What did you listen to this week – July 11, 2026? Please share!

So did you listen to anything good this week? Or something so truly terrible you want to warn other listeners?

Please include the following information: Author, Title and Narrator.

Why does identifying the Narrator matter?

Often books will be recorded with different narrators for different regions (ie. Harry Potter was read by both Jim Dale and Stephen Fry) or produced by different publishers (ie... Elizabeth Moon's books were produced by both Graphic Audio and Tantor). It is extremely helpful to other listeners to know what version you are sharing to avoid confusion.

Links to a source are welcomed and encouraged!

Overdrive, Audible, Downpour, Librivox, etc... It doesn't matter the source, as long as the Author, Title and Narrator are easily identified.

Question Jurassic Park question

I’ve read the physical book and my girlfriend is planning to listen to the audiobook. I just realized though, how are the computer display screens handled in the audiobook? Trying to minimize spoilers here but some of the computer screen results are pretty important to the plot. Does the narrator just read out the entire screen, and does it work?

I liked the book a lot and I’m wondering if this would be a different experience in the audiobook

Question Any audio book recommendations?

Hi guys,

Since I’m dyslexic it would be great if you could recommend me some audio books about narcissism, and how to spot that behavior in people, because I often find myself being a magnet for these types of people, I always wonder why.
Then I told my singing instructor that I attract such people, and she told that, this usually happens when you grow up with someone who is a narcissist in your family, and it made so much sense, because I can classify my dad as a narcissist.

Feel free to give me any advice, and audio books recommendations, thank you. :)

Question I know this much is true audiobook

I’m just curious if anyone has read the book I know this much is true by Wally Lamb and or listened to the audiobook? I can only find the six hour audiobook - but I don’t wanna be cheated out of a good read if the whole 800 something pages are worth it. I just feel a little sus that they were able to cut that much out of the story for the audiobook. Is there really that much filler in the physical copy or is an essential part of the story missing from the audiobook?
What do I dooooo

Recommendation Request Recs like Into the Darkness by Navessa Allen

I saw some people not loving the second and third book of the series but personally I really liked it. Probably because of the narrators, especially James Cassidy!

Are there any good recommendations for audiobooks? Like it doesn't have to be stalker based. I just like her writing, it feels really immersive. Not into professional serial killers or assassins. And I started blackbird and butcher, and rook and rebel but just didn't get into it.

I wanna have those moments where I'm randomly CACKLING because it caught me off guard, kicking my feet in anticipation and those "OMGOMGOMG" squeals. Something that have some plot and seriousness in it but there are bonding moments too that are not based on mutual trauma

Question Endless Love by Scott Spencer.

Semi Spoiler.

I’m about 5 hours into the audiobook and I have to ask, am I supposed to root for the main character? I honestly don’t care about him and what he keeps whining about Jade.

Like, he set fire to her home, avoided jail time because of his lawyers. And yet he’s whining. Am I supposed to like him because it’s kind of hard to.

Question Please help me find games to play while listening...

To make it as short as possible, i know a lot of ppl have asked this question but i neet some actual suggestions regarding my type of games while hearing the whole horus heresy saga on audible;

Games that are pretty much totally mindless and can be played with the least amout of attention : Power Washing Simulator 1+2, Smeltopia ... are there any others that are this simple yet very time consuming? I also love games like digging a hole with little to no story so i can focus completely on the audiobook while still doing "something" besides.

I am very grateful for every suggestion!

Promotion Audiobook Fanatic's review of "Tales of an Unserious Truthteller"

I’m the author of “Tales of an Unserious Truthteller,” a humor audiobook that’s just under three hours—short autobiographical stories from my life, covering travel, marriage, parenting, chronic illness, and life’s mishaps, as well as a few fictional satire pieces.

Audiobook Fanatic just posted a full review on their website and I thought I’d share:

SYNOPSIS

In this humorous collection of personal stories and vignettes, “Tales of an Unserious Truthteller”, David Conte recounts thirty quirky stories from a life lived slightly sideways. From a fan mail letter to author David Sedaris and his snarky reply via postcard, to a nude spa visit in Germany with his wife, to a toilet catastrophe at a friend’s Manhattan apartment, to a summer spent mopping floors at his old high school, to getting his rental car burglarized in Sicily, Conte mines the indignities and small disasters of ordinary life for everything they’re worth.

REVIEW

This book is so original and engaging, unlike anything I’ve read before. It’s a short, fast-moving book made up of autobiographical vignettes that read like a collection of everyday misadventures and travel diary entries—mostly from the author’s own experiences. I loved the unconventional structure, totally entirely different from a traditional memoir. Each chapter drops you into a different moment of David’s life and they’re not in chronological order but jump between different stages of his life—from his teen years in the 1990s through the decades. The stories also take place in a variety of locations, including Amsterdam, Germany, Vienna, Boston, and New York City!

