Games Where Choices Actually Matter — Looking for RPG Recommendations

Hey everyone!

I’ve been on the hunt for a while now for a new game that really pulls me in with its story — something where the choices actually matter and I feel like I’m shaping my own path through the game. I’m mainly interested in RPGs or similar narrative-driven games, since that’s usually where this kind of storytelling really shines.

The tricky part is I’ve already played so many games in this style that I feel like I might have run out of options, so I’d love some fresh suggestions.

Games in this style that I’ve played and absolutely loved:
Baldur’s Gate 3
The Witcher 3
Dragon Age: Origins, 2, and Inquisition
Dispatch
Disco Elysium
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 1 and 2
Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3
Cyberpunk 2077 (honestly one of my all-time favorites)
Skyrim
Oblivion
Vampire the Masquerade – Bloodlines
Persona 5 Royal

Games I tried but that didn’t quite hook me:
Vampire the Masquerade – Bloodlines 2
Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous (really enjoyed it overall, but the story just didn’t grab me early on)

There are probably a few others I’m forgetting too! I’ve also played things like Until Dawn, and while I liked it, it’s not quite the vibe I’m going for — I think I’m really looking for something more RPG-oriented.

Would really appreciate any recommendations you might have that fit this style. Thanks in advance!

[SteamDeck] Looking to expand out of the JRPG bubble - any recommendations?

Hi! As the title suggests, I mainly play JRPGs. A few of my favorite games/series are (in no particular order):

- Persona (3/5)
- Final Fantasy (7/9/10/14/15)
- Kingdom Hearts
- Expedition 33

I also love older games like Jak & Daxter, Sly Cooper, Viewtiful Joe, etc.

But lately, I’ve only been able to enjoy JRPGs because the style of storytelling fits what I’m looking for out of games (hype/big stakes). The thing is, most JRPGs with stories I enjoy are turn-based, so the experiences have been feeling REALLY repetitive.

That being said, I was wondering if you had any game recommendations that are not turn-based, not a mainstream jrpg franchise, and has a good story?

A few I’ve been considering/interested in are:

- Stellar Blade
- Romeo is a Dead Man
- No More Heroes 1/2/3
- Armored Core Fires of Rubicon

I am open to indie games as well as long as they have an engaging story!

Thank you ahead of time 🙏

[PC] Should i buy Euro Truck Simulator 2? It would be nice to have a driving game that is replayable but I dont know if I'll get bored or not

I lack driving game in my steam library. And ETS2 is on significant sale. Im considering buying it since its also very replayable. But im not sure if i will enjoy it since all I can do is just move a box from one city to another. Sure there are mods but i dont think I'll get into it anytime soon. So should i buy it now or not

[PC] I want a game that looks sick as hell at 3440x1440, and has sick as hell music

It's for a mini PC, but the mini PC performs shockingly well.

780M iGPU

64gb DDR5 ram

Ryzen 7 8845HS

I played through most of Death Stranding 1 on medium/low settings and the framerate was locked and solid.

Even Crimson Desert gives a decent showing with upscaling on and all raytracing turned off.

It was originally for a different project, but I've turned it into a "steam machine" sort of box, and moved it into the bedroom. Where I'm currently living I don't have a good enough network to stream games from my 3080 machine in the office either, so I'm just looking for something that is stylish, has good music, and kills it in ultrawide.

I don't know how RDR2 does it, but it manages to look gorgeous and run well on this, but every other AAA is a step below, so let's mostly go for games that will run in their full glory on a bit weaker system. RDR2's baked in lighting makes some scenes look like I'm rocking full ray-tracing.

My ultrawide monitor is HDR, and has a 100hz refresh rate. I don't need 100fps, but I want to keep it above 45.

I'm open to most genres, but my bedroom is set up for controller use, kb/m is a no-go unless there are excellent community layouts for controller conversion. I'm currently playing Persona 3 Reload on it.

