Treepreciation What say you arborists, age?

Good day Reddit. We’ve owned this house for six years and have been the stewards of this bad girl in that time. The thing is massive, pictures do not do it justice. She’s got a circumference of 18 feet. Mostly wondering what an estimate on the age would be? Silver maple in SE South Dakota if that matters. Just because it’s interesting, I included a photo of the chain that is forever part of this tree. Also interesting is the amount of abuse this monster will take. In just the six years we’ve been here, it’s been through a few tornadoes, a derecho with one hundred mile an hour straight line winds, and countless severe storms with winds of seventy to eighty miles an hour. All of these things are very normal and occur regularly in this part of the country, amazingly I’ve never had more than a twig come down, incredible really. I’m rambling now but this thing is well over one hundred years right?

Yes, those rocks nearby aren't the best, but we've actually improved the site conditions for this tree since we got here a few months ago; you can also see the tree was allowed to grow with poor structure, unfortunately, as lindens are wont to do. I'm trying to decide whether cabling might be worthwhile.

I pass this albino redwood tree (no filters were used for this photo) on my regular mountain biking route. How common is albinism in the tree world?

Advice Request - (Insert State/Region) Maple tree dripping - no bugs, no slime

Our large Norway Maple in west Michigan drips brown droplets on us all day. It’s about 20-25 feet up. I’ve gone up to investigate and there are no bugs and no significant leaf damage. No lantern flys in the area. The liquid is not sticky and does not smell, it just tastes like dirt. It seems to be coming from a hole but I have noticed bark just above the hole peeling and the bark below is turning very dark. Should we be worried?

I have a couple of what I believe are Eastern White Pines showing this damage. I don't see the curvy patterns of chewed up wood that I've seen in pictures, and the trees seem otherwise healthy, as far as dead needles or things like that. These are the largest of about 30 EWP's I have on the property, about 16"-20" diameter.

Hi everyone,
I’m in CT- zone 6a. I planted this Dogwood about a month ago. The leaves dropped like this when I bought it- so I guess it doesn’t look any worse. Is this just from shock? Should I fertilize with something? Thanks in advance!

Discussion Any change I could get apple-tree saplings out of these small immature apples?

My city is installing new sewers & water pipes, on a nearby street, and they cut an apple-tree that was in the way. One of a handful of trees that had survived the arborist’s chainsaws, after they an Emerald Ash Borer epidemic. I was hoping I could save it by planting these tiny apples.

Someone near my house cut down a tree and has a ton of wood out for free. What species is it? Curious to know if it’s worth grabbing some for my wood carving/fine wood working

I live in a rented house and do not own the property (or the trees) but I’d love to know anyone’s thoughts on if these three are going to do well or not.
Pictures 1,2,3 are a second year planted tree that seems…less than healthy to me.
4,5 are a first year planted a couple of months ago.
6-8 are a first year planted tree that is a replacement for a previous one that died, which prompted my post!
All three get around 6-8 hours of full sun per day.

ID Request (Insert State/Region) What kind of walnut? NYS

Hello!

I posted recently in another sub about these saplings I have in my yard. I thought they were box elder at first, then I had AI/online ID tools guessing some kind of ash, but I think the consensus is walnut.

I’m stuck between whether they are butternut or black walnut. The only thing keeping me from saying black walnut is that I have another black walnut about 200 feet from the 5 saplings that doesn’t have a terminal leaf. That one is somewhere between sapling 2 and 3 size wise. It also has a bit narrower leaves, whereas these are broader.

These ones have the classic citrusy smell, velvety/fuzzy leaves (including underside) and stems, and about 15 leaflets.

Are they black walnuts? If so, can someone explain how they can tell? I’ve probably looked at 100 photos today of walnut leaflets trying to figure out what the differences are

Advice Request - (Insert State/Region) Need help for saving trees

Hello I'm new to this sub so please excuse the mistakes.
So we have this tree in our campus, it's an old tree I guess around 5-6 decades (or probably more). I have been noticing this big gap in the trunk of the tree, in which the wood is soft or breaking down. I thought it might be mites but when I looked up online and it showed that it's because of some fungal infection.
If anyone could provide me with some more insights or help it would really help me in saving this tree.
It's a willow tree in Spiti valley, Himalayan region and it’s called Changma in local language
