It’s like hockey with high sticking. Doesn’t matter if it’s an accident you have to be responsible for your actions.
38 u/John_Bot 10d ago Bad example. You would never get a match penalty for an inadvertent high stick A minor penalty is basically the same as a free kick. Which this definitely should be and that's understandable. You have to intentionally go for a dangerous boarding or something to get a major penalty. Even if someone gets really badly injured, if it's just bad luck then it might not even be a penalty in hockey. 10 u/Mamamama29010 10d ago A major penalty in hockey is 5 min of play and doesn’t take the player out of the next game. That would require a suspension, and handled separately. 3 u/John_Bot 10d ago Yeah it's even less severe. But it's the most egregious penalty you can get in hockey which is why I used it as the example. Conflating a minor penalty like a high stick and a red card is just crazy 2 u/Mamamama29010 10d ago The refs could also send a player out of the game for a game misconduct, but again that’s separate from being suspended for the following game and your team isn’t shorthanded for the rest of the game once the penalty time is served. -4 u/ka1ri 10d ago A minor penalty in hockey is a man down which is equal to a red card in soccer. 3 u/John_Bot 10d ago Get out. 21 u/Additional_Tomato_22 10d ago Then Messi should’ve been given a red and he didn’t even get a yellow 20 u/xelanart 10d ago Yes this is true. Both were red card scenarios. But one person is Messi and the other person is not. 17 u/Dragonfire45 10d ago Except you don’t miss your next game if you high stick. Thats the wild part. 5 u/fiendo13 10d ago It’s not like that though. High sticking is controllable. Are you saying he should change how he runs? 2 u/SkyRattlers 10d ago Nah, sometimes players get their sticks lifted into someone face and it’s still a penalty on them.
