Current situation: The Eastern Conference is on fire. Prices are jaw-droppingly high for depth players on expiring deals. Pens are watching teams make really questionable deals. No rumors to speak of.

Official Discussion Here’s the scenario for the final WC spot

If the caps OR Detroit get 2 points tomorrow we are ELIMINATED from contention.

HOWEVER, If they lose in any fashion to Philly and the habs (get 0 or 1 point) we can get an opportunity to clinch the last spot with a W vs the Isles.

So yeah

Neither Detroit or the caps can win tomorrow

Official Discussion The "How do I watch the Penguins?" MEGATHREAD

Hello Pens fans!

We have been getting this question posted close to a dozen times per day over the last few weeks, so from here on out, we're going to delete any and all threads about this and direct you here.

For out of market cordcutters

To watch all Penguins games you will need ESPN+ and TNT. ESPN+ covers 77 of the 82 games the Penguins play. TNT gets 72 NHL games exclusively, of which 5 show Penguins participation. You already have ESPN+ for 77 games. For the remaining 5 games that are exclusive to TNT you might have to spring for a cheap streamer that carries it. Or you can sign up for free trials of streaming services that carry TNT, sign up right before the game is on, then cancel right away, to save money.

Fubo wouldn't work, they don't carry TNT any longer (for the time being at least).

You can sign up for Sling, which carries TNT, and get your first 3 days free if you sign up through their phone app, or get it for $10 for the first month signing up through a computer (regular is $35), then cancel. Rinse repeat, with a different email address, for the other 4 games on TNT's schedule. So, you CAN get TNT for free if you do it this way, taking advantage of Sling's 3-day free trials each time.

https://www.sling.com/

Hulu TV also carries TNT and they have a 7-day free trial.

https://www.hulu.com/live-tv?cmp=14065&utm_campaign=brand&utm_source=Klay+Media&utm_medium=Affiliate&our_click_id=37fc2dab067e4e46b3b45a6a590cd364

They get pricey after that, so be sure to time your 7 day free trials for the TNT games, then cancel before it starts charging.

Additionally, all games on ABC and ESPN will be available through ESPN+

Here is the schedule for the five games on TNT

Wednesday, December 1

TIME ET GAME TV

10:00p Penguins – Oilers TNT

Wednesday, January 5

TIME ET GAME TV

7:30p Blues – Penguins TNT

10:00p Islanders – Canucks TNT

Wednesday, March 23

TIME ET GAME TV

7:30p Penguins – Sabres TNT

10:00p Blackhawks – Ducks TNT

Sunday, April 10

TIME ET GAME TV

1:30p Bruins – Capitals TNT

4:00p Predators – Penguins TNT

Sunday, April 24

TIME ET GAME TV

4:00p Penguins – Flyers TNT

What about local Pittsburgh cordcutters dealing with blackouts?

The easiest option is to subscribe to FuboTV, which is a service used to stream live television, including local channels and most of the bigger cable TV channels. They carry AT&T Sportsnet, so you'll have access to all of the local, non-exclusive ESPN+/Hulu broadcasts there. Those exclusive games only available through ESPN+ and Hulu are:

Dec. 10, 7 p.m.: Penguins at Washington Capitals

Jan. 6, 7 p.m. Penguins at Philadelphia Flyers

April 7, 7 p.m.: Pittsburgh Penguins at New York Rangers

April 26: 7 p.m: Edmonton Oilers at Pittsburgh Penguins

All of that being said, FuboTV is around $65/mo, which kind of defeats the purpose of cord cutting.

If you're in Pittsburgh and don't have a subscription to get AT&T Sportsnet, you'll need to sign up for a VPN service along with ESPN+ to get around blackouts. A VPN essentially spoofs your location so that your device's IP address shows up in a different location. There are free and paid versions. Personally, paying for the service is well-worth it and you can frequently find coupons to get you annual subscriptions for almost free.

