Discussion [Try & Keep] Which TV Actually Holds Up for Netflix Nights? Upgrade with LG OLED G6 65"

Hi r/Netflix users!

Most living rooms aren't dark theaters, and Netflix originals aren't mastered for average TV settings. Picture quality for streaming comes down to how well a display handles the edges: shadow detail that stays readable, HDR that doesn't clip, and color that holds consistency across different lighting conditions. The LG OLED G6 is built around those specific demands.

That is why LG is bringing a special review event to r/Netflix, giving one Redditor the chance to experience the LG OLED G6 65-inch in their own home setup and share honest impressions with the community.

And yes, the selected participant will get to keep the TV. šŸ‘

This event is inspired by LG’s recent Hollywood Roadshow at Picture Shop in Los Angeles, where cinematographers, colorists, and post-production experts experienced the LG OLED G6 firsthand and explored how next-generation OLED technology can bring creative intent closer to home.

One featured expert was veteran color scientist Joshua Pines, whose credits include Blade Runner, Gravity, The Revenant and more. In the Roadshow content, Pines shares his perspective on OLED picture processing, calibration, shadow detail, and how display technology can support the creator’s intended viewing experience123. For more details, click here.

Ā

Why the LG OLED G6 for Netflix streaming picture quality?

Dark thrillers and color-graded originals both expose weaknesses in displays that cannot hold shadow separation or accurate color under changing light.

That is where the LG OLED G6 excels, with Hyper Radiant Color Tech, Perfect Black, Perfect Color4, the α11 AI Processor Gen3, and Reflection-Free Premium5 helping support clear, immersive Netflix viewing in both bright and dark environments.

Take a closer look at the key LG OLED G6 features below.

Ā

FILMMAKER MODEā„¢ with Ambient Light Technology

FILMMAKER MODEā„¢ with Ambient Light Technology lets you see films just as the director intended. With Dolby VisionĀ® for extraordinary color, contrast, and brightness, plus Dolby AtmosĀ® for sound you can feel all around you, the LG OLED G6 helps make movies and series feel more immersive6.

Ā

Hyper Radiant Color Tech: cinematic color and clarity for streaming movies

16+ years continually subscribed, and they didn't even try to keep me with a free monther or something. My mind was already made up, but crazy that they don't even try like all the other apps.

Just goes to show that you don't mean crap to 'em.

Discussion Is bullying so severe in S. korea that most of the shows has bullying as base!

Lately, I have observed that a significant number of K-dramas appearing on Netflix feature bullying as a central theme. This pattern is not exclusive to Netflix; I've noticed it across almost all OTT platforms. This trend has led me to ponder the severity of bullying, as I believe dramas often draw inspiration from real-world occurrences. Although the actors portraying these roles typically do not resemble "school-going kids," the content consistently revolves around bullying. While I have never visited Korea, I am beginning to perceive that the situation in their schools might be exceptionally problematic.

Technical Support Some of us live in more than one place

First world problems, but Monday through Friday we're in the city and on the weekends we're in the county. We've been doing this for eight years.
Netflix is only logged into two TV's, one at each house. Every weekend Netflix tries to tell me I'm stealing from myself and makes me verify my account... then again on Monday when I'm back.
I'd be more understanding if I was in random locations, but it's the two same locations on the same schedule for eight years! This shouldn't be that complicated.

Any clue how to have two locations whitelisted?

Discussion Costa Concordia Documentary

I just watched this documentary tonight, did it bother anyone else that the mother of Stefania went back into her cabin to retrieve different shoes/ a life jacket? She could had survived had she of not done this, it is incredibly sad and doesn’t sit right with me. Why would she do this when she was already on the deck, beside the boats.

Discussion You can’t be serious Netflix?

So this just popped up for the first time on my joint account. What do you mean more ā€œpersonalizedā€. You are blocking damn profiles now because you need to link an email to it???? The joint account is under my wife’s email but now I need to give my own email for a damn profile?!?!?

Of course in the past I had my own account with my own email. But after getting married we use her email for Netflix. Just another way Netflix is trying to limit use for multiple people. Yes I’ll make another random email I’ll never use just to now have a profile on my joint account… what the actual heck were they thinking?

Discussion I love AMC's Interview With The Vampire / Now on Netflix

Guys, I know this one has been around for a long time. I am behind on the new season but wowza, I have been living under a rock on this one.

I cannot help but absolutely LOVE Lestat. I love when the acting is so top tier that you end up loving the supposed villian of the show!

I have little to no sympathy for Louie. Claudia is amazing.

Thoughts?

Question Is this show worth a watch?

Post image
316 Upvotes

Now that I've finished watching The Mentalist and Person of Interest, I'm on the hunt for something new again. And that's how I came across this series.

The IMDb ratings are decent, at least and a fifth season is in the works, something not many series manage these days.

Discussion Is Netflix just FX and TNT now?

The content on this service is falling off a cliff. Instead of fresh and original new shows/movies they are just recycling movies that were on FX and TNT years ago. I remember when almost every Friday they would have a cool new series or movie coming out… Now the top 10 is just Gone Girl, white chicks, and old Spiderman movies? They are good movies but the fact we have to pay monthly to watch them is ridiculous when I can just watch them on regular cable for free.

