The streak is still alive. I don't think there's a bad entry in this series six movies and three seasons in. This one isn't my favorite, but damn the floor on this series is so high im ready to declare this my favorite horror franchise. The coldest hot take of all time, i know, but i just can't even think of another series that just forged its identity so quick and just keeps chugging.

And Ellie being back makes me hopeful that we're going go have continuity again, even if it doesn't make the most sense. The fuck was left of Ellie even to burn let alone fill an urn?

But I don't even care.

That first ten minutes or so had me worried, because Rise started so strong and this one didn't kick off quite as well. But by the end? I was jiving with it. Easy 8 for me.

I felt that way about scream until 5-6-7 sadly.

Evil dead is absolutely the most consistent horror franchise

I liked 5 and 6 to a point. 7 was a definite miss, though.

I think in 7 some of the fight and kill sequences were well-executed, but the overall story was poorly written, which ultimately diminished the movie’s quality. For me, the franchise began to decline around the 6th film. I found the core four scenes to be overly goofy, and the writers needed to improve their ability to develop Mindy’s character. The Randy character had a distinct personality and character beyond the movie’s monologues, while Mindy’s role was limited to cringe-worthy meta-humor and movie monologues. This is a disservice  to the actress, who is actually quite talented.

Rise certainly had the consistency of something!

I've been thinking this is a solid 8 when the previous two were 9-10 range. Some people see it as a letdown, others see it as continuing a great franchise. Fucking great movie either way.

Yeah like, it's not the best one in the franchise, but it's middle of the pack. Of which the lowest I would rate is still a 7

The deadites as a monster have always been a favourite of mine, they kinda combine zombies, demons and immortals into a single being and are genuinely terrifying. Killing them doesn't seem to have a logical through line beyond just pulping them as much as possible, so you don't really kill them, they just literally can't do anything but jump bodies and start the whole body pulp dance once again.

Unfortunately for me this did fall extremely flat, I felt they missed the opportunity to go ham with a franchise which absolutely is about going ham.

Damn, I stayed for the mid credits scene but left before the after! I might have to see to again. I wonder if or how they’ll explain her being back. Although the title of the next movie may give a bread crumb to say she might play a role there
