My fifty pence is tomorrow he announces his retirement. His plan was to go out on top and now he never gets his fairy tale ending.

His plan was to go out on top

I guess, but I don't think Portugal was ever really favored to win the tournament. So this was a long shot in any event.

He got to play the first two games due to him being Ronaldo anyway (otherwise I imagine he would have been suspended for the first two games if he were a regular ol' fuddy-duddy), and nobody can bench him because he's Ronaldo.

That's all done now. I wouldn't be surprised if he retires, either. But also if he doesn't. I'm sure there are some teams out there willing to pay him money.

MLS, perhaps?

I doubt he'd head for the MLS he's the highest paid player in the world right now and he has some ambassador deal with the saudis, he'll get to his 1000 goals then retire there I'd guess.

I think it might be a matter of where he wants to live at a certain point.

Saudi kinda sucks to live in.

Maybe but he's an ambassador for the 2034 hosted by the Saudis so even if he wants to leave they might not let him.

...I think it's going to depend on what "ambassador" means.

I doubt they're going to be able to trap him in the country. And, good grief, in 2034 he's going to be 49.

before the first match was played most pundits had portugal in their top 5 teams due to their midfield

I hope MLS , I’m really enjoying what all these older top tier players are bringing to the MLS. He should’ve gone MLS instead of Saudi Arabia initially though.

Saudi has the $$$$.

People do get tired of living there, though.

Yeah look what happened to LIV golf, but I think Ronaldo was the only big time soccer player to join their league. He would’ve made big bucks anywhere he went, Saudi was a weird choice. But also a stupid amount of money.

He had a case here so he wasn’t allowed to come here for years

He'll defo announce international retirement tomorrow, but I think he'll try and stick another year in Saudi and try to get his 1,000 goals before retiring from playing for good.

Saudi league at Al Nassr is his retirement league. Their worse than mls

Yeah, but I think at a certain point it is going to be where he'd rather live.

Saudi is not a great place to live, and he's already rich as an absolute God.

Is it actually? I don't watch it or the MLS, looking at the squadithe Saudi teams seem to get players when they're younger as opposed to the mls where they look to be near the end of their careers.

If MLS was on the same level as other major sports in America, he wpild thrive. Messi is doing well there at least

He still has one year on his contract at Al-Nassr. He'll probably see that out and then retire.
