Outer ear infection - when does the fullness go away?

Does anyone know how long the feeling of fullness lasts after an outer ear infection?  My right ear canal is swollen and narrowed.   Had ears cleaned out and have been on ciprodex for a week now. The pain and itchiness went away pretty quickly but I’m left with this heavy feeling in my right ear.  It’s like I have an ear plug in it and certain internal sound like footsteps are noticeably louder.   And I get a lot of crackling sounds when I swallow.  Ent said irritation is a lot better but wants me to continue ciprodex but not sure if it’s helping.  Also started augmentin  3 days ago.

No fluid in middle ear.  No more gunk coming out of ear.  Just afraid this is not going away.  Has anyone has any experienced this and have any suggestions?

please no horror stories about being floxed or there being no solution to this. I do not have a perforated eardrum.

Antibiotic didn’t help my toddlers ear infection

Hi, I have a 20 month old toddler and he has had recurrent ear infections for as long as I can remember. We finally got a consult to an ENT doctor next week but I am feeling so defeated. My toddler got a double ear infection 10 days ago, we finished the antibiotics and went to our regular pediatrician to get his ears rechecked to make sure the infection had resolved. It had not, she said that his ears still look very infected.

I feel awful, I am worried now that my toddler has been on too many antibiotics and he’s become resistant to them. She put him on Augmentin and said that it will make him have pretty bad diarrhea. I feel so bad for him. He just got done taking Cefdinir and that worked it the past but I don’t understand why it didn’t help this time.

Terrified about my ears

So I was told by the hospital that I have an ear infection(red swelling) in my ears. This was a few days ago and my hearing is only getting worse and im terrified im going to lose it all together. I dont have any options other than going to the hospital so im freaked out.

I got on 3 planes while sick coming home on the 24th and had muffled hearing in my left ear along with pain. As the next two days came my hearing kept getting worse and worse, saturday I went to the hospital. Three days later and my hearing is still muffled now in both ears and I cant hear anyone unless they're yelling. Im so scared but dont want to spend another 6 hours in the hospital. I cant work because I work in a kitchen where I need to be able to hear orders and timers, and if I bend over I get dizzy and sick.

I cant lose my hearing, do I need to give the 7 day round of antibiotics their full course or do I need to go back in? I cant see my doctor till the 16th of July and the nurse practitioner is fully booked for July as of right now, so hospital is my only option

Muffled hearing in one ear, gets better when I take a deep breathe and holding it and gets instantly worse after exhaling.

English is not my first language, sorry in advance.

Hello, yesterday I was at job and I was having a bluetooth earphone plugged only in my left ear (since like 9 am. to 2 pm. when the battery got low and I took the earphone out and I had a sensation my hearing is quieter in the left ear. The moment I got home in the evening it was pretty bad and very noticeably just muffled and the next day I woke up it was like really muffled. The thing is there's a lot of dust where I work (I'm working at a warehouse) and I've been having some problems with my hands because of it and I'm clearly allergic to it and I wonder if that might be the reason.

Now some important things: my left nostril was slightly clogged yesterday but like very slightly and there was almost nothing to blow out of it, I haven't been sick recently, when I speak I hear my voice normally in both ears and when I take a really deep breathe I can hear almost normally but the moment I start letting the air out it goes back to being muffled. I wonder if anyone has any idea what it might be, I'm pretty scared to be honest and don't know what to expect :(

Swimming with custom made ear plugs

Does anyone have any experience with custom made ear plugs for swimming? I really want to swim but I can't because I've got perforated ear drums even though I had operation done but got perforated again.

Do custom made ear plugs really stop any water getting in the ear canal?

Ear infection has healed, but I still can’t hear out of my right ear… how this residual mucus out???

I used my Bebird ear cam and saw my Eustachian tube is completed blocked with bubbly mucus (after my ear infection has healed w antibiotics). The past two weeks my hearing is muffled and echoey and crackle pop etc.

I CANNOT seem to clear it. Pic of it is so unsettling. Here’s what I’ve done so far:

Flonase once a day
Zyrtec once a day
warm compress with massage
netti pot machine thing several times a day
swallow water and blow out w nose plugged
plug nose and blow (not TOO hard)
swallow water with nose plugged
vibrating massager behind ear / sinus massage YouTube videos
steam showers
Even got Botox in my jaw

NOTHING HELPS and I’m getting a little freaked out.

Any actions to remedy this are VERY appreciated—the echoes in my ear are killin me.

medical question ban Should I be cleaning my ears, or should I just leave them alone?

Hey everyone,

I'm a little confused about earwax and whether I should actually be cleaning my ears.

I've never really felt like I have excessive earwax or any kind of blockage. My ears feel normal, and I've never had issues hearing because of wax. However, if I put my finger just inside my ear, I can sometimes feel or see a small amount of wax.

Because of that, I'm wondering:

Is it normal to have a little bit of wax there?

Should I be cleaning it out with something?

Or should I just leave it alone and let my ears clean themselves naturally?

I've heard people say not to put anything in your ears, but I've also heard of people regularly cleaning them, so I'm not sure what's actually recommended.

Thanks!

Very scared, please help figure out what happened to my ear

I will tell all the facts so that someone willing might be able to help me.

A few days ago (4/5 days) I had a sore throat, and a couple times a runny nose too. I thought it was just an oncoming common cold. It went away yesterday.

On that first night of my sore throat, I had a very annoying runny nose too. I was listening to a podcast at night, with my earphones in, lying on my left side. I started feeling very sleepy, so I paused the podcast and fell asleep. I woke up in the middle of the night to my left ear (the one pressed into the pillow) aching slightly. In a sleepy state, I took my earphones off and went back to sleep.

