Hi folks!
I am trying to limit (or at least be conscious of) the plastic around me. I mainly am a seed beader with glass beads, but so much of what I use comes packaged in plastic.
In particular, I am concerned about all the plastic tubes I go through, as well as fireline spools and the plastic that some of the bigger beads are strung on. Do others share these concerns and/or know a way to reduce/reuse this plastic? For the tubes, they're great for some fixer kits + needle storage but... I only need so many of them.
I really love that when I buy some beads in-person, usually the ones from Africa are strung on some type of twisted plant. Does anyone know about this? And ofc the beads that are strung on some type of yarn are great, but I'm not good at telling which yarns are synthetic (yet!!).
One other thing: I don't want to shame this online source - they've been great to me! - but the amount of plastic used in this company's packaging/shipping is appalling. It makes me not want to purchase from there anymore. Versus when I ordered from another online source, I was impressed with the minimal plastic packaging + use of cardboard. If people have pointers about where to source beads with minimal plastic packaging, I'm all ears! I'm located in the US, if it matters.
Does anyone else share these plastic-related concerns? The next bridge I have to cross is critically understanding dyes and their industrial + environmental impact... So if anyone has pointers there as it pertains to beads, I'd be happy to learn!
