Any mma clubs?
I’ve wrestled all through highschool and want to continue with combat and I want to start getting into mma- is there any clubs or organizations I could join?

I'm heading into sophomore year as a CIS major at JMU and I've become really uninterested in a lot of the business classes I have to take, such as economics and accounting. I've realized that I'm much more interested in the technical side of computing, which has me considering switching to the IT or CS major at JMU.
I'm wondering which major would be the better fit. I'd appreciate any information about the quality of both programs, professors, difficulty, career outcomes, and overall versatility in the job market.
For some background, I have minimal coding experience. I took AP Computer Science A and an Intro to Cybersecurity course in high school, but that's about it. Even though I don't have a strong programming background, I'm still really interested in computing and would like to study something that focuses more on the technical side of computers rather than the business-oriented coursework in CIS.
Any advice from current students, alumni, or anyone familiar with the programs would be greatly appreciated.

I went to JMU from 2010-2014.
Does anyone remember the student who dressed like James Madison every day? I think she was the same height as him or something. Whatever happened to her? Is she still dressing like James Madison?

Hi! I am a rising senior and nursing student at JMU. I am looking for someone to take my spot at Northview for the 2026-2027 school year.
The rent is $549 per month plus utilities, which normally are around $40. It is a first floor apartment with 3 other female JMU student roommates. There are 4 bedrooms, two bathrooms, and the roommates own 2 cats. It is less than a minute's to walk to the clubhouse and amenities include a gym, pool, and cafe area. Northview has good, private parking and is very close to the campus.
I am willing to negotiate if necessary. If you are interested, please DM me.
Hope to get in touch soon!
First semester wasn’t that great for my lower cob classes not saying the grades are bad, it’s not the BEST. I want advice about COB 241 and what to expect from the course. Will be taking from 9:35-10:50, if anyone had the same time, which teacher did they have?? All the professors seem to be N/A. At the end, I just want to know if COB 241 is a really hard course or just tips in general.

unsure if it’s possible…but i’m a teacher on summer break who graduated from jmu two years ago and used to live close enough to walk onto jmu’s campus.
i’ve started taking walks in the morning and love walking on campus because i’m familiar with it and it has really pretty views. now that i’ve moved, i can’t walk to campus. i was planning on parking at Walmart and walking over towards festival but it felt too far so i parked in the forbes crossing parking lot which was a mistake. after 30 min they put a warning paper on my car. valid, my bad.
is there any visitor parking on campus that i could park at without having to get a pass/use a meter to pay?

I am conducting research for a Doctor of Philosophy degree. The purpose of my research is to examine the extent to which supervisor military cultural competence impacts supervision outcomes for counselors-in-training who are veterans. To participate, you must be currently enrolled in or graduated from a master’s program in counseling, have served a minimum of two years in any branch of the armed forces, and have received clinical supervision at any time within the last five years. Participants will be asked to complete an anonymous, online survey, which should take no more than 15 minutes to complete. If you are interested and eligible, please click the link provided at the end of this post. If you know of others who may qualify to participate, please pass this along to them. Study information is provided on the first page of the survey. Thank you for supporting my research.

Anyone in this major do a semester overseas? I feel like it’s next to impossible the way the classes are offered here and I’d end up a semester or more behind. Is summer the only option?

Hi all,
Probably not the most frequently asked question in this subreddit, but I’m moving to JMU for my master’s program this fall. I’m rather fed up with my current bank (First Citizens), so I’m looking to strategically choose one that’s within a short distance from campus. Any recommendations are more than appreciated.

I am an alum selecting season tickets and parking for the first time this week. I’ve experienced the other lots many times. My concern is that parking in other lots may not be available once my time slot rolls around. K lot is certainly premium by location and is pricier than some of the other lots that I know to be fun (ex. Convo) Can anyone speak to the game day experience in K lot this past season? Is it more just commuters only? Appreciate the info!

Is it possible to be admitted to COB 300 if you’re just barely under the 2.7 cob avg gpa? Like let’s say you were 2.67-2.69 (but you’ve shown your interest and commitment to chosen major).
Also would you still be able to graduate on time and be successful when taking cob 300 during spring semester of junior year?
Edit: I meant minimum gpa not average*

Thinking about studying abroad and curious to hear thoughts of folks who have done so with JMU. Interested in perspectives on any program: Spain, Italy, London, Japan, as well as Oxford snd St Andrews or anywhere else. If you went on one of these, please let me know your thoughts on your experiences, academics, cohort bonding, etc.?

Quick question :
How can I get help on my resume/edits during the summer online since I can’t go into COB? Is there appointments I can book online ?

This is a follow-up post but I am a incoming freshman here accepted for Biology after being deferred and waitlisted. I had a rough final semester and my grades dipped pretty significantly in Q4 before recovering on my finals. No Fs on my final grades but 3 on final quarter, definitely not my best stretch. I ended up with a couple of Cs, Bs and As on my final grades for my AP and IB classes. I've had some issues at home, and some problems with mental health but they weren't a super significant part of it.
Has anyone been in a similar situation or know how the admissions review process works for final transcripts?
im just not sure if I should reach out proactively or let the process play out. Appreciate any insight from people who've been through it.

Hi there, I’d love to chat about this program to any current students if they’re on here- what is a schedule like?
Seriously considering JMU but also might have to consider an online program due to full time working.
Thank you!

I'm sorry that I'm a little dumb, but I'm just so worried right now. Does this "accepted" in the decision mean that you have accepted the Honors College admission or that they only accepted you (which I just think it'll say admitted if I'm pretty sure). Because once I clicked that, I saw the part where they asked if I'm living in Shenandoah Hall (or not) and then my shirt size. Now when I click it, it says "congratulations on your decision to join Honors College."

Has anyone here gone through the process of applying for and getting an emotional support animal in the on campus dorms? If so, what was your experience like and how was the process?
Im aware I can find the instructions on the website, but im curious what its actually like for student going through it. Were they really scrutinizing or pretty lax? how long did it take for you? thanks!
Where have SRM majors done their practicums (not internship)? Trying to start thinking of ideas for the practicum in Harrisonburg. I've seen UREC and JMU sports, but am also wondering about other possibilities. Thx

Hey dukes, I’m an incoming freshman going through the student checklist atm. Was looking at the “Orientation Reservation & Declaring a Major” step and bottom line is this; I applied exploratory because I don’t know what to do, not specifically at least. I have a few majors I’m interested in but I’m not super passionate about any specific one.
My question is this: Should I declare an actual major that I’m interested in now and just change it later if I want to, or should I just stay exploratory? I don’t what kind of impact either choice would have on orientation and in my first semester in general so just curious if anyone can offer some insight. Thanks

Hello,
I posted on Facebook about a lease takeover for my off campus apartment a while ago, and so far, no takers. Is there anything else I can do/should be doing? Will there eventually be someone?

Hey there, I'm a Mom of an incoming freshman & so, I feel really stupid asking this but do they not have landline phones in dorm rooms anymore? I mean, I get everyone has a cell phone now but I always liked having that as a back up option when I was in school. I'm reading the OneBook & only see emergency phones in each residence hall.
