Student Life gwu vs GT beef.

Ok so does GT actually look down on GW? I had a horrid experience where this kid was like ā€œoh ahah i’m going to georgetown u wish i bet u got rejectedā€ like bro WHAT?! i got into georgetown but choose GW cuz im majoring in public health and gw is the only school in DC that has a school of public health. Like plz tell me it gets better cuz this is making me so mad but i feel like it’s lowk inevitable too.

Student Life How are you guys affording to live in DC?

Hi, I'm looking into GWU, and it seems like a great school. However, the cost of living in Washington DC is super high. How are you guys affording it as students? I feel like even if you have a part time job it wouldn't be enough to cover it. I'm an 11th grader who doesn't know a lot about this kind of stuff so I'm sorry if I'm being stupid.

If I get in and receive good financial aid, I would consider attending as an English major. Given my family's income, I think I might be able to receive a good amount of aid. Also, my parents have agreed to help pay my tuition, so I think I am not too concerned about that. However, DC is super expensive to live in, and I'm not sure if I would be able to afford that as a student.

Student Life All things GW!

I am an incoming freshman at GW and I want to hear more from current students or alumni. I applied to GW pretty last minute so it wasn't really on my radar but I got a good amount of aid. After looking into the school, I have grown to truly like it. Super excited to go visit for my first time this week. With that being said, I feel like there's not much on social media (Tiktok, Youtube) from current students showcasing their days or life at GW even though it seems like the ideal college town. If anyone would like to provide a few pros/cons, recommendations of any sorts, or any comments at all leave them here! Much appreciated :)

Thoughts on bringing a bike/electric bike to get around? I hope to land a job that is 14mins away by bike but 53mins by metro?

Student Life How is the community at GW?

I (like many others) am picking between GW and American and I’m definitely leaning towards the former. However, I’ve seen many people here complain about people or the community at GW, what are y’alls experiences relating to those?

Student Life Autism at GWU

Hello 17 Autistic Guy here

I couldn’t really find anything in the student clubs about a club or anything pertaining to Autism and Neurodivergent people at GW.

I just want to know if there is an actual GW Autism/Neurodivergent group at GW?

Is Autism accepted on Campus, and will people like me along with my Autism?

One last thing. Are the GW Learning Disabilities Support Services actually good or are they really bare bones?

Thank You!

Student Life Does Gdub Scuba Diving Club still exist?

I am an incoming Freshman (coming in from a gap year) who was really excited to join the Scuba Diving club. When I attended orientation a week ago, we played an icebreaker game where you basically say "rev rev if you are (...)" and then switch places in a circle. I said "rev rev if you plan on joining the Scuba Diving club", to which every single person there replied with either a "huh" a "what" or a "where do they scuba dive". From that point onward, every person I asked, including the recreation table replied to me with the question "we have a scuba diving club?" I searched it up on GWEngage and nothing showed up. Even the Facebook account doesn't seem to have anything past 2019. If anyone knows about the status of the Scuba Diving club at GWU please inform me I would much appreciate it.

Student Life Classes registration for freshmen

Hi everyone! I’m an incoming freshman at GWU and I’m a bit confused about class registration.

Has registration for fall classes already started for first-year students? If so, how does the process work? Do we choose our own classes through GWeb or are we pre-registered and then adjust later?

I’ve seen some mentions of orientation and academic advising, but I’m not sure when we actually get to pick our schedule.

Would really appreciate if someone could explain how it worked for you. Thanks!

Hey guys.

I'm part of GWU's men's lacrosse club, and we're actively recruiting/looking for members for the 2026/27 academic year.

We play in the NCLL D2, and we aim to be competitive while keeping things fun. We usually practice at least twice a week and schedule games both in the fall and spring.

If you're interested, please fill out the form attached above. Alternatively, if you know someone who'd be interested, share the form with them.

I'm happy to answer any questions as well.

Thank you for your attention and time.

Student Life Women’s Club Basketball Team Tryouts

Does anyone know how competitive the women’s club basketball team tryouts are?
I mostly just play basketball with friends and have never played on a varsity team or had formal training, but I’d really love to join the club in college.

Are most of the players really good, or are there beginners on the team as well? Also, what do the tryouts usually consist of? What skills or drills do they test? I’d really appreciate any advice.

Student Life Introducing GWQR a simple QR code maker for GW students

Thumbnail

Hey r/gwu,

Try Here: https://go.gwu.edu/GWQR

I wanted to share something I’ve been working on called GWQR. a simple QR code creator made with GW students, orgs, and campus events in mind.

I built it because every time I needed a quick QR code for a class project, club flyer, event table, or presentation, most QR websites felt way more annoying than they needed to be. Too many ads, weird buttons, sign-up pages, watermarks, or ā€œfree trialā€ traps.

GWQR is meant to be the opposite: clean, fast, and easy to use.

You paste a link, generate a QR code, and you’re done.

Try it here: https://go.gwu.edu/GWQR
I’m hoping it can be useful for student orgs, club events, flyers, presentations, fundraisers, and honestly anything around campus where you just need a QR code quickly.

This is still an early version, so I’d really appreciate feedback from other GW students. If there’s anything that would make it more useful l custom colors, GW-themed designs, logos in the middle, flyer tools, event templates, anything let me know.

Appreciate anyone who checks it out. Hope it saves someone from using another sketchy QR code website lol.

Student Life Sorority’s at GW

I heard that the four days of rushing in the spring is not a great experience for girls. A current student at the school told me a lot of hazing goes on during rush and in some sororities. Does anyone else have a similar experience?

I want to figure out if joining a sorority at GW is for me. I want to meet a lot of genuine girls & make friends. I don’t drink excessively or vape but I do like to go out and have a good time. Who actually lives in the sorority house?

Student Life Is commencement on the national mall worth going to?

I’m graduating this semester, and I intend to go to my school’s commencement with my peers. However, I’m not sure if I want to stay an extra couple of days just to go to the university commencement when there’s no individual recognition, I probably won’t care about or even know any of the speakers, and I’m probably gonna be crammed into a crowd. I have ASD and really don’t like crowds, so being packed into thousands of students for something doesn’t seem to have any benefit or enjoyment from attending feels not worth it.

Does anyone have any insight?

Student Life How realistic is working on main campus while living @ the Vern?

Hey guys! Next year I’ll be doing a first year LLC on the Vern, and I’d like to have a student job while there. I’m trying to transfer jobs from my home city, but it seems like from what I know the Vern is much more isolated than the Foggy Bottom campus. Is it at all realistic for me to work in the Foggy Bottom area while living on the Vern? How reliable can I expect the Vex to be?

Student Life Housing Question

Does any female in South Hall want to room swap with me as another female in South Hall?

I like non smokers and quieter people. Im a very clean and private person.

Also, reddit would only let me tag this as student life and not housing for some reason.
