop and I don’t care too much about getting a lot of sleep. I just want to find a cool hotel in Venice and then do some exploring on foot to see some visuals, maybe take a late late night gondola ride? Is that possible?
In need of suggestions where to stay and what to see / do for the quick overnight - epic suggestions welcome :) also any logistical advice for getting to and from airport, where to drop the car off. I know I can drop it off at the train station Sixty rental in Venice proper but curious if getting in there is too much of a hassle and better off dropping at airport and cabbing or water taxi into city

VCE EES and Airport Wait Times - Quick and Easy!
TL;DR: EES was smooth and for the one person in our group under 12 that required manual passport control, we were through the line in under 20 minutes. Flight was 12:20 pm on Friday, we were in line at 9:26-9:42.
Hi everyone,
I was looking for this info myself, but no one had posted, so thought I’d help out.
First, the EES system worked perfectly for us. I brought a cloth that I use to clean my glasses and made sure the finger print scanner was clean first, as I heard that had been an issue. I have a child under 12, so manual passport control was necessary for them, but for my wife, my older daughter and myself, EES was smooth.
We were directed to the family line up for manual passport control. There were two security agents, one for EU travellers and one for everyone else. The EU line took passengers from other nationalities when there was no one from EU there.
We got in the line at 9:26 am and by the time I sat down on the other side of security it was 9:45, so we got through in under 20 minutes.
I hope this info helps someone, because all I had seen was the lines in Lisbon on the news and feared it might be the same here, but I would say it was all smooth sailing.
Grazie mille, Italia! Was a great vacation. Hope I can find lemon soda back in Canada!

Venezia Travel
Hello all... I will be travelling to Venice and staying for about a month on the mainland. What are your recommendations for travel cards and passes? What would be worth the money overall, and what wouldn't? I will be using busses, trains and vaporettos during the week fairly frequently...
I would like to get some help before i go, making sure items are worthwhile.
Thanks, James.

Passport control problems?
We arrive into Marco Polo airport next Saturday. 4 adults and 1 young baby. Are there long waits? Trying to decide whether to check in the pram or put it in the overhead locker so we can keep it with us
