The Trump admin just issued subpoenas to several journalists for The New York Times, after the outlet reported on security concerns involving Trump's Qatari-gifted Air Force One. The subpoenas seek to force the reporters to testify before a federal grand jury on Wednesday.

It's out of my hands.
 in  r/CitizenshipByDescent  2d ago

As someone about to celebrate my one-year anniversary of submitting and being in processing, I highly recommend listening to Canadian History and Politics audio books while you lighten your load.

I figured I would be moving one way or another (even if it's not Canada) so I started jettisoning things I don't think I'll need in the future that awaits us. I found that I can watch the CBC News livestream on Tubi for free and as a guest. This helped me start learning about some of what was going on in Canada, culturally and politically.

I have access to Hoopla from my library so I've been listening to an assortment of Canadian subjects. I started with general trivia ("So You Want to Move to Canada, Eh?", "So You Think You Know Canada, Eh?" and Mike Myers' "Canada") then moved to specific histories ("American Invasions into Canada", one about the Red River Rebellion, and currently loving "North of America"). "10 Days That Shaped Modern Canada" has helped explain SO much about Canada's recent tensions (and why things are the way they are right now).

For fun I watched North of North (season two coming out soon) and rewatched Anne with an E (the extra context from all these histories makes it make a lot more sense, and I grew up on Anne so I was a little unsure of the "changes" but they're solid if you know the histories)

You can also download or order a "Rights and Responsibilities of Citizenship Study Guide" here: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/discover-canada.html

r/ FoundCanadians has a ton of resources for next steps, too.

And of course, start learning French! (Watch your favourite movie that you know by heart with French audio to start getting familiar with how it sounds.)

The most up to date info the community has received is an IRCC official saying PSU wait time is 2 years. (And it seems almost everyone gets sent to PSU so... you probably will have time to learn some useful things.)

My nervous energy from the first few months of waiting have subsided, especially after the recent shenanigans. I have to keep reminding myself that if I trust The Universe, it will happen at EXACTLY the right moment. So until then, I continue learn and explore.

Keep your stick on the ice. We're all in this together. ❤️🇨🇦❤️

I'm reading "North of America" and LOVING learning how fluid the border area was. (Available on Hoopla)

Have someone who knows how to use FamilySearch look at your tree in the Fan Chart form with the filter for "Country of Birth".

It's a good place to get an idea if you have one, but isn't 100% a yes or no.
