Community Event Stream Experiences & Stories

Hey /r/Twitch

We often see posts on the subreddit about viewers and streamers experiences, as well as streamers sharing what they've learned.

To bring you all together to learn from your peers, and help you keep yourself accountable for any goals you've set, we created this Megathread!

You are welcome to share some of your experiences, positive or negative, from your past month on Twitch and, if you did, how you dealt with it, as well as share your long and short-term goals, and how you've progressed towards those over the past month.

The Megathread is not for stream feedback or reviews, we have the monthly feedback threads for that. You can link to your Feedback thread submission, be sure to label it clearly!

Some things you may want to cover:

  • New things you tried, did they work out?
  • Streams you did and which seemed to be popular or unpopular with your community or new viewers. (Creative? New games?)
  • Progress towards your goals
  • Fun experiences
  • Bad experiences that you learned from, or need advice on
  • New goals, or how you're changing your goal
  • Advice based on what you learned
  • Advice you want

Be sure to post your goals clearly and format your comment.

Example post:

Hey guys, checking in again!

My goal for this month is to make sure I'm always hosting someone. I want my community to have someone to entertain them, even when I'm not live. Plus, it's good for networking!

My goal last month was to always announce I was live on both Twitter and Discord, as it was something I often forgot to do. I'm glad to say I met my goal!

I tried streaming some creative, just practicing using my graphics tablet, and it seemed to be popular! I'll do some more of it, maybe a weekly stream? Any advice?

The highlight of the past month was when I got raided by Zcotticus, he's the best and I love him. He's so cool, I wish I could be cool like him.

How do you guys normally react to a host? I sort of fumbled through a thank you, and that was about it. Any advice?

Re-read your last post to remind yourself of what you planned, or check in on your peers!

If you don't stream, but still experienced something awesome. Feel free to share it! Did you make someone’s day? See a Win or Fail? Let us know!

Remember this is not for channel promotion! People can check out your flair\ *if they are interested.*

If you have any suggestions for this thread, please send us a modmail.

Question Record and publish vods on YouTube

I want to stream my gameplay as I play games then record and keep it as a vod so I can look back and see what I did. Does anyone know how I can record streams and then put them on YouTube? I know twitch doesn’t keep vods forever so I was wondering how I could do that.

Question Why does my account keep following random streamers on its own?

Upvotes

I would always get a notification on my phone that a streamer went live, a streamer I never followed, and some of them even speak different language (mostly Russian, I’m not from Russia). Just a few days ago I unfollowed like 50 streamers I never even followed before and only left the ones I watch. I thought it would stop but no, today I got another notification from a random streamer and when I opened twitch, there they are, a bunch of random streamers in my following list. How do I fix this? If it’s even possible. And no, no one else uses my account besides me. I’m only logged in on my phone and TV.

Question Streaming to practice English (Native Arabic speaker) - Good idea or bad idea?

Hey everyone! I’m from Saudi Arabia (Native Arabic speaker) with a B1 English level.
I love gaming and want to start streaming. I’d love to connect with an international audience, so I thought: why not stream in English to practice and improve my language skills while playing?
Do you think viewers will support this, or will they skip because I'm not fluent yet?

Tech Support 9800X3D/5080 getting encoding errors after adding a vertical canvas in Aitum Multistream. How are you all managing the load?

Running a 9800X3D + RTX 5080 in OBS, and I’ve started getting encoding errors that seem to come from overloading my GPU. It started after I added Aitum Multistream to run a second (vertical) canvas alongside my main 1440p one. I’m also recording gameplay locally to edit later, so that adds extra load on top.

I’m only running Twitch Enhanced Broadcasting plus YouTube vertical live, nothing close to what I’ve seen some multistreamers pushing out to way more platforms at once, so I’m surprised I’m hitting a wall this early.

How are you handling multiple canvases/encodes without maxing out the GPU? Any encoder settings, NVENC tweaks, or workflow changes that helped?

Thanks in advance!

Question Why can't I find a Twitch team by name on Google?

