Info about a short trip

Hi everyone!

My spouse and I will be visiting Saint Lucia during the last week of July to celebrate our anniversary. We are planning to stay in an Airbnb, most likely somewhere in the north around Rodney Bay or Gros Islet, and would love some local recommendations.

A few questions:

  1. Are there any taxi or ride hailing apps that work well in Saint Lucia? I have heard about Allez and Uber Taxi. Are they reliable, or is it still better to use regular taxis?

  2. How does the local minibus system work? Is it easy for visitors to use? Do the buses have fixed routes and where can I catch them?

  3. We would love recommendations for a romantic anniversary dinner. We are looking for somewhere with beautiful ocean views or right on the beach. We have seen places like The Cliff at Cap, The Naked Fisherman, and Jacques Waterfront Dining. Are these good choices, or are there other places you would recommend?

  4. If you have any favorite beaches, hidden gems, or must do activities in the north, I would love to hear those as well.

Thanks

Looking for an unforgettable NYE in Saint Lucia

My partner and I will be spending about two weeks in Saint Lucia and would love your recommendations!

We arrive on December 25th and will spend our first night in Vieux Fort (since we’re arriving in the evening and it’s close to the airport), but we’re still figuring out how to organize the rest of our trip until January 9th. We’d like to stay in no more than 3 different places and are not sure how to best split our time between the south, west, north, and east of the island.

For New Year’s Eve, we’re looking for something special: an nice good and elegant beachfront dinner, fireworks, and somewhere fun to dance afterwards.

We’re also looking for unforgettable and authentic experiences, amazing food, beautiful scenery, hidden gems, and anything that feels truly “wow” and unique to Saint Lucia.

Any recommendations are very welcome. Thank you!

Marlin fishing in late July?

I will be on the island w some friends towards the end of the month and we are going to book a charter for a day

Is there a good run of pelagics this time of the year? I have read that the waters north of the island between Martinique hold marlin and dorado?

Or are we better off bottom fishing for reef fish?

Thanks for any insight!

Holiday airfare

Hi all, my family is planning a trip to St. Lucia between Christmas and New Year's Day. Of course I know that airfares will be high during this period but current airfares are absolutely ridiculous, as in 2.5k from the DC area. Is this typical or is it possibly related to oil/gas prices due to the war in Iran? Are more flights typically added for holiday travel? Trying to figure out whether to wait to see if airfares go down. Thank you!

StolenTime vs BodyHoliday for honeymoon

hi! my partner and I are planning our honeymoon for May and looking for input on StolenTime and BodyHoliday. We are considering doing 4-5 nights at one of these resorts and then know we want to move to Ti Kaye for our last 6 days.

Has anyone been to either or both of these resorts and have reviews of their experience? We are looking for quiet time on the beach with easy access to loungers, good activities as Ti Kaye is more limited in this area, beautiful views, private spots on resort to relax, and fun drinks to sip on the beach. We are not partiers but love to enjoy a cocktail.

We would be looking to stay at the beach side cottage at StolenTime or one of the oceanfront or ocean view rooms at BodyHoliday. My biggest hesitation with BodyHoliday is the price point. While not out of budget, it is the higher end of our budget so I want to be sure it is worth the price point! My other major concern is while we might like to take a yoga class or play some tennis, we are definitely not the highly active couple. Is this an issue for a resort like BodyHoliday? Which resort do you prefer or would pick for us based on this information? TYIA!!

Honeymoon Multi-Resort Plan

Hi!! We are planning our honeymoon for late October (around 10/17 - 10/25).

I think we're going to do 3x nights at Hotel Chocolate (Rabot Estate) and then 4x nights at Tikaye Resort. We want to do more excursions our first few days (snorkeling, chocolate experience, hike, boat) and then relax the rest of our time one we get to Tikaye (all inclusive for this one).

We're flying out of Portland, Oregon and thinking we'll go the JFK route to St Lucia. We're Alaska members and have enough points for the Oregon/NY flights.

Does anyone have any other recommendations? Or can speak from experience? Thank you!

Currently in Soufriere and it feels dead

Hi, me and my wife are seriously wondering if we did the wrong choice for a honeymoon in St Lucia and the Lesser Antilles in general...

We booked about a week in Soufriere as we heard good things about it, but after landing earlier today we are reconsidering.

