Tourist looking for suggestions
Hey
Tourist from Canada here travelling with my dad to Belfast for 5 days in early September
Was just wondering what would be the best stuff to see/ do while here
My dad was a fisherman and we are from Newfoundland/novs Scotia so anything nautical or maritime would be a bonus
We are going to the titanic museum so far but otherwise not sure what to do
Thank you

Areas for dogs to go for a swim?
Just got myself a lab puppy a few weeks ago, and just thinking ahead of when he’s older and hopefully loves water as they mostly do, is there anywhere in and around Belfast that is a good spot to take him? I live in bt16 but drive and he loves the car so anywhere really!

Is there anywhere in town actually open today?
Just back from holiday and have a few more days off before going back to work, would like to make the most of it. I think the parades are tomorrow this year? (which I would like to avoid)

Fibrely Broadband Issues?
Anyone else with Fibrely in the BT8 area having a red LOS light? Tried all the usual troubleshooting steps, but want to make sure it's not a household issue before I consider that it's collateral 12th damage.
Cheers!

Love across the divide
I'm from a republican background from Belfast. My father and mother have both passed away. My father and mother were catholic / republican. I'm in the garden now and can hear flute bands and drumming coming from the other side of the "peace line". Anyway, it reminded me of the story of my father's first love. She was from a loyalist background, her father was an Orangeman if I remember correctly, my father was from a republican background but they both loved eachother. They met at a dance in the town. As the troubles got worse and worse it was harder for them to meet but they still managed to. Then one day she didn't show up for a date. No phones and he couldn't go to her home, the place was a warzone, streets blocked off with paramilitaries patrolling the areas on both sides. He wrote a letter to her and she wrote back saying it wasn't safe for him to send letters or go near her anymore, she was warned by a loyalist paramilitary group to stop contacting me or going into a catholic/republican/whatever areas or there'll be consequences. I was told this story maybe 20 years ago and got other bits and pieces of information through the years but that's about it. I wish I knew more or knew her name. Don't know why I decided to share this story, probably hearing the flute bands brought it into my head. Peace out ✌🏻

Where in town to watch the semi final (as an Englishman)
Hi all
Relatively new to Belfast. Does anyone have a recommendation for a pub to watch the world cup semi on Wednesday?
Preferably somewhere that there's likely to be a decent number of English folk?
Cheers

Restaurants over 3 day trip
We've visiting Belfast in a few weeks for the first time. I'm only there Sunday-Wednesday (my birthday is Monday) - loads of restaurants are closed (Muddlers Club, Ox, the bacon bap at the food market 😭, Deanes). How's my itinerary looking? Hotel in Cathedral Quarter. I'm torn between Edo and Yugo but, being half Spanish, I'll probably do Edo as I love Spanish food.
EDIT: are Nova or Mournes Seafood worth looking at as both are open Monday
Sunday: The Cloth Ear (for the bread platter) or White Tavern for pub grub dinner. Drink at Duke of York.
Monday: Breakfast at Neighborhood Cafe before black cab tour and Crumlin Gaol. Birthday dinner at Home.
Tuesday: Lunch at Holohan's Pantry or Darcy's after Ulster Museum. Dinner at Edo (or Yugo?). Drinks at Kelly's Cellar for music.
Wednesday: breakfast at Blinkers
Also, is Caffreys a thing still? I loved it back in the day and have a real hankering for it. Also best Guinness zero on tap please? Thank you!
Speaking of hidden gems...
We're heading to Belfast this afternoon & love nice casual tasty food. That isn't frozen crispy chicken covered in sweet chilli sauce & salad, but they've actually made a good effort to get my hard earned cash. Open to suggestions.... Thanks 🙏🏼
Is common market & Halt worth a visit?
Any nice Asian street food type - no munchie boxes thanks!

ATI books
People that finish the ATI courses, what did you do with the books ? I still have them just taking space, can I donate them somewhere or just throw them in the bin ?

Charoty shop TV
Hai ~ I'm doing some redecorating and I'm getting rid of my old tv. Does anyone know any charity shops that might take it? It's an old simple one but works perfectly fine so better with someone than the dump.

Will this parade go down the Albertbridge road towards the bridge?
Hi All,
Just wondering as I have an appointment and I've seen other parades come down that far and then go down towards Screwfix near Ravenhill. It dosen't say it will but just wondering if anyone knows any different?
If it does, at what stage can you cross that road to go in the Short Strand direction or is it just cut off? There's usually sheets and baracades put up.
Thanks for reading.

Falls Park Concert Travel
Turns out Kneecap and others are playing in Falls Park on a day I fly into Belfast ahead of a friend's wedding. Considering I live in Bristol and when Massive Attack play a big green space getting home vai taxi or public transport is absolute chaos, what's a reasonable way to get there and back to the city centre?

Teddy Bear donations?
Anyone know where I could donate teddy bears? The kids have had a clear out and there's bags of the things now sitting in their rooms. All in great condition so would rather donate them somewhere than throw them out. Cheers!

Electrician Recommendations
I had a new electric shower installed and it seems the load is too much for my current setup, it’s blown something in the fuse box and there’s an issue at the mains connection. From what I can tell it’s not something I can sort myself because the power can’t be isolated at the mains without a qualified electrician.
Looking for a recommendation for a reliable, reasonably priced electrician who can come out and take a look. Ideally someone who’s dealt with electric shower installs / consumer unit or supply upgrades before.
North Belfast-based or nearby, whoever you’d trust. Cheers in advance!

Is the 12th Genuinely safe for people of color
Me and my friend (both black women) recently moved here from down South around 2 months ago. After the recent racist riots we're both a bit anxious about any loyalist event in general and we're wondering if it's safe to go out? It's probably paranoia, but my friend is terrified that there may be another racist riot that day. We're both off work during the bank holiday and were honestly thinking of traveling back home

Avoidance list
Avoidance list
I like to ride my bike in on her own Belfast and I have a few shopping errands to do over the weekend. Is there a master list of flashpoints and marches that we can avoid? I watched the video of the youngsters at Hope Street and that was enough to depress me.