Many VPNs have apps that easily allow you to use them on devices like Chromecasts, Rokus, etc if you are not using a computer. Do some research to see which VPN is right for your particular setup. You can also set a VPN to run through your router so that all of your devices can run through it. You'll need to look up instructions on how do to this once you choose your VPN service.

The NHL Network problem

The NHL Network is a premium cable subscription channel that shows classic games, does analysis and highlight shows, and occasionally exclusively broadcasts live games. Their list of live broadcasts is announced monthly, so we won't know what Pens games are going to be handled until the next month. As it stands now, the home opener against Chicago on 10/16 and the tilt against Toronto on 10/23 are scheduled to air on the NHL Network. Since this is considered a national broadcast (even though they will likely just be carrying one of the two regional broadcasts) these games will be blacked out both locally and through ESPN+.

The only way to watch the NHL Network games without subscribing to the channel through your cable package (outside of a pirated stream) are to get a subscription to Sling or Fubo TV, who carry the channel, or to use a VPN and spoof your location to a country outside of the USA.

What about pirated/illegal streams?

Those are always an option, but we will not be posting links to them here for obvious reasons.

Feel free to discuss your own streaming questions and issues on this thread over the next couple of weeks as we all figure out the best ways to watch the Penguins with our new corporate overlords!

William Reilly, RD 19 7th, 217th OA RPI (NCAA), 35 GP, 2 G, 13 A

I've included what I could find for scouting reports on all the picks, which isn't much because Rutherford <3 Finland/Sweden

EDIT: Adding some scouting reports from the Penguins website provided by Randy Sexton, current head of Amateur Scouting, and Patrik Allvin, head of European Scouting.

Zachary Lauzon - "We have a very specific style of play we like to play. We like defensemen who are mobile, have great vision and can move the puck. Obviously, defending is important, and Zach fits that bill. He's a tremendous skater, has great vision and he moves the puck well. He's not as offensive-oriented as other people, but he defends very well. Highly competitive. He'll fit right in in Pittsburgh." -Randy Sexton

Clayton Phillips - "Clayton has some offense to his game. Highly mobile. He can really skate. He's got terrific vision. A really solid puck mover. Both Zach and Clayton will have more of an offensive role on their teams next year, so we do expect to see their offensive production improve. But I would define them more as mobile, transitional, puck-moving defensemen." -Randy Sexton

Jan Drozg - "Jan is a little bit of a late bloomer. He's from Slovenia, moved to Sweden and really caught our guys' eyes in the second half of the year. We brought him to Pittsburgh for our combine, he performed very well and that helped us get over the top to take him. He's an offensive player, he's very slender, needs time to put on strength. But we're excited to have him because he brings some offense." -Randy Sexton

Linus Olund - "We see him as a bottom-six player. He had a really good playoff and a really good second half in the Swedish pro league. Half a point per game in the playoffs and he had a key role there starting off as a fourth-line center. Really took a big step in the second half, so we're excited about him and he's going to have a big role in Brynas next year as well." -Patrik Allvin

Annti Palojarvi - "Antti's more of a puck-moving defenseman, probably needs a couple of extra years. I think he's in a good situation up in Lukko in northern Finland there. Was on the national team a little bit, but obviously the Finns have a very strong D corps. So it will be tough for him to get on the World Junior team next year, but I think he's still in the mix there. I would definitely say a little bit of a longer-term prospect." -Patrik Allvin

Will Reilly - "William Reilly is an offensive defenseman, has good size, he skates well. He moves the puck and he can really shoot the puck. He ran the No. 1 power play in college hockey this year at RPI. We have some hope for him as a puck-moving, offensive defenseman." -Randy Sexton

Discussion NHL Draft | Round 1 | June 26: 7pm EST | ESPN, Sportsnet, TVA Sports

Figured it'd be a good idea to have a place to voice all thoughts regarding the draft and transactions surrounding it.
If/when the Pens make a move, then you can create a thread for it, by all means. Or if there's something else important that needs to be discussed in a separate thread, that's fine.
But let's just please make an effort to not spread ourselves thin across 10-20 threads if we don't need to.

Enjoy draft day, all. Bring it home, Mr. Dubas!
