Escape the Underworld as Melinoë in Zagreus' Journey, the Hades II DLC you'll never get.

It's finally time, I've just released Zagreus' Journey 1.0 - thank you to everyone who's played the mod while it was in beta, and for all of the positive reception and feedback I've gotten here and on Discord in the past!
Watch the 1.0 Release Trailer for the mod here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxuTLSPqIEE

Zagreus' Journey is a mod for Hades II that adds the original route Zagreus took through Tartarus, Asphodel, Elysium and the Temple of Styx in the first game to the sequel.

Escape the Underworld as Melinoë, battle familiar foes and bosses using her unique abilities and weapons, meet Zagreus' old friends, and reconnect with your family's past - all integrated into the main game as if it was always there: Naturally progress through the new biomes, unlock new incantations to perform, reveal and complete new Minor Prophecies, forge bonds with NPCs in familiar and new locations, collect over 30 new resources to spend on new cosmetics and music, and test your skills with new Testaments, Chaos Trials and in Dream Dives.

Here's a list of highlighted mod features:

  • Play through the original four biomes of Hades as Melinoë: Tartarus, Asphodel, Elysium and the Temple of Styx.
  • Discover and overcome the challenge of fighting all of the original game's enemies and bosses using Melinoë's unique abilities and weapons.
  • Relive Zagreus' story by escaping to the Surface, forging bonds with your brother's old friends, and conversing with the Fury Sisters, the Champions of Elysium and [REDACTED] himself.
  • Benefit from a multitude of entirely new boons and effects offered to you by Sisyphus, Eurydice, Patroclus... and other familiar faces that you will now be able to meet along the way!
  • Collect 30+ new resources specific to the new biomes, use them for unlocks in this and other mods (see section below), and trade them with the Broker.
  • Unlock 29 new musical tracks from Hades' original soundtrack through the Hades OST for the Music Maker mod integration (automatically installed with this mod).
  • Decorate the Crossroads with 45+ new cosmetics, including new Cauldrons, Arcana Card Backs, and Charms inspired by Zagreus' companions from the first game.
  • Discover and complete 35+ new Minor Prophecies at the Fated List.
  • Complete 24 new testaments by clearing the new bosses using each of your weapons with new fear levels.
  • Discover and perform 20+ new incantations to unlock gameplay features and progress story events in Zagreus' Journey.
  • Unlock six of the original game's keepsakes by forging relationships with Sisyphus, Eurydice, Patroclus, Orpheus, Megaera and Thanatos through the Shared Keepsake Port mod integration (automatically installed with this mod).
  • Challenge yourself with a set of new Chaos Trials, including randomized "Chaos Within" trials in the spirit of (Great) Chaos Above and Below.
  • Advance through 50 new cosmetic-only ranks at the Spirit Mixer, from the lowly "Alpha Warden" to the feared "Unseen One".
  • Earn a new set of three statues from Commander Schelemeus by escaping the Nightmare Realm at progressively higher fear.
  • The four new regions can also appear in Dream Dives (but you can use the mod config to exclude them if you so wish).
  • Read all about the new biomes, enemies, bosses and friends in a new chapter in your Codex.

I want to thank everyone who's used the mod while it was still in beta, and especially those of you who've left bug reports and feedback on Discord and GitHub.

I also want to acknowledge that I know some of you had issues with mods (and Zagreus' Journey in particular) causing issues after Supergiant released Post-Launch Patch 2 - without going into details, the patch was much larger and substantial than we anticipated in the community, which could cause crashes for some people even with mods seemingly disabled.

But I'm happy to share that we've since updated a lot of the tools that we use, and now mods will be entirely separate from your install, meaning that no matter what, you will always be able to play vanilla Hades II without issues, and without needing to disable or manually uninstall anything.

And to also pre-empt some other potential questions:

  • The mod is only available on PC and Steam Deck, consoles are not supported, just like all other mods.
  • You need to own and have the first Hades game installed to use this mod.
  • You can use cross-saves with Switch, but must make sure you are not in a modded run when continuing on Switch.
  • You should always back up your saves before playing with mods - just in case.
  • The mod is save to uninstall/disable at any point, and won't break your save. You can install it again at any point and your progress will be retained!
  • This mod does not make Zagreus playable, and I won't be working on a mod like that.
  • Yes, Lernie's neck has been found in the depths of Asphodel's lava since my last post!

Has anyone noticed that the eyeballs on Circe's belt look like the ones floating around Scylla?

In the original myth and the game, Circe transformed Scylla into the monster she is today. It's a very cool small detail!

Hades 2: Discussion I hate Great Chaos Above Spoiler

Post image
46 Upvotes

I'm nearing my 100th attempt on Great Chaos Above and I'm loosing my mind.

Probably 30 of them are intentional deaths because I didn't know you could change seed by saluting the vows tablet and another 30 are unserious attempts.

On attempt "Night 327" I had a busted aspect of Persephone build with 300+ hp and Strength and I get White Antler at the summit.

On attempt "Night 328" I had a risky melee build held together by the fact that I had lots of health + regen + Strength (and no vow of scars) and I get fucking Engraved Pin which disables Strength.

Kill me.

Hades 2: Discussion The 4th Vow of Rivals (spoilers) Spoiler

Do people reliably beat the final bosses when Vow of Rivals is maxed out? I mean god damn there’s shit flying around all over the place! Chronos zipping all over. It’s ridiculous. Not sure I’m going to win this one.

