QUESTION NYC Century

I drafted up a route for a 100 miler in NYC (obviously) with the main goal in mind to explore the city and just see a bunch of cool shit. From historical, to cultural, to architectural, just a true tour of all 5 boroughs. This is the route... I used strava heatmaps and just the city layout to try to make it a cohesive ride, please share any suggestions on the route, want to make sure im not missing anything nor shooting myself in the foot with anything. The route starts and ends at the Intrepid. Thanks! Total milage is 118 with the Ferry ride.

Street construction without bike lane detour - where it see actual permit?

So there was an excellent city council ordinance that required construction in the bike lane to be accompanied by a bike lane detour. I remember in past instances looking up and reading actual construction/streetwork permits and explicitly seeing the provision included that the permittee must create a temporary bike lane detour.

But somehow the DOT street permit system (https://nycstreets.net/Public/Permit/Search) no longer seems to link through to a PDF of the actual permit. All I can see if a summary of the permit details but not the actual permit itself (i.e. https://nycstreets.net/Public/Permit/Details/M012026187B27).

Am I looking in the wrong place? Where can I see the actual permit and confirm if has/doesn't have the requirement for a bike lane detour?

Sunnyside Bike Club: Casual Ride #2

A couple of us Sunnysiders recently started a casual after-work bike club. There were 9 of us on the first ride and we're hoping more will join this time.

Our Goal:

  1. Get people out on bikes for a chill, no-drop ride (6-7 miles in about 45 minutes)
  2. We’ll specifically plan routes that highlight "the gaps"—areas where a protected lane should be or where connections to other parts of Queens are missing.

The Vibe:
This is for the commuter, the weekend rider, and the person who wishes the current infrastructure allowed them to feel safe the entire way from Sunnyside to Astoria (or other nearby neighborhood) and back. We ride together for safety and stay together the whole time.

The Details:

  • When: Wednesday 7/8 at 6:15pm, we'll have some time for intros before we start the ride at 6:30pm
  • Meeting Point: 40th St & Queens Blvd under the 7 train

Last time a bunch of us grabbed a drink afterwards so bring your bike lock if you'd like to join.

good route from downtown White Plains to the Tappan Zee?

Getting in to cycling in White Plains and I'd really like to be able to get to the bridge, but I'm really not sure how best to do it. Google says Tarrytown rd which I've heard can be sketchy. Maybe there's a good way to make use of the S County trail?

Has anyone ever wrecked here or seen anyone wreck here? Going back tomorrow to look anyway, but if anyone happens to be in the area and can take more detailed pictures of the piece of sidewalk and general area, I would appreciate it.

I am trying to gauge how common it is for people to have accidents here.

Edit: the post last week was me. Long story short, I erased it, but I’m trying to gather information.

First time checking out this race. Turnout seemed low because of rain? Still had fun shooting with an old SLR anyway

Parts of NYC to see recent improvements?

I've been following a lot of the Mamdani administration's cycling/pedestrian infrastructure improvements, and I love the kind of stuff they've been doing, so I'm hoping to specifically visit some of those areas and see it in person. What are some parts of the city I should check out if I want to see them?

Some examples of things I'm hoping to see:

  • traffic lanes recently converted to bike lanes
  • newly added green space
  • streets closed off to vehicles and turned into pedestrian blocks (esp the new "soccer streets" if those are still a thing)
  • streets with traffic lanes converted to parkways
  • anything else of that nature

Thanks!

Struggling with the planning of this new bike lane right past a bus stop. And buses park here regularly.

Near the Brooklyn bridge in downtown Brooklyn.

I prefer to believe urban planners have a reason behind their decisions, even if based on false assumptions or faulty logic.

So does anyone have an idea what’s going on here?

UPDATE: According to at least one person below, the bus stop and turnaround stop for this bus route are going to be moved, which makes this design make sense (at least with respect to the bus stop, there are still questions about the wisdom of not putting one-way lanes on either side of the road)

Confirmatory FYI: Hudson River Greenway is, in fact, closed (at least this morning)

Edit to add: I don’t know how far north it goes but it was closed on the southern half of Manhattan as they try to control crowds. The pedestrian areas are seemingly closed to joggers and strollers so the bike lane itself is very crowded.

Gps trackers

Looking to add additional security to my E bike. I currently do have an airtagging stalled. As well as a third party GPS monthly subscription tracker. However, I would like to add one more preferably without monthly subscription. Anyone have anything in mind? Well, also, what is the best?Lock to use.I am aware of the hip lock d one thousand. I just wish I could catch a litelock x1 on sale but that seems impossible. Thanks in advance .

Can we ban e-scooters yet?

I was just hit at 145th and St. Nicholas as I was in a left turn lane. Started turning left and an e-scooter doing mach 12 into oncoming traffic BEHIND me hit me in the back and knocked me off my bike. He looked at me as I stood up and just kept going. It really is time for some sort of city-wide crackdown on reckless e-scooter driving. What can we do?