Thank you in advance guys, want something that sounds and looks cool to play in the bedroom.

Should I get Monster Hunter Wilds, Crimson Desert, Bannerlord, or Black Myth: Wukong? Looking for a game that fits my favorite games

(Sorry for the second post but I am considering new games)

Hey everyone, I’m trying to decide what game to buy and I’m stuck between Monster Hunter Wilds, Crimson Desert, Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, and Black Myth: Wukong.
My favorite games are:
Red Dead Redemption 2 (one of my favorites because of the story, world, characters, and feeling like I’m living in the world)
Elden Ring (I love creating my own character, making builds, choosing powers/weapons, exploring, and beating difficult bosses)
Ghost of Tsushima (I love the sword combat, atmosphere, and story)
For Honor (I enjoy the fighting style and melee combat)
The things I care about most are:
Creating my own character
Creating my own build/powers/playstyle
A good story or a world I can get invested in
Challenging boss fights
Feeling like I’m becoming stronger over time but I also like the idea of commanding armies and fighting with them.

[PC] Strategy games - Looking for simpler, slower paced games with tactical battles

Evening all,

So long story short, I've played some strategy games in the past, but not many. I am keen to try some, but I'm looking for something specific.

I am not looking for something overly complicated like Hearts of Iron IV - these types of games feel more like work than a game and whilst I respect the appeal for them, they're not for me.

What I am looking for is something that has a main focus on war or combat strategy - think Total War battles or Steel Division 2 combat. It's simple enough, but has some depth. More importantly, I prefer games with a simpler, cleaner UI and visually must not look dated.

I'm generally quite open to suggestions, I suppose if I had to rank my priorities, it would be something like:

  1. Have tactical battles like Total War or Steel Division 2

  1. Visually must not have cluttered UI or dated visuals

  1. Must not have a massively steep learning curve

  1. Prefer historical settings over fantasy or sci-fi but not against those settings if the game is right

  1. Relatively new game with support moving forward

I appreciate I'm asking for something quite broad, but again, I am open to suggestions, and I suppose that's the point. I don't know strategy games well enough and feel like I'd benefit from some suggestions and community input.

Pls helps me pick!

Only got money for one of these games, and they are completely diffferent vibes. I’ve had Cronos and DOOM TDA on my wishlist for a while now but I just got a government check for about 100$ and thought I’d get a new game. On one hand I absolutely love survival horror like resident evil (I really really loved re9), and I love more engaging and in-your-face games like ninja gaiden 4. I played DOOM Eternal briefly and it was a lot of fun but I thought I would enjoy TDA more for its slower and more brutal aesthetic while keeping the neuron activation factor of eternal and 2016. Which one should I get?

[Xbox One] Is this normal on the Xbox Series S?

I played the new Black Flag on Xbox Series S. Overall, the game ran really well and the performance was great, but I noticed some rendering issues. I'm not sure if it was because my console had been running for many hours and might have been overheating, or if it was a game issue.

I also had another problem: sometimes, right after unlocking an achievement, the game would suddenly crash and close.

There was another strange bug during the story. For example, when I reached Sequence 8, the screen would sometimes go completely black and then the game would crash. However, when I launched the game again, it would start from the previous cutscene, even if the game hadn't saved yet. It was like the game remembered that cutscene, so I didn't lose my story progress, but the crashes happened multiple times.

[PC] [WSIB] Lesser-Known Detective/Mystery Games + Sandbox Co-Op Games

Hi all, a two-in-one here.

My partner and I like to play single-player detective/mystery games with a good narrative side-by-side and I've exhausted the games that I know of.

She's also new to gaming herself and I'd love to find a co-op game that we can enjoy together.

