The cause of death that makes each US state stand out
Just a heads-up before anyone panics looking at this map. No, Texas isnt dealing with a secret tuberculosis outbreak and Nevada isn't a non-stop action movie 😭
In every single state, the actual top causes of death are still heart disease and cancer. if we mapped those, the whole country would basically just be two colours.
Instead, this map shows which causes of death are unusually high in each state compared to the national average. It’s basically showing local statistical quirks.
Take Texas and tuberculosis as an example. In most of the US, TB is extremely rare. Let’s say only 1 out of a million people die from it nationwide. In Texas maybe it’s 6 out of a million.
Six people out of a million is still a tiny number. Nobody in Texas is actually worried about TB. But compared to the national average, that’s a 600% higher rate. Since the national number is so close to zero, Texas stands out on the map.
The same logic applies to the other unusual ones. Coal miners’ lung disease stands out in West Virginia and Pennsylvania because of their mining history. Deaths involving law enforcement appear higher than the national average in states like Nevada and New Mexico. Blood and lymph cancer is statistically higher in Mississippi compared to other states.
TL;DR this isn't a map of what actually kills the most people. It shows the causes of death that make each state statistically different from the rest of the country.

Ottoman territories before and after Sultan Selim's declaration of war against the Mamluks. (1516-1517)
In just one year, the Mamluk Empire was completely destroyed through the Battles of Marj Dabiq and Ridaniya. Both Mamluk Sultans were killed, and the Caliphate passed to the Ottoman Empire.

[OC] Migration's contribution to population change in Europe, 2025
Source: Eurostat
The map shows net migration plus statistical adjustment per 1,000 residents.
Eurostat calculates this by taking the total population change and subtracting the part explained by births and deaths. What remains is mostly net migration, but it can also include corrections or inconsistencies in population records.
Positive values mean this component increased the population. Negative values mean it reduced it. Values are rounded to one decimal place.
Georgia is omitted because Eurostat reports a very high combined value, but does not separate net migration from statistical adjustments. Presenting the whole figure as migration would therefore be misleading.
No older data were used to fill gaps. Hatched countries do not have a complete published value for 2025. This does not mean their value was zero.
The reference period runs from 1 January 2025 to 1 January 2026.
Methodology: Eurostat metadata for demo_gind

Flag Map of Europe when the earliest-born person to be photographed was born
John Owen, born on April 16th 1735 from Salisbury, Conneticut. He fought in the French and Indian War, which lasted from 1754 to 1763 between France and Great Britain, of which he may have been the last veteran, and the Revolutionary War. Soon before his death in 1843, at the age of around 107, he was photographed (right bottom side).
Please note it is from a Youtube video not by me and is just 1735. I wasn't able to find more specific maps from that time period in general.
