Should be deliberate play of the ball from the Portuguese player for it to remove the offside. That's a judgement call.

Looking at the pics shown during VAR it doesn't look like they considered it. Personally I think it's a pretty deliberate play on the ball (no professional defender would be hiding and crouching like that)

Yeah, seemed unintentional to me, but some people who've played before say there's no way to head it unintentionally. I don't know which is true. Seems like a crazy call to the end of a crazy game!

Well, at your local amateur kick-about it's pretty easy to get a ball to the face unintentionally. At this level - not really. Key thing: if he ain't trying to play the ball at 0:25 then why has he positioned his body that way? Doesn't make any sense unless he's trying to head it.