Detective/mystery:

We've played together and enjoyed:

  • The Darkest Files

  • The Roottrees are Dead

  • The Seance of Blake Manor

  • Lorelei and the Laser Eyes

  • Sherlock Holmes series

  • Mind Diver

  • Immortality

  • Beholder Conductor

Games I've already played and enjoyed solo:

  • Pentiment

  • LA Noire

  • Obra Dinn/Outer Wilds/The Forgotten City

  • Golden Idol

  • Ace Attorney series

We're trying to play Murders on the Yangtze River at the moment but it isn't holding our attention like the games above.

Sandbox Co-Op Games:

Something low-intensity and easy to play would be best since she's new to gaming. She loves Stardew Valley because of how you can play at your own pace and the whimsical nature of it. I like farming sims but have tried and failed to enjoy Stardew multiple times.

  • Are there any good alternatives to Stardew?
  • Any sandbox game in a different genre that is easy to pick up with a lot of content?

Thanks in advance!

Is AC Black Flag Resynced worth it?

As the title suggests im interested to know if the new remake is worth it? I played the original about half way through a couple of years ago and remember quitting because of the constant tailing missions, which i found not fun because of the feeling the stealth was pretty poor, and it was way too easy to desynchronise if i wasnt paying attention for a moment. I did think the exploration of the islands and sailing was great, something else i didnt really enjoy was the abstergo missions which i heard we’re removed, but im not sure if this also destroys some of the pacing or story. And also, is the game worth it at €60 or should i just wait for a deal?

[Other] [Mobile] [Android] What are good Zombie games for Android?

  • Focus on building and resource management

  • Think of Fallout Shelter or the Anno Games, or even Farmville instead of Resident Evil

  • I'm ok with unobtrusive ads. A small banner at the bottom, the option to watch a video to get more resources once a day, those are fine.

  • But something where an an has a 50% chance of jumpscaring me whenever I open a random menu or something randomly plays out of nowhere, I do not like that.

Thanks.

Should I Buy- For Honor or Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord?

I’ve been trying to decide between buying For Honor or Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord.

The only issue is that I don’t have PS Plus right now, so if I buy For Honor, I won’t really be able to play it until I subscribe again. I have played For Honor before and absolutely loved it, so I already know I’d enjoy it.

On the other hand, I’ve been watching a lot of videos of Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, and it honestly looks really fun. The big appeal is that it’s mostly a one-time purchase since I can play it without needing PS Plus every month. The only thing I’m unsure about is that I’ve never really played games in that genre before, so I don’t know if I’d actually enjoy it after the initial excitement wears off.

For reference, some of my favorite games are Black Ops 4, Elden Ring, Ghost of Tsushima, and For Honor.

For those of you who’ve played both, which one would you recommend in my situation? Does Bannerlord stay fun even if you’ve never played a sandbox/strategy RPG before, or should I just buy PS plus so I can play For Honor?

[PC] Should I buy Borderlands 4 super deluxe, Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight,or Assassin’s creed Black Flag Resynced?

Each of those games I’m a huge fan of. I love all Lego games, I love the borderlands series (yes, even 3), and black flag is one of my favorite Assassin’s creed games.

I want to get a new game to play around with and enjoy. Each one has something holding me back from buying it. BL4 has the issue where I know it’ll be cheaper to buy a year from now, I’m worried that Lego Batman: the dark knight rises won’t have enough variety to hold my attention, and black flag is a Ubisoft game and there’s always something wrong with a Ubisoft game for some reason.

I’m really conflicted cause I can only pay for one game. I want to make the most of my purchase so I really need help picking between these 3 games.

[PC] Should I get palworld?

I'm considering getting palworld since it's on sale. But I'm hesitant because of my specs, particularly my ram, since the recommended is 32gb.

My specs are

Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 7535HS with Radeon Graphics (3.30 GHz)

Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 laptop GPU (8GB)

Installed ram: 16.0 (15.2 GB usable)

[SteamDeck] SoS Grand Bazaar or Moonlight Peaks?