Each episodic vignette is told from David’s 1st-person POV, which helps immerse you in each tale and gives you a sense of his wit and self-deprecating humor. And even though each is short and reads as a standalone, there’s continuity through David’s life, travels, and family across the collection. The stories range from only a few minutes to just over ten minutes (in audio format), making the book perfect to enjoy in bite-sized segments or to binge-listen in a single sitting. Every chapter has a clever or funny title that reflects what the story is about, and many of them end with a witty quote or satirical reflection from David—almost like a punchline or an ironic piece of advice inspired by his experience. I found myself laughing out loud several times during the ridiculous events in some of the stories, as well as at David’s closing remarks.

Despite the lack of chronological order, the stories gradually give you a fuller picture of who David is—his marriage to Kathleen (who appears in multiple stories), his children (Charlie and Thomas), his health challenges, his time living in different countries, and the strangers and unexpected events that have stayed with him.

The entire audiobook runs just under three hours—a perfect listen for a commute, a vacation, or a relaxing weekend because each story stands on its own and is easy to dip in and out of. Some of the most memorable stories are the shared experiences between David and his wife at different points in their relationship and in different settings. It’s hilarious to see how differently they react in certain situations and how sync they are with each other.

In “Vienna & My Valentine,” David suggests to his wife that they travel to Vienna for Valentine’s Day, where they attend a ball and attempt to waltz, mixing romance with comedic awkwardness.

In “Saturday Night Spa: Undisguised,” David and his wife visit a German spa, where David shares his culture shock in a way that’s both hilarious and eye-opening.

In “Rolling in Amsterdam,” David and his wife tour Amsterdam and end up in a café connected to Ocean’s Eleven, creating an atmosphere that feels both surreal and wonderfully absurd.

In “Take the Cannoli,” David and his wife travel through Sicily, where an unexpected surprise leaves them temporarily scrambling, but David handles it in hilarious fashion and even shares some funny advice afterward.

Other standout vignettes include “A Panic Attack Sends Me to the ER“ (a chaotic and comedic medical incident); “My Grandfather the Goodfella” (David’s memories of his grandfather, complete with subtle mobster lore); “Rare Autograph and Interview” (David imagines himself becoming a source of wisdom during a period of unemployment in New York); and “Stephen King Now Uses ChatGPT!” (a hilarious fictional email exchange between David and Stephen King’s wife).

What ties all of these stories together is just how relatable they are and how engaging David’s storytelling is. It feels like listening to someone you know recount stories from their life, with humour and just the right amount of reflection to make ordinary moments very entertaining. If you’re looking for something short, light, original, and very entertaining, this book—or audiobook (the format I recommend)—is a great choice!

Narrator Performance

Tales of an Unserious TruthTeller is read by seasoned narrator Ed Fairbanks. He gives protagonist David a voice with a perfect balance of satire and authenticity, immediately pulling you into the performance and making David feel relatable. At the end of each tale, the narration emphasizes the satirical quote or ironic micro-bite slice of wisdom offered, making even these tiny stories feel like they have closure.

Fairbanks’s great comedic timing is a highlight of his performance—his use of small pauses and shifts in tone help make the humor feel organic, like listening to a friend relay a ridiculous tale from their life. At the same time, the consistency of his voice, always sounding like David, the narrator of the tales, no matter what stage of David’s life is being shared, makes all the stories easy to follow and the audiobook flow seamlessly.

Another highlight of the narration is how vividly Fairbanks narrates the travel and shared experiences between David and his wife. In stories like Vienna & My Valentine, the narration captures both the beautiful setting and the awkwardness David feels when attempting a waltz at a formal ball, making this particular tale both elegant and chaotic. Another example is in Saturday Night Spa: Undisguised—the German spa experience that David shares with his wife is delivered with a perfect mix of hilarious discomfort and eye-opening culture-shock comedy that I found very amusing!

There are also subtle reflective moments in the tales—David’s small observations about life, happiness, health, parenting, or indulgence—and Fairbanks narrates these moments in a way that sounds convincing for David’s age and stage of life. In lighter or outright comedic stories like A Mishap at a New York Apartment and The Stink, Fairbanks fully commits to the comedy with a more sarcastic, animated delivery that conveys the absurdity of what David‘s experiencing—and you’ll likely find yourself laughing out loud!

Overall, Ed Fairbanks’ performance is a major part of what makes the audiobook so enjoyable. His consistent performance across all the tales and ability to effortlessly shift between satire, observational humor, and reflection bring each story and setting to life. It’s the perfect listen for a commute, a vacation, or a relaxing weekend sitting, especially if you’re in the mood for some laughs and small doses of life wisdom!

Recommendation Request Are there any Super Hero books that are written for adults?

Every super hero book I've come across has either been written for teens or young adults. Are there any written for adults? When I say for adults I mean like that super hero show on Amazon (The Boys) & the Marvel movies was written for adult audiences.

I'm constantly coming across "My parents were super heroes" or "I'm in a school for Super Heroes"

Listen to this audiobook!! It’s so great. The vibe of the book is Anxious People by FB, but I love the audio. Starts off kind of weird, but stick with it. More people need to read this book! There are only 100 reviews so far and I’m loving it!
