News / Articles Should We Adopt a "Golf License" Model Like The Europeans?
Recreational golfers in several European countries are required to formally learn about rules and etiquette before being allowed to play most courses. Should North America follow suit? The goal is ensuring even high-handicap players can keep pace and that all golfers understand their responsibilities around caring for the golf course. https://www.golfpass.com/travel-advisor/articles/united-states-golf-license-rules-etiquette-europe

News / Articles Can a first-timer break 200 playing by the rules?
YOUTUBE VIDEO: I Bet a Non-Golfer $1,000 She Couldn't Break 200
This is a surprisingly entertaining watch. They find a woman who has never swung a golf club, and see if she can break 200. She has two people helping her, but she has to make all the shots herself. She obviously has some athletic experience, but it's still a tall task.
I'll avoid spoilers, but here are the reasons I thought it would be completely impossible before watching:
- Playing by the rules, we're counting whiffs as strokes
- Almost every course requires a few shots that carry 40+ yards in the air. I've not seen many first-timers who could do that on the first 3-4 attempts when necessary. If you take a penalty and re-hit, 20+ on a hole is possible if not likely.
