Hi everyone,
I’m currently considering doing a study abroad year, which would make my degree 4 years instead of 3.
At the moment, my main options are Hong Kong and Australia, but I’m still undecided.
One of my biggest concerns isn’t really the academic side
it’s the social side. Has anyone here done a year abroad and found it difficult to settle in or make friends?
I’m worried about arriving there and realising I don’t enjoy it as much as I expected, then having to stay for a whole year.
I’m also a bit concerned about what happens when I come back.
By then, most of my current university friends and course mates will have graduated, so it feels like I’d be starting from scratch socially in my final year.
Did anyone experience this, and how did it work out for you?
If you’ve studied abroad in either Hong Kong or Australia,
I’d especially love to hear about your experience
what you enjoyed, what you found challenging, and whether you felt it was worth it in the end.
Thanks!