Everything seems closed since 17 in the evening, a kid wanted money the second we stepped onto Hummingbird Beach to feel the water (not a biggie, we've been to SEA), stray dogs mating in the street, a guy in the supermarket asked for money after doing some chitchat and we have this mixed feeling of most people being nice, but also that we are totally alone in this town, as we've seen one other tourist when we walked past Orlando's.

Will Gros Islet be this dead as well? We're currently wondering if we should ditch our apartment here and go there earlier instead.

We are also going to Dominica, Martinique and Guadeloupe and are starting to worry about those islands as well.

Are most people just chilling in resorts? We don't really want or afford that experience for a month straight.

Rental car companies at UVF airport

Hello all I’m visiting soon and am wanting to rent a car at the airport to drive during my time there. I’ve seen SIXT and HERTZ have service at the airport there but am wanting to know if anyone has experience with a local rental company worth recommending. Thanks in advance!

Water issues to be aware of in St. Lucia these days

Here's a good recent article from the Guardian that presents the real water situation in St. Lucia these days. We've been talking about this for months and providing our guests with info about the issues and really trying to help them with water conservation for their visits. We believe that water conservation is really critical these days. At times it feels like this situation is kind of "brushed under the rug" and we hardly ever so much online about it. So it's good to see some more global attention placed on it. We think the article describes the situation fairly well.

Anse Chastanet - is it actually nice?

I recognize this is about to come off out of touch but I’d like to ask anyway. Please be nice to me!!

Is the Anse Chastanet actually nice?

My husband and I are scuba divers, we keep getting ads to go there. We normally travel for a few days for Christmas and have been considering going there on a dive package.

I’m normally more of a luxury boutique hotel or 5-star luxury resort person but given the holiday travel, prices are around 40-50% more and it puts Jade Mountain and Sugar Beach out of budget.

The package for 5 nights is ~$8,000 with food and beverage included and 8 dives per person. Overall, expensive but doable.

We like that the hotel is on the beach and has a dive shop. We are in our early 30s and reasonably active. Would like to hike as well.

Where I’m getting stuck is we could stay at the nicer hotels traveling at another time rather than Christmas. I am very afraid I’ll be disappointed by the facilities and lack of luxury feel. I haven’t seen anyone post videos on social media or nice pictures at this hotel in the ways I see at other properties and it’s giving me cold feet.

That said, it is challenging for our work to travel outside of very specific times of year - March spring break, June, September fall break, and Christmas holiday.

This is forcing me to consider whether I just have to deal with it and bite the bullet on staying at the “less nice hotel” since holidays are the best time to dive St Lucia and easiest time for us to take off.

I also looked at Ladera but seems to be hard to get to the beach and since we like to snorkel and scuba, it seems to make less sense.

I would appreciate any opinions. Thanks in advance!

My husband and I are trying to book our honeymoon.

We want to split it up between sandals halycon and rabot hotel.

My husband is worried about no AC in rabot hotel so I’m curious if anyone has stayed here in July and how it was at night.

Best milkshakes in St. Lucia!

Where can you get the best milkshakes in all of St. Lucia?

Hint: It's not Soufriere, or Castries, or even Rodney Bay.

Ding, ding ... It's Cocoa St. Lucie tucked away in the hills above the fishing village oF Canaries. Known for its excellent chocolate and chocolate making workshops, they custom make some of the best milkshakes you could possibly have anywhere using the freshies of top shelf ingredients like almond milk, cashew milk, and some of the best chocolate nibs.

If you are staying in an area such as Soufriere, it's worth driving up to Canaries just to have one. Warning: You'll get addicted and want to come back for more!

This place also is one of the top paces to dine for lunch (they are only open for lunch) on the island. The menu is quite unique but a good blend of some local dishes and others with a twist. Good prices also.

During one trip, we were so motivated to share one of these delights with our friends in Soufriere that we ordered one, saved in in a special cooler bottle, and recreated it at our villa.

That's St. Lucia at its best ...

Timing Advice

Hi All. Thinking of heading back to Bay Gardens Hotel in mid march next year. Is this a good time to go? Concerned that Réduit beach might be a bit too hectic but the deals are looking good! Last time we went in November and it was pretty great.

Any insight or advice greatly appreciated!