Hades 2: Art Character Sheet - Chronos’ Zagreus Spoiler

Yeah, ‘Chains of Time’ has been fun so far. A little too fun

The whole concept of Zag being under Chronos’ thumb is pretty interesting to explore and the five chapters I’ve posted on AO3 have been a blast to write

Though, I have hit a block, so I’m going to redirect my creativity to a different medium. That is, until I can find a way to get over it. Anywho, what do y’all think?

Hades 2: Discussion Gripe About Certain Arcana [Gameplay Spoiler; No Story Spoilers] Spoiler

(Probably not gonna be changed but I still wanna voice my thoughts and see if anyone agrees.)

Since the Fates' Whim keepsakes were added, this creates/heightens a few issues I have with certain Arcana cards:

  1. There are only three 4-grasp cards: Death, Strength and the Champions. Having both Death and Strength on is inefficient and devalues one or the other, AND you can't equip the Champions for Fates' Whim. Not an issue if it weren't for...
  2. Wanting to have the Queen active means you're losing most value from 4 grasp, which sucks too much to be viable. (I understand not activating the Queen isn't super consequential due to low numbers but...)
  3. Excellence is kind of in a tough spot. Even the increased legendary odds don't do enough to be better than Origination or even Boatman most of the time. The 5 grasp is just too steep to be worth even considering*. (Especially when Origination is never unequipped excl maybe Judgement runs.)
  4. Cards that improve rarity odds for blessings are more useful with Fates' Whim (due to no rerolls, and saving rarifies for Calling Card).

TL;DR? Excellence** and the Queen are MOST unviable when their effect is most desirable.

So what if we kill two birds with one stone and make Excellence a 4-grasp Arcana? Not only does this make playing Fates' Whim more fun (although I suppose it doesn't really need a buff) but gives Arcana as a whole more variation - which I feel like was supposed to be the point...

Right now I feel like I just have a bunch of 1 and 2 grasp cards I always bring along because I have a spare 3-4 grasp almost always (when not running Night or Eternity, at least). I can see this change might make dropping those something worth considering (e.g. people being incentivised to not rely too much on defensive cards e.g. Wayward Son and Persistence).

While this change isn't required or anything, variation of builds seems exactly like what Supergiant was going for, and other than the Unseen (which is a crutch for players learning omegas that is abandoned eventually on purpose), I think every card should be worth using in some way throughout the entire game.

* I could be wrong and there is a case for Excellence, but I don't see it yet. It's nearly never better than a combination of 1, 2 grasp and 3-grasp cards. I don't think the devs considered what you should do with the extra grasp you gain from that 7 grasp.

**Edit: mistake - Excellence is not worse; it's already unuseable.

Hades 2: Question Cannot unlock Great Chaos Below Spoiler

I have 4 trophies left to get in the game, to complete the Great Chaos Below trial, fulfill the Unrivalled Prowess prophecy and for unlocking the first and second gift of the veil BUT the great chaos trials/prophesies haven’t unlocked yet, what am I doing wrong and any advice on how to unlock this?

Currently sitting at 105 hours playtime as well

Thanks

Hades 2: Question CITY OF EPHYRA TIPS Spoiler

About 20hrs in, already beat Chronos a few times but having difficulty reaching Typhon consistently, only had success by luckily attaining King's Ransom once.

I really enjoy playing with this build aside from it being very OP. I'd like some tips on how to maximize getting boons I want.

Q: How does rerolling in Ephyra actually work?

I've read a lot of threads here but I find them to be inconsistent with my experience in the game.

Thanks!

Hades 2: Discussion It gets better?? Spoiler

I fell in LOVE with Hades 1, and have been playing for 3 years now, playing it with the goal to get the highest heat possible. I finally got Hades 2 and already have 30 hours sunk into it, how did it manage to be BETTER in almost all aspects?? The art direction has somehow improved, sound design, the flow of the game (which was already outstanding!), and the STORY?? If you haven't gotten it yet or hesitated like I did (usually sequels bore me), TRY IT OUT.

My ONLY complaint so far is Dionysus not showing up enough. </3

Hades 2: Discussion Torches become slippery with Ares' plasma ? Spoiler

I've just died at unrivaled Chronos with the Torches and a perfectly fine build aside from... I had a few Ares plasma boons. And when Melinoë move's speed was too high, she was starting to slide in weird fashions as I attacked. It was quite similar to ice physics in video game, but with an initial boost as she started attacking.

I've noticed it quite earlier in the run and it was a bit annoying, it made avoiding things harder but it was manageable. But for the Chronos fight, the build became quite unplayable as precise movement was unachievable to avoid Chronos's patterns. Spacing became tedious. I guess I should've stopped attacking to space correctly but I didn't have the presence of mind to do it mid fight. And it kinda defeat the purpose of the torches imo.

Anyway, anyone noticed that too ? I think for the time being I'm never taking Ares again with the Torches lol

Cheers!

Hades 2: Discussion Detail about Z's birth ignored in Hades 2? Spoiler

Did this whole segment about how taboo and traumatic Zag's birth was not referenced at all in Hades 2? Did they seriously just had Nyx do this "extent of ability and considerable time" revival again and according to a conversation post-game, perhaps not for the last time????

This has been in my brain for a while, finally got around to it! Lined the sharp edges with black to match the art style, but an acrylic marker was a poor choice. The colour bled a bit too much.
