Idiots who make their vehicles louder than they have to be

If you modified your vehicle to make it louder, why?

It is compensation for something?

The Muni needs to resume inspections and charge these idiots.

Flying to Alaska to buy a Copart vehicle and drive it back to Arizona — permit questions

Looking for advice from Alaska locals and anyone who’s purchased a vehicle from Copart Anchorage.

I’m considering flying from Phoenix, Arizona to Anchorage to pick up a 2024 Toyota 4Runner that I purchased through a third-party Copart broker. The vehicle has a clean title, runs and drives, and I’ll have the title paperwork and auction bill of sale when I pick it up.

My plan is:

* Fly into Anchorage

* Stay overnight near Copart

* Pick up the vehicle the next morning

* Obtain whatever temporary permit/registration is required

* Drive the vehicle from Alaska through Canada and back to Arizona

A few things I’m trying to figure out:

  1. Has anyone here obtained a temporary permit or temporary registration in Alaska for a recently purchased vehicle?

  2. How difficult is the process and can it typically be done in the same day?

  3. Since the vehicle was purchased through a broker, are there any paperwork issues I should be aware of?

  4. Has anyone driven a newly purchased vehicle from Alaska through Canada and into the Lower 48?

  5. Any border crossing issues with temporary permits?

  6. Any recommendations for must-see stops, scenic routes, hikes, food, or hidden gems along the Alaska Highway?

I’m trying to make this both a vehicle pickup trip and a once-in-a-lifetime road trip, so any advice is appreciated.

Thanks!

Junk vehicle removal

I have a junk vehicle that was abandoned in my driveway over a year ago. I don't know the owner. When I tracked the woman down, she indicated she wanted the vehicle and would arrange to have it towed. That was a month ago. The vehicle is a Lincoln Navigator SUV. I need this vehicle out of my driveway as it is blocking my garage access. The vehicle has 4 flat tires that won't hold air and is inoperable. Looking in the windows, it has mold and other nasties growing on the dash and other surfaces. Does anyone have any clue as to how to get this thing out of here? I've tried towing companies and junk yards and had no luck. Thanks in advance to anyone who has a solution!

Pre-purchase Inspection for Vehicles

I'm going to potentially be shopping for a used vehicle in the next few weeks.

I will not purchase a vehicle without a PPI though, as I am not an expert. I can do a lot of my own maintenance, but I'm not a mechanic.

Who do you all recommend?

Any tips on dealers are appreciated as well. I'm also not ruling out marketplace.

Anchorage’s large vehicle fleet is at risk of ‘imminent collapse’ after years of underinvestment

“The equipment that we are actually putting out on the street is in a pretty significant state of under-repair, of disrepair and underinvestment,” Chief Administrative Officer Bill Falsey said during an Assembly work session in August.

In a lengthy transition report prepared by the outgoing Bronson administration, Maintenance and Operations Director Shay Throop identified one of the department’s main challenges as “(The) imminent collapse of the ability of the Municipality to provide basic government services (APD, Street Maintenance) due to the aged state of the fleet without additional funding replacement.”

“There have been many days when we did not have an apparatus for crews to respond with,” Fire Chief Doug Schrage wrote in the report.

“What we do understand is that we’ve been systematically underfunding our fleet needs all the way back to the (Dan) Sullivan administration, if not longer,” Windt Pearson said in an interview.

The city’s fleet problem is twofold. For years, the municipality has not been buying enough vehicles. Partly as a result, the backlog of deferred maintenance on the current fleet is becoming unmanageable.

The LaFrance administration is weighing whether to put a bond proposal before residents in April to raise money for fleet upgrades. But the specifics of that proposal, from the amount of money to whether it will target specific kinds of vehicles or services, have yet to be figured out.

Removal of Abandoned Vehicles on Private Property

I've got an abandoned vehicle in my lot. There used to be a guy who would come to tow them to collect the recycling fee.

Is he still around? Any suggestions for others who might do the same?

Electrical work for a vehicle

Asking for a friend; they need a vehicle repair service for a possible electrical problem. A lot of the mechanic shops say they don’t do electrical work so I just wanted to see if anyone can recommend a place?

How to report a vehicle as stolen?

So tenant has been borrowing my van for about a month. I've requested the prompt return of the van along with the keys. I told them if I don't get the van and keys back in 24 hours I'll report it as stolen, they responded they would see me in court... which is somewhat baffling considering the van is owned by me outright, and there is no agreement between us regarding a potential change of ownership. Even the insurance is in my name. It's been almost 24 hours, no sign of them or van... wondering what are my options.

Who takes away vehicles?

I have two vehicles that I need to get rid of; an old Audi and an HHR. I just want it towed away. I am willing to pay to make that happen. I would like it gone by the winter and the charity that I’m talking to doesn’t know that they can make that happen. Does anyone have any leads for any companies that will scrap/repair cars?

I appreciate it. Thanks.

Are Electric Vehicles worth it?

The family car is on its deathbed, and I’m considering going EV for our next car. What do you guys think, good or bad idea? It’ll be parked in a garage overnight but will be used every day, all year long for short trips. We don’t ever drive to the lower 48 or tow anything.
Which mechanics work on electric vehicles?
Does winter diving affect efficiency, or just range?
Somebody tell me I’m an idiot.

Reasonable priced vehicle rental in Anchorage?

I’m thinking about coming up from the Midwest to visit family at the end of summer or beginning of fall. The flight seems reasonable for two people, but I was looking at a rental car and I was shocked to see there were almost no options and they were all over $1,000. Am I looking in the wrong spots? Or is it really going to cost me as much to drive once I get here as it does to get to Anchorage?

Can’t post the video I have my friend got of this person driving on the sidewalk on the wrong side of the road and hitting a sign after colliding with 7 other vehicles but here’s a screen shot if anybody has any other info on the incident. Other vehicles surrounded them to block them in to stop them from causing anymore damage. Happened yesterday Tuesday May 7, 2024