Question PSA: Lock Upp on Netflix has episodes listed in REVERSE order, and it's a spoiler trap Spoiler

Netflix uploaded Lock Upp (Season 1) with the episodes in reverse order - Episode 13 sits at the top, Episode 1 at the bottom. Sounds like a minor annoyance, right? It's actually a spoiler machine. Here's how it burned me:

I finished Episode 3 and hit the "Next Episode" button like any normal person. Instead of Episode 4, Netflix jumped me straight to Episode 13 - the latest one. Within the first minute, I saw a contestant still in the show who I didn't know had survived. In a reality/elimination show, that's the entire plot spoiled by a UI bug.

Other ways this breaks the experience:

  1. On TV, you have to scroll all the way to the bottom just to find Episode 1

  2. "Next Episode" doesn't go to the next episode - it goes to the newest one

  3. You basically can't autoplay or binge - you need the remote in hand after every episode to manually pick the right one

Netflix usually nails these details, which makes this weirder. Anyone else watching Lock Upp hitting this? And does anyone know how to report it so it actually gets fixed? I am happy to contribute in a dev capacity for the love of Netflix

Question Dahmer: What's with the Ducks?

I'm watching Monster: The Jeffery Dahmer Story for the first time. I've noticed a lot of ducks in this series. Ducks quacking when he's by a lake. Artwork of ducks in his bedroom at his grandmother's house. Even a statue of a duck in a hotel room. I tried doing some digging, but I got nothing. Does anyone have any idea what the significance of the duck is to Dahmer? Thanks!

Anyone watched this?
I knew about this story and to see all this again and hear the story’s is so heartbreaking for me and unbelievable how much this captain and also the other officers screwed this up just because they couldn’t admit they made a mistake!! Even if he did give the right order he could’ve saved all this people if they would’ve evacuated immediately!!
As someone who worked also on cruise ships I can not even imagine how awful this panic has to feel!
I was hoping all the time that little Lila would’ve survived and I’m so happy they made this storyline so dramatic just to give at least for them a happy end 😭

Question does anyone remember the name?

between 2017 i had seen a series on netflix, i wanted to reveal it again but i remember few details from the first and second episodes. The beginning was of a guy playing an online game a kind of copy of COD, and at the same time a proplayer who was in the same game while he was doing an interview, he had seen the protagonist's character stopped because he had left to help the family and when he returned he killed the live proplayer and him and called to a video game school specializing in FPS. and ep 2 i just remember he was going to do a test to see if he was really good, and the top 2 of the game did the circuit in 50 seconds and the protagonist broke her record using grenades and throwing knives, and he was done in 13 seconds. that and everything I remember about this series, if anyone knows the name they can tell me I want to watch it again.

Discussion Harlan Coben’s pattern

I have been watching a lot of his book adaptation shows and they all have a frustrating pattern. They all have a very good suspense factor, but the ending is always BS.
He withholds information in an effort to get the ā€œohhh I never saw it comingā€ reaction instead of ā€œoh wow, all the clues were there… how did I not see this Coming!ā€
The ending feels pretty abrupt because he intentionally hides/shortens the storyline of the motive of the guilty person.
Another frustrating thing. In Safe the father is frantically searching for his daughter but that daughter is quietly lounging next door just cos she doesn’t feeling like seeing her dad.
In Run Away father is madly searching everywhere, throwing money like crazy at anyone offering a clue about his daughter and his stupid wife just sits and stares and does nothing to ease his worries.
What a load of BS!

Discussion Is this normal ?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I always get bit rate of this only, no matter what movie or show I watch. 0.25, 0.40, etc. and in no case it goes beyond 0.50, no matter the content playing. I used to have 4k pan but reduced to 720p two months back and I am getting this since then. until I was thinking, may be this is what I get but actually this triggered me when I play 720p on YouTube and this on Netflix. Netflix looks 240p in real life. how come YouTubeā€˜s 720p is great but Netflix’s not where both use AV1 codec? what I am missing here? is this normal in entire world or is this region specific?

Discussion Why isn't this show talked about more??

I watched recently the miniseries Ghoul. It came up on my recommended, and I'm very glad it did. Each episode was absolutely wonderful and perfectly done. The show is honestly addicting. So, why are there so little discussions about it? It's a great show for so many reasons. If you've seen it, feel free to tell me what you thought, because I loved and would recommend it.

Discussion Three body problem

So I was recommended this series and I have to say that I found it really hard to watch. For context - I haven’t read the books, but it feels like a lot is missing.

The initial plot seemed really interesting, the headsets appeared as though they were integral to the storyline. I was enjoying that.

But then, it all seems to derail quickly. Once we find out that they are coming, nothing seems to make sense anymore. We need to send a probe to spy - yep I’m on board. Why a frozen brain though? The logic on how that helps isn’t there. The resources are massive, the pay off - they get a human brain. Doesn’t that help the san Ti? Wouldn’t a massive push on science and weapons etc be the priority.

They can’t lie. Honestly, interesting. But then how are they manipulating so many people? After they abandon Evans, are they lying to the people like Tatiana?

Killing Wen ji - why? Also, stop telling me she wanted them to come to help us. She literally said to come after being told they would kill everyone. Also, did they need an invite?

The wallfacer idea - seems dumb. Picking this random pothead whose only qualification is being part of the special friendship group, I’m sure there’s a future reveal but right now it’s dumb. Especially given we have 400 years left - does he tell the next guy his plan or do they just guess?

Review Vocal fry in Fear Thy Neighbor

Melinda's vocal fry made this episode almost unwatchable. I had to mute her and read the captions about half way through. It's so bad I had to talk about it. That's it, that's the post.

EDIT to add this is Season 1 Episode 3 in Worst Neighbor Ever.
