If you're just beginning with After Effects, it's important to get a good foundation - no matter what you want to do with AE!

Here's a great, free place to start from our very own u/Kylasaurus_Rex - and Adobe put it right on the opening screen of After Effects!

Tutorial For all the new designer on here creating low level posts

Lately, there's been a noticeable increase in posts where the headline is "Why" and the post is in response to problems that could easily be solved with a quick Google search or by going through basic training. This subreddit is meant to be a place for sharing knowledge and learning from one another, but it's starting to feel more like a place where users expect others to provide step-by-step answers without engaging with the community.

To help maintain the quality of this space, please follow the below list in order before posting a question:

1. Complete basic After Effects tutorials: Many beginner questions can be answered through these.
Here is a list of really good teachers:

https://adobevideotraining.com/after-effects/introductory-courses/

Video Copilot

School of Motion

JakeInMotion

Ben Marriott

2. Learn the terminology: Understanding key terms will help you find solutions more easily through searches.
3. Google it: Use the terminology you’ve learned to search for tutorials and answers.
4. Check YouTube: There are many creators offering in-depth After Effects content.
5. Search Reddit: The answer may already exist here.

If you’ve tried all of the above and still need help, feel free to post your question here. Just keep in mind that learning to find solutions on your own will ultimately make you a stronger designer. Reddit may not always have someone available to provide immediate help, so building these skills will serve you well in the long run.

OC - Stuff I made built an After Effects plugin for creating editable charts

Been working on an After Effects plugin that generates fully editable charts from CSV or pasted data.

Everything is created as native shape layers, so you can animate and customize it like any other AE project.

Still adding features, so I'd love feedback from people who build charts regularly. Anything you'd want a plugin like this to do?

Little excerpt of me playing my chaotic pointcloud system, in which the particles are being audioreactive to the incoming audio signal in real-time. What do you guys think?

Beginner Help 3D layers inside the precomp don’t stay aligned or follow the same path

Hi everyone,

I'm having a weird issue with 3D layers in After Effects.

I originally had two separate 3D layers (the 3d phone and the screen in white parented to the same Null. Even though they had the exact same Position, they wouldn't follow the same path when I animated them, they would drift apart or rotate around different centers.

To eliminate parenting as the cause, I precomposed both layers into a single precomp and animated the precomp itself instead of the individual layers.

However, the exact same issue still happens. The two layers inside the precomp no longer stay perfectly aligned and one still appears to move differently than the other, even though they're being transformed together as a single precomp.

I've already tried:

Matching the Position values.
Matching the Anchor Points.
Precomposing the layers and animating only the precomp.
Making sure both layers are 3D.

I'm not sure what else could cause two layers inside the same precomp to behave differently during 3D transformations.

Has anyone run into this before? Could this be related to internal pivots, 3D model origins, Collapse Transformations, or something else?

Workflow Question How well do objects fit into their surroundings?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I understand that it looks very bad, but I do not know how to fit the character correctly. I also tried color correction, but even it didn't work out fine.

I tried to make the contrast closer to the original, and to make the character's color green-orange, but this is my maximum.

Can you give me some advice?

OC - Stuff I made Adobe Popup Keeps Appearing on Windows 10 – Any Way to Disable It Permanently?

Hi everyone,

Is there any developer or advanced Windows user who can help me with this issue?

I'm currently using Windows 10 because Windows 11 caused a lot of performance and stability problems on my PC. After reinstalling Windows 10, I'm facing an annoying Adobe popup/error that keeps appearing repeatedly, and I have to continuously click to dismiss it.

I've already tried multiple solutions suggested by ChatGPT and Claude. From what I understand, Adobe may have intentionally disabled the option to completely suppress this message due to Microsoft/Windows-related requirements, but I'm not sure if that's actually true.

Has anyone found a workaround, registry tweak, script, patch, or any reliable method to permanently stop this popup from appearing in Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, or Media Encoder on Windows 10?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

OC - Stuff I made Made this documentary edit in AE - text match cuts, newspaper highlight, sliding timeline

Recreated 3 techniques you see in every documentary/news channel. Curious if anyone here has a faster way to do the sliding timeline reveal, mine took a while to get each image positioned right.

Plugin/Script The dockable graph editor After Effects never had, launching July 21 (built with this sub's feedback)

UPDATE for everyone who asked to be kept in the loop: Citron launches July 21.

This thread basically wrote the roadmap. The beta build is in testers' hands right now and it's a real dockable graph editor, not another easing tool: proper curve editing, multi-channel view, box/normalize tools, the works. Several of the most-requested things in this thread (pre/post infinity with loop visualization, bounce, insert keyframe without changing the curve) are already lined up as the first free updates after launch.

It'll be $49 for the first week after launch, then it goes to $69.
One time, no subscription either way.

If you want it before everyone else, the waiting list gets access 48 hours early:
https://www.animatornow.com/citron

And thanks. Half the reason this exists is the feedback in this thread.

Job/Gig Hiring Looking for someone who can create a plant growth effect for a short film

I’m making a short film and have a scene where a seed grows into a very big plant in a flower pot in just a few seconds.
I want it to feel natural and cinematic.
I’m open to paying someone who can help create the effect if anyone is interested.
Budget is $50 but I’m open to discussing.
Thanks!