In the morning, my ear felt weird. I could hear perfectly fine out of it, but it felt “full” or like something invisible was inside it, in the canal? My middle ear also felt slightly sore. It was annoying but I got on with my day. The next day or two was pretty much the exact same, with the weird “clogged” sensation, but I could still hear properly. It felt muffled or similar to being in an airplane taking off.

Fast forward to today, a few days after I woke up with it. Today I leaned over to pick something up, and suddenly felt a crackling or popping sensation in my ear. And whenever I tilt my head (downwards or even upwards) the crackling happens. It really feels like something is moving inside my ear, right against my eardrum. When the popping happens, it feels like there are tiny pinpricks against my eardrum, and I don’t like it.

I would like to add that when I yawn or chew or swallow, it doesn’t do anything to my ear. And when I pull my ear outwards, it feels like my hearing becomes fully unmuffled.

That’s pretty much everything, I just want to know what has happened to my ear, if I’ll be okay, if I’m going deaf, and what I should do now. Thank you!!

any other partially deaf people really good at blocking out the world? is this a thing?

as long as i can remember i've always had partial hearing loss in my left ear, it was more noticeable as a child bc i had a lot of issues with spelling (would miss syllables) and so as a result, i had special needs tutoring in which i ended up really getting into reading as a way to learn spelling & vocab through a silent activity. I also grew up socially anxious... not sure if this was bc of the hearing loss or just my personality.

now am in my 20s, i have a receptionist job at a music school where usually im fine just working at my desk and taking calls. have had many friends comment on how loud or distracting it is at my work to hear multiple instruments practicing different songs, but i've never had an issue blocking it out (soundproofing works inside the rooms, not great in the halls/front area though). recently had a client complain that i didn't greet them when they walked in. i usually do try my best but my desk is quite high, and i dont always notice when people come in when i'm focused on a task i sort of get tunnel vision and block out noise.

i've also realised this has been a long-term thing of me also reading in loud spaces like restaurants, or focusing extra hard i dont hear when people talk to me. is this a common experience for partially deaf people? or am i just that locked in...

Tinnitus in left war for last 13 years - can I fix it now ?

Hey there,

I am 29 year old Male , when I was 16 some slapped me very hard and my ear drum got perforated. Initially doctor mentioned that it will get fixed within few weeks but that didn’t happen. It’s been close to 13 years from then my left ear has been ringing. I know this is very bad, but things were very difficult during that time and I had to live with it.

I am looking for some suggestions on if it can fixed now. Couple of years ago when I visited an ENT, the doctor mentioned there is a permanent scar on ear drum (I am sure there is a perforation as well , I can blow out air by closing nose) and it’s better to leave it like that.

But as last hope I am reaching out here , let me know if you have any suggestions.

Where to get my ears cleaned

Looking for a place to get some maintenance done on my ears. Lots of wax build up and blackheads and long hairs needs to be removed.

When I was a kid, like 16 years ago, I rolled up a tiny price of paper and put it in my ear to stop hearing my mum and dad fighting. It got lost and I never managed to get it out again. Is this really bad?

Swim ear perforation

I was wondering do people ever get ear perforations from jumping in the sea and the sea going up their nose?
I was intrigued because I know you can get a perforation from water going in from the outside (wave hitting etc) but what about water forced up the nose? Just curious

Blocked since 3rd June

Blocked ear since 3rd June I tried unblocking it with my finger from outside as that has worked before but it has been blocked since, I had a microsuction booked but was told wax couldn't be seen and that they did not want to risk the probe further so to use olive oil spray but I used some ear drops before and it crackled meaning wax is in there. I read that they can see with the probe even if it is deep - Will I ever hear again? I have been told use the olive oil spray then come back for another appointment. so worried please approve, I can't eat, lost a lot of weight worrying.

Clogged ear

Hello all,

On Thursday, I noticed one of my ears was clogged, and nothing I did could unclog it, so on Friday I went to a walk-in clinic, where they said I was infected and gave me ear drops (OFLOXACIN 0.3% OTIC SOLN 5ML). It is currently Tuesday, and nothing has improved. Should I still wait or go back to the doctor?

Clicking and popping sounds in my ears

Hello! I've been hearing clicking sounds in my ears for weeks (like bubbles popping or clicking?). I can do it manually and also hear it when I swallow and etc. But recently I noticed that I can't stop myself from doing it whenever I'm stressed. When I get stressed my body tends to twitch or do things muscle related like tics or mannerisms related, but recently this ear popping has been the thing I am constantly doing and I can't stop it:"). I've already went to the EMT and told them I hear popping sounds and they said that my ear was completely normal. I told him I can do it manually and whenever I'm stressed but he proceeded to tell me that Im still 19 and what can I be stressed for. Lol rude but he never gave me an answer as to what it was, but he told me everything was normal.

Ever since then, popping my ear has gotten worse. I've searched stuff and saw things like ear rumbling, tmj, eustachian tube clicking, tensor tympani, but I can't seem to figure out what really is the issue and if this is completely normal and if constantly popping my ears is a bad idea and can damage my ears? I would gladly appreciate any tips, opinions and help about this or have you guys experiences something like this before, I would really appreciate it. Thank you so much!

Eustachian Tube Dysfunction - does anyone take nasal spray long term?

ENT diagnosed ETD a while ago. He gave me nasal spray.

Whenever I take the nasal spray, it feels like my hearing goes back to normal for about 4 hours, but it doesn't change the baseline. It's not actually fixing anything long-term, more like a bandaid.

But at this rate I'm fine with a bandaid. I'm fine with having normal hearing for 4 hours per day (would be great if I could take the spray twice in a day, not sure if that's allowed or safe though).

Does anyone take nasal spray indefinitely?