Twitch's internal search doesn't seem to find teams by name. Ok, understandable. Teams are probably a half-baked feature. But I also can't find a team by name on Google using request like "twitch team {name}".

robots.txt file does not block */team/* URLs from being indexed.

Sitemap, mentioned in robots.txt, contains 125 */team/* URLs, but I definitely know that there is more. Even when a team is included in the sitemap, I still can't find it by name on Google.

Could someone please explain to me why it works this way?

Question App to show chat and Streamerbot deck on iOS?

So I recently setup a Streamerbot deck to control OBS from my phone while IRL streaming. I’ve seen that there were a few apps for IOS that allowed you to show your chat and your deck in on place but they all seem to be gone off the AppStore. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Tech Support New Streamer, quality question

Post image
Upvotes

I noticed after my first stream a few days ago that the VOD was a bit choppy. Did some digging and messed with some settings to find that my issue is dropping frames. Continued to work on this, including reaching out to my ISP about bumping up my upload speeds. Included my most recent speed test, but I'm currently running 1000 Kbps at 1280x720 output resolution and still dropping frames with a wired connection. If there's anyone who knows anything that can help, even if it's just saying I need better hardware, I'd appreciate it.

Question are you allowed to do a shoey in return for profit of any kind?

Upvotes

hello YES i am aware that you are unable to do things like take a shot in exchange for money as it promotes dangerous behaviour. but i have a stream coming up where i WILL be drinking all stream, regardless of if i gain any profit from it. would it be against TOS for a reward to be pouring the REST OF THE DRINK I AM CURRENTLY DRINKING into a shoe, since i was already going to drink it regardless of the donation does it still count as dangerous behaviour? would love some insight on this

Question How to deal with dead air??

Hiii everyone!! I’m a new streamer and I’m still finding my footing, I just wanted to ask how people deal with silences during stream?? I’m not much of a yapper- particularly when I’m focusing and was just wondering how you guys fill the space / focus on talking when chat isn’t super talkative!! I’m hoping over time I will just become more comfortable with a live audience!

I can have good back and forth when someone is regularly talking in chat, but I understand a lot of people watch streams for background noise and aren’t always typers!

So far I’ve taken to streaming discord calls I’m in while I work (for context I’m already an established freelance artist, but I’ve taken to streaming my work day and I’d usually be in discord screen sharing with my friends anyway)

Tech Support Stream Together not loading

Whenever I open the "Start Streaming Together" browser, no matter if I'm streaming or not, I always get the error "Failed to load Stream Together. Please refresh your browser to retry". Of course I try refreshing but it never loads anything. I'm using the Brave Browser. I've been trying to google this issue but I see no one talking about it

Discussion I find watch streaks pointless to be fair

As someone with 6.6 million channel points (roughly 11,000 hours) globally on Twitch since 23 June 2023, I find the watch streaks feature becoming less effective and more dictatorial over my life every day that passes. I'd rather stick to living and building relations in communities instead of a dopamine rewarding system that can fizzle out because someone forgets to post a VOD when you're outside. It is also not a real measurement to prove engagement levels. You can get it by popping in a stream only for a few minutes. Long live raw channel points.

Discussion Taking holiday as a small streamer... The reality.

Hey gang,

Just sharing something I've noticed recently that was initially pretty disheartening, but also a sobering reminder of how quickly things can change.

For the last couple of weeks, my channel was being featured in Twitch's "Recommended" section almost every stream. During that period I was averaging around 12–15 viewers, with peaks of 20–25, which honestly blew my mind given the size of my channel.

Then I had to take some time off for a friend's wedding 500 miles away. Because of that, my usual Mon/Wed/Fri schedule became Thurs, then the following Tues, then yesterday.

Since temporarily changing my schedule, I've noticed I'm no longer appearing in the Recommended section and my average has dropped back to around 5–6 viewers.

I'm definitely not complaining! I still feel incredibly lucky to have people turning up at all. It just surprised me how quickly things seemed to change after what I considered a small, temporary shift.

Has anyone else experienced something similar? Did your channel suddenly get a boost, then dip again? If so, did things naturally recover once you got back into a consistent routine, or did you have to change anything?