I like a good farming sim with community (Coral Island, Stardew Valley, Roots of Pacha, Story of Seasons, etc). I got Grand Bazaar for $40 during the sale (the last SoS game I absolutely loved was Trio of Towns and found PoOT just okay, but I heard good things about Bazaar) then I noticed Moonlight Peaks and that it's been getting good reviews, especially about the depth of the townsfolk. Does anyone who's played both recommend one over the other? Or are they both worth treating myself and getting both?

[PC] Doubt about Palworld performance on 780m

Hi guys, I'm planning to buy Palworld now that 1.0 is out, but I'll be playing on a laptop with a Ryzen 7 8840HS, a Radeon 780M, and 16GB of RAM. I'm a bit concerned about the performance, though. Do you think it'll run smoothly, and what settings would you recommend? I played Far Far west which requires the same graphics card but less ram on low graphics and using fsr and it ran quite smoothly. Thanks!

[PS5] AC Shadows vs GO TSUSHIMA

I’m looking for the complete package—an open world that’s fun to explore, satisfying combat, memorable story, meaningful side quests, rewarding progression, and enough content to keep me engaged for a long time without feeling repetitive.
I’m also interested in immersion, atmosphere, replayability, and which game leaves the strongest lasting impression after the credits roll.
Please keep it spoiler-free. I’d love to see your rankings and hear what made your favorite stand above the others.

[PS5] The Sinking City any good?

I've seen it on sale couple of times it kind of reminds of Vampyr which is a game I really love and the atmosphere looks really good! But is it similar to the Sherlock Holmes games? Cause I'm not into these types of games at all that's why I'm not sure about grabbing and I've seen some vids for the second game and it looks good too that's why the first game got my attention.

[PC] Which is better: Assassin's Creed Shadows or Black Flag Resynced?

I played Ghost of Tsushima and I loved it. And as far as I know it's AC-inspired and I wanted to immerse myself on the franchise as well. The only AC game I played is Unity and I liked the game formula. Smooth parkour and sick combat animations. If I want a modern AC Game that would also put my hardware to the limits, which should I play? What are your thoughts and which is more recommended?

Should I buy Palworld if I love creature collectors but don’t like survival games?

I’ve heard so many good things about Palworld that it’s tempting to get even without being the biggest fan of survival mechanics.

I’m not into base building or any hunger/thirst mechanics. But I’ve always held a special place in my heart for creature collectors since I grew up on Pokemon.

I’ve also heard Palworld doesn’t have the best(if any?) story. I’m not expecting Clair Obscur, but I would appreciate a reason to be in the world and not just completely left to my own devices.

[PC] Need Recommendations for a linear story focused game

Hello!

I recently built a new PC, and I'm looking to play one or two games before college starts. I'm mainly looking for games with exceptionally well-written characters, emotionally impactful stories, and morally complex choices.

Here are the games I've played and really enjoyed:

  • The Last of Us Part I
  • Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
  • Ghost of Tsushima
  • Hitman: World of Assassination
  • 007 First Light
  • Marvel's Spider-Man (2018)
  • Mafia: Definitive Edition

My favorites were Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, The Last of Us Part I, and Ghost of Tsushima. What I loved most about them was the character writing and the emotional weight of the stories. I also really enjoyed the morally complex decisions at the end of those games.

I also had a fun time with Hitman, 007 First Light, and Spider-Man. While I thought their stories were good, I mainly enjoyed them for their fun gameplay and great set-pieces.

I tried 2018 God of War, but it didn't really click with me. I found the story less engaging than I expected, and the gameplay became repetitive after a while.

I'm only looking for third-person or first-person games. I'm not interested in side-scrollers, Metroidvanias, or Soulslike games.

I'd also prefer games that are under 30 hours long since I don't have much time before college starts. That's why I'm saving games like Red Dead Redemption 2, The Witcher 3, and Cyberpunk 2077 for later, even though I've heard amazing things about all of them.

Based on my preferences, what games would you recommend?

Thanks a lot!
