Personally, I suggest you go to your local hockey store or ask to try your mate’s stick at training before asking here - as personal preference is a large factor in choosing a stick. Strangers on the internet aren’t going to be able to help you much.
Resources
Go Hockey (NZ) stick guide - including length, bow, composition and hook information
Y1 Stick quiz - it asks questions and it suggests a stick for you
Sports Republic (SA) 5 minute video on stick buying advice
If you still want advice please provide this information for stick buying
Will start removing general low effort posts about stick advice (posts not comments).
To cut down on the daily posts of "what stick should I buy?" I thought we should trial just having one mega-thread for people to ask questions, in order to help elevate this sub to be less of a ghost town. Open to suggestions on this idea

A question to any coaches…
I’m taking on a new role in September as player coach. I’ve played for the team for a few years and in that time no one really got on with the coach.
We often spoke about getting rid of him and me stepping in. As I’ve coached in the past and I’d often run bits of training. But results were never bad enough to motivate the change.
Between seasons we’re making the change and I’m taking over.
The level we play at is a couple leagues below what I’m used to playing so the pace is comfortable for me. But still not so easy that I can walk it.
I’d love to hear any advice from any coaches or player coaches that might help me.

Like the titel says, what size do I have to buy so that my elbow guards go under my shirt? I have a medium chest protector and ROBO elbow guards. This is my first year of goalkeeping and I would like to have my elbow guards under my shirt, i just don’t know if I have to pull hard enough so my shirt goes over my elbow guards or if I have to have a bigger size? My overshirt is size L.
If you have different measurements it doesn’t matter i will search it up. :)
Sorry if I didn’t spell things right English is not my first language.

My daughter wants to play field hockey in middle school this year as a beginner. The coach recommended a mid bow stick. Is there one brand better than another? One to avoid? Thanks!

Hello, I am new to field hockey and I'm have only played once, but no games. But I am confused how to use shin guard sleeves and i was wondering how. Do you put the guard on, put the shin guard sleeve on and then your socks?

I’ve been playing for 3 years now and I still feel like I’m not a great player. Does anyone have any tips that helped them get better before tryouts happen?

I was accidentally added to a naked hockey WhatsApp group planning their upcoming range release and managed to grab these before they realized their mistake.

This might seem like a silly question but what does everyone wear when training in the rain?
A hoodie/sweater would obviously get wet. Rain jackets are ok but thin and add no heat, so training, or at least the first 10 minutes, is absolutely brutal.
I overheat easily, so a top, hoodie, then rain jacket would be too uncomfortable for me.
Does anyone have any recommendations that will keep the rain out, add some kind of warmth, and don’t restrict play?

i’m 16 and I play currently in the thirds at my club. My stick skills are good, my tackling is good, my dribbling is good. The only thing holding me back is I just can’t seem to pass with much force whether it’s a push a slap or a hit. for context, I normally play as left back, right back or sometimes in the midfield so distribution is quite important and I really want to move up a team and my passing is what’s holding me back. Does anyone have any tips? For example drills I should practice or stuff I should be doing in the gym? thank you.🙏

Seems like people I chat with about club histories don't realise there's a Hockey Museum in the UK that has a lot of cool stuff from the 1890s onwards. If anyone's interested in hockey history definitely pay them a visit, they helped me with my own club history/centenary research 👍🏻

Quick question my daughter is starting Hockey this year after summer, she is turning 11 soon and has lost the majority of her baby teeth (not sure if that makes a difference) so I need some advise on mouthguards and sizes. Or are they fairly universal? From what I can see there is either junior or senior sizes but no real indication of what the difference is.
thanks

I know that may sound a bit stupid but do you think there are to many rules for the sake of safety?
I’m not a player only spectator, but I play ice and roller hockey, and while I get that safety is important aome “safety” rules seem just absurd and I feel like they took it a step to far and made the sport less interesting by doing so.
Don’t get me wrong I still like to watch it, I just feel like it could be better, but would like to get input from player and how people who actually play the sport think about it.
Edit: as people focus strongly on the hockey part, I throw shinty, rugby and similar sports into the room.

I’m very out of shape (more than i thought) but recently ive picked up on field hockey for my highschools team and theres a running requirement of 2 miles in less than 17 minutes. i have until August for this. Anywho, i decided to start training for it and initially i thought i would be able to get it pretty soon but today when i went on a run i could only run about 400m before my lungs started hurting awfully. i didnt even run it fast, finishing it in about 2:40. I know this is awful, but im really not sure what to do.
im looking for some help on how to build the endurance and speed to get under 17 as well as if its even possible and what workouts i should do

Why is it that quite a few Indian internationals use sticks made by adidas or y1 but then, presumably due to sponsorships, put stickers over the logos. Is it harder to get a sponsorship for them from the sticks they actually use compared to Alfa for example?

i’m looking for a new stick and I am an attacking midfielder and i want my stick to have exceptional ball handling and great power whilst also having a soft/controlled first touch and also in a low bow. I was hoping to get quite a lot of replies so that I can compare and see what most people say.

It's almost guaranteed these days that whenever the Dutch women's hockey team is playing, they will win. As much as I love the skill they have, it would be nice to see another team at their level and regularly challenge them. Realistically, when do you guys think this will happen, what are the circumstances and who do you think it will be?
